Questions about Decision Making and Macro Play

Okay I only started to play League of Legends during the middle of Season 6, so perhaps my train of thought is incorrect since my teammates usually seem to think so. I would like some confirmation though because I cannot see the logic in their arguments. I will list three scenarios, and I would like to be told whether I am correct, or incorrect.

Scenario #1 I am with an Alistar support against a Mundo and Twitch (as Jhin). We lose our first all in exchange, and as a result, the Twitch gets a CS lead, lane priority, and First Blood. As a result, I then decide to simply play safe, poke with my 4th shot, and be ready for any jungle gank follow ups. My Alistar however, decides to pick a fight at every opportunity by jumping at the Twitch, at which point the Mundo simply face plants me and chucks cleaver after cleaver, forcing me to be zoned away (at least in my opinion, the Alistar thinks I should have continued fighting even when I was being focused by both the Twitch and the Mundo, and sitting in Twitch's AoE slow). So of course, the Alistar dies. Should I have just continued the fight to the end when the Alistar engaged?

Scenario #2 My team's mid lane inhibitor is down, and I am wave clearing to prevent the super minions from reaching the Nexus turrets. My team however, decides to try to force a pick at the enemy outer turret. I see the rest of the enemy team rotate to the top lane for a collapse, so I ping them to get out. Like, alot. I would probably get some sort of "too many pings" warning for how much I pinged. They stay, get nothing, and die. The response? "Why were you not fighting with us?" Should I have ignored the pushing waves and moved with my team (we had a large gold deficit by the way).

Scenario #3 I am playing Thresh with a Lucian against a Blitzcrank and Jhin. I believe Blitzcrank has the stronger match up here (particularly due to his passive shield), so I abuse my range to harass, and look for a potential hook onto the AD carry. Before that, the Lucian gets caught and killed in lane, after already burning summoner spells due to a jungle invade. The response? "Why are you playing Thresh if you aren't going to hook, if we fight we chunk them." That's funny, considering they have the gold lead, CS lead, and stronger support match up, I can't help but feel like they would win a 2v2. Am I wrong here?

If I am generally correct in my decision making....why do my teammates usually think otherwise (usually being like 3-4 of them 90% of the time)?

I appreciate any and all feedbacks to clarify my gameplay decisions.

You sound like you play extremely passive and defensive. Sitting back and waiting for things to happen isnt going to get you ahead or win games when you're so damn passive.

1 - if you got killed first and behind you have to be more passive and not all in sure. Either way forget the support and just focus the ADC first. If their ADC backs off it leaves u 2v1 against their mundo but from you just bailing right away it makes it 2v1 for them which is an auto loss every single time

2 - If the supers are smashing your nexus turrets then sure go back and take them out, but if your entire team is strong enough to able to push up and threaten their base then theres no reason for you to be sitting at base unless youre directly at risk of supers killing the nexus.

3 - Thresh does more damage than blitz and has more poke. Both those supports are stalled by minion cover so you need to be the pushing side to kill their minions while retaining your minion cover, and with your range to harass behind a minion line plus shields on ally your side should win. You're just too damn passive, too scared of blitz and dont know what your champ is capable of

He makes good points. I won't say he is right, because the way you word your scenarios you should play passively. But I wasn't going to sit here and reaffirm that you make no mistakes. So I think it is great that he takes the time to show you options where you could improve.

And maybe he thinks these are always the best. I'm not sure. But it is good.

Sometimes being right or wrong doesn't matter.

I want to know to improve as quickly as possible. Mechanics is something you can really only gain over time, whereas making decisions is an improvement that one can make by simply deciding to do so; as a result, I at least want to be able to make good choices in game, even if my mechanics are not up to par of where I want to be.

Winning 2v2s in bot lane is all about abusing positioning and cooldowns. If the support is much further forward or way behind their ADC then it can be advantageous to engage because its effectively a 2v1 for a couple seconds (though its usually better to back off after those few seconds of trading.) Likewise, abusing cooldowns is a great way to trade and come out ahead. If blitz misses his pull then you should be aggressive while its on cooldown. If Jhin uses his 4th shot on a minion you can engage while he reloads. If Lucian is low on mana or uses his spells on the minion wave then you can abuse his cooldowns/mana usage. Another thing you really have to consider are the minion waves, especially in the early levels. If you draw minion aggro that can be several hundred extra damage dealt to you which can be the difference between winning the fight and losing it. Scenario 1 & 3 kind of fall into a gray area. Its not wrong to play it safe by any means but there are ways you could play aggressive in those situations. If it is your intention to play passive then make sure to communicate that with your lane partner.

Situation 2 seems pretty clear cut that your team was in the wrong. The correct play is always to push out the lane with a downed inhibitor before rotating to a different objective. The only time I can think of that you wouldn't do this is if you were trying to stop the enemy team from doing baron/elder drake.

for 2 OP didnt mention where the supers were, just that he didnt want supers from reaching the nexus turrets. for all we know supers could have been at mid river while his team was pushing top and he goes to farm them which is him in the wrong

you are doing wrong in all 3 scenarios.

scenario 1: 1st of all you should never lose lane vs mundo support.he is usless and he can be ignored and kited easy.2nd if ali engage on twithc just ignore mundo and blow twitch up.in worst case scenario you will get kill and mundo will get kill on you after you killed twitch

scenario 2:if only mid inhib is taken you should push mid as team or if other teamates are pushing somwhere else then person with teleport should cover superminions lane.as adc you should be with team in 90% cases since ur most important caracter in team

scenario 3:im not really good at botlane but in my opinion this is kill lane.and whoever gonna hook someone 1st gonna get kill.so there is no reason to stay defensive.you should allways look to hook enemy adc and if you do you should atleast get 1 for 1 in worst case.ofc if enemy bot has lead and you hook blitz you gonna lose but if you hook enemy adc you should get 1 for 1 in worst case

Even if the hook was landed on the blitz then the ADC is free to poke without the threat of being CCed by blitz for a short time so it's still a win in damage trade. But yes, whoever is the more aggressive side wins bc of minions in the way

Thank you for the replies. The general consensus seems to be that I am playing "to not lose" rather than "to win". I will try to be more aggressive.

To clear up some misunderstandings:

In scenario 1, I follow up the engages with a deadly flourish, but then take alot of damage trying to reach the twitch due to being slowed while twitch kites back (Alistar is chasing, and Mundo is getting off damage/cleavers on me as I follow). Eventually I decide to pull back as my health drops low and Twitch has several stacks on me.

In scenario 2, supers are at around inhibitor turret area.

In scenario 3, I don't know if I am bad or what but the Blitz landed more hooks on the Lucian than I would on the Jhin. The ones I landed, we lost those fights.
