Role Selection Choices for Ranked

I am a relatively new player to the League (albeit not MOBA) who joined in the middle of Season 6. I played placements during pre-season and achieved Silver II playing exclusively Janna, Nami, and Soraka.

I believe I have improved much since then, but I wish to place at least where I was before if not higher due to having less time to play matches than I did before. I have three roles that I am conflicted about, which I shall now explain so that those who choose to reply have as much information as I can provide.

TOP

  1. This is the role that I carry the hardest with
  2. My champion pool consists of Pantheon, Darius, Malphite, and Maokai (not good enough yet with Shen to even try ranked with him). Maokai of course, however, had a rework, and of my champion pool, Pantheon is the only champion that I know well enough that I can consistently carry with even against unfavorable match-ups (except Cho'Gath...screw that guy).
  3. When I am losing my lane, I generally feed around 1-3 kills and my opponent gets a sizeable CS lead. Having said that, due to being practiced on the first four champions, I now only do that with Shen, whom I am learning.
  4. I take teleport on all the above mentioned champions with the exception of Pantheon (unless I do not think I can kill my opponent), and refrain from spamming teleport simply to return to lane unless I am forced to catch a sizeable wave.

ADC

  1. This is the role that I have the most fun with
  2. My champion pool consists of Jhin, Miss Fortune, Ashe, and Caitlyn
  3. I consider this my weakest role of the three I will list, due to the fact that I find myself unable to out-duel solo laners and because I seem to have rather minimal impact unless my team and I are on the same page (I.E. I am unable to get solo kills like when I play Top, or make plays/picks like when I am Support, unless I am Ashe).

SUPPORT

  1. This is the role that I have the most CONSISTENCY with. By that I mean that I can reliably land my skill shots (ex. hooks, Nami bubbles, Kench stacks,), and know what I can do to improve my team's chances of winning throughout all stages of the game.
  2. My champion pool with this role is the largest: I play Thresh, Blitzcrank, Janna, Nami, Soraka, Tahm Kench, and Karma. I can also play all of them to what I consider to be an acceptable level (as opposed to my Top Lane pool), though some may be better than others (strangely I have a better time with Thresh than Blitzcrank).
  3. Although I have been performing well on Thresh and Karma, I aim to get much more practice on these two, as I consider them my first two picks of choice (depending on my ADC) if I decide to play ranked as Support.
  4. I would probably choose Support myself, if it was not for the fact that I feel so completely useless when I fail to snowball the bot lane (be it due to relatively equal trades or because I am playing something more passive) and my other two lanes are doing terribly. It just does not feel good to feel like you have such...little influence because of matters outside of your control (as an example, when I play Pantheon, even if another lane feeds like mad I can still keep my team in the game and help them catch up).

So based on this information, which Roles should I go with as my Primary and Secondary? Furthermore, what type of champions would probably be best for those roles you picked (ex. for Top, assassins, split pushers, fighters, tanks, etc.)? Should I have a larger and flexible champion pool that I can play decently, or just one or two that I know in and out?

I am only really aiming to get into Gold. After that, I do not mind taking my time to climb.

For those that reply, I sincerely thank you beforehand for helping me improve as a player.

It sounds to me like you should go supp/top. You can snowball other lanes if bot lane fails too, just roam mid to make a play or help your jungler counter jungle the enemy. If you want to get gold fast I suggest this, since consistency will be your greatest ally especially if you will have less time to play. Karma/Nami are very meta right now so they would help you most from what you've mentioned but thresh is also very good in general to play.

For top, carry laners are great but if you lose lane and do horribly there is little to offer your team later on. Another reason why you taking the time to learn shen is a great idea because a good shen ult changes games.
