Questions About Ranked

Hello community,

I am new to boards, so I apologize in advance if I posted in the wrong place.

I am a guy who began League a few months ago, albeit with some other MOBA experience. I just finished my placements and ended up in Silver II (suddenly kind of regretting duo'ing with my Silver 5 jungler friend for so many of those).

I have researched to the best of my ability, but cannot reach a conclusive answer. My question is: can you climb decently solo at my current ELO with support? For some reference, I play Soraka, Janna, and Nami in ranked (looking to learn Blitz and a tanky support to round my pool out).

I duo'ed with some gold ADC's before and according to them I did a decent job. But then there are those games where as Janna I am supporting a Jinx that cannot evade Lux snares for her life and refuses to go back when low on HP.

I play a decent Pantheon, so depending on you guys' feedback I might switch to Top/Jungle until Gold.

Thanks

Yes you can. I'm a support main and have taken many of my bronze smurfs from bronze to diamond fairly easily. Unranked to diamond is even easier. Then again I'm playing mainly thresh and he has higher carry potential so maybe switch up your playstyle if you're having trouble climbing to a more aggro, carry based support instead of a protection style.

Play thresh. He's busted. Over my 4 diamond accounts i have a 68% winrate in like 600 games. he's busted.

I would say yes. It may be painful at times, but with patience it should be fairly easy. Janna and Blitz are very good picks for dealing with the enemy team's and your own team's mispositioning, which is common in silver.

not a support. (play mid/adc)

but in a way active supports are nice. talking about binding ,snare just cc or 1 that can defend a carry. so not just heal shield and stay in the back kinda of champions there still good but this gives more change to help.

kinda for all roles. but try to ping or call objecives towers splits push mark tarkets in team fights. not every player is good at it but it can help allot. you wil have bad calls and your team will flame for it but your try to think about the whole team.

You can definitely rise in the ranks but at the moment junglers have a really high impact on the game.

i'm a sup main and it is certainly possible to climb but it can be painful. i'd recommend learning sona and braum. sona may be another ap but she does more damage compared to most other traditional supports and has heal and speed boost. braum is just a nice solid tank

Supports are my least favorite types of champions to play against in the game right now. If you can get an ADC player that just plays to win and will focus on getting strong then your job becomes so much easier. TBH I don't think it is hard to win as support you just need to get good at it. Support is a lot about macro play, so watch challenger support replays to see what they do around the map to improve your own macro. And of course, if you can win your lane you will win much more of your games. Don't give up what you have the most fun with if you are good enough to win with it.

Some supports are easier to climb with. Janna is like, the worst option. Good playmakers are better when you can't trust your adc to be decent enough. You don't need to be dealing all the damage, but setting up plays for the rest of the team, or making saves does wonders. Tahm, Leona, and Thresh are my suggestions for playmaking tanks.

Thank you all for the replies. From what I can garner, the more aggressive supports appear to be more favorable for climbing from low ELO, while the more passive ones are not?

I actually considered them, but:

Thresh's skill cap is beyond me I highly dislike Leona's "IM GOIN IN DEEP" style Blitzcrank I am learning and I am planning to play him, but he is frequently banned

I will look into Tahm Kench.

Support is good. We need more support players, don't change mains! Maybe just switch up the supports you use. If you like utility supports, it may be best for you to hold off on using them till around high gold/low plat Elo, because most adcs are pretty boosted. Tbh, even high gold - low plat is bad. I'd say mid - high plat and up is best to switch over to heavy utility supports.

Other than that, going with carry supports are a good option until then.
