"Locket seemed like an overused, mandatory item on supports, so we changed it"
hahahahahaha
hahahahahaha
Then: Do you play against strong ap champions? Yes: buy locket. No: buy something else. Now: Do you play lol? Yes: Buy locket. No: buy locket.
Now: Do you play lol? Yes: Buy locket. No: buy locket.
I laughed more than I should have.
the main purpose was to remove invisble power and add visible power, which they suceeded in doing.
Yeah, I was about to mention this. They reworked Locket because it gave free stats when only a single person built it. The aura effect is the main reason they didn't like its interaction with teams.
I actually didn't like the aura that much, I built locket because it was one of the best MR+HP items in game for a support. Now, I almost never build it, because there really are better options until you hit late game (and even then there are often better options unless the enemy team is mediocre at both dealing damage and tanking).
90% of it being overemphasis on the shield now really hurts CDR and health for most of my support builds too, it sucks :/

Are you kidding me every support item has CDR of some kind.
locket doesn't

Locket used to, though
That said, it isn't like it is not easy to stack CDR as a support. Even if you find it difficult, runes DO exist.
It's easy to stack CDR, but most of the support items are tethered to a UNIQUE PASSIVE: +10% Shield/Heal Strength.

Is this an unique NAMED passive?
If not, then you shouldn't worry, as they all come from different items, so they stack (they wouldn't stack if they came from the same item).
Unless you are using a support without shields or heals such as Leona.
I don't know what your talking about. Leona has a big ass shield. She bashed my face in with it yesterday.

Unless you have a full CDR page (which some people do for supports), it's actually a whole hell of a lot easier on a mage (seriously, it's hard for them to not get 40% CDR), or assassin (who really don't need it as much as they think they do).
ADC's get 30% from 1 item.
Decent options for the remaining 10%.

Why is CDR even a thing at this point?
Sightstone has CDR
Item Active Ability CDR, not spell CDR.
?
"Eye of . . ."
"Sightstone"
"Ruby Sightstone"
that is extremely nitpicky.
They are often collectively referred to as sightstones because that is what the base item is and they all share the same general function.
When someone asks you to "build a sightstone" as a support, it's okay to build an "eye of" item even if it doesn't have Sightstone in the name.
But there is no CDR in the Sightstone part. You wouldn't say "you need more health, get a
" because the

. Both
and
give CDR themselves, and the respective Eyes inherit that CDR.
And Enchantresses have many options to get CDR (
), while tanky supports don't:
or

,
,
all no CDR, many other tank items don't give CDR as well.

Adding another mandatory item doesn't make Locket not mandatory.
Adding another mandatory item doesn't make Locket not mandatory.
Standard conversation between the jungler and support while waiting to do a Red leash to start the game, even when the other side is AD heavy:
: "Oh cool, so you are a Zilean support, huh? I assume you are going to be building locket. Right?"
: "..."
It no longer has aura and has armour now. I bought it on Soraka to counter Riven late game
This is the tragic truth of low income support itemization. The moment there is an item that is cost effective, it becomes mandatory on supports and abused by other roles. Until there is a system that prevents high income roles from getting low income items, support items will always be terrible or abused.
hahahahahaha
its still mandatory lmao. the shield is so strong. redemeption is even more mandatory
I've got a good record so far this season as a support. I build neither of those.
Definately not mandatory.
Agreed, Locket is only broken later in the game, and Redemption is only practical on supports who actually have heals (yes, the other bits are good, but it's not gold efficient if you don't have heals).
The active is what makes Redemption so strong. Not the stats.

Redemption is also gold efficient on shielding champs too - which includes those tank supports which have built Face of the Mountain by the time they grabbed the Redemption.
Point taken, although I see more support tanks build EotE than FotM on Rift.

That's the point
??
New locket sucks. Redemption is its replacement.
If its over used and mandatory, it might as well be good at what it does. But I think it should be nerfed a bit, maybe remove 25 to 50 shield amount.
I honestly don't feel it's a must buy every game. I'd rather give my champion more stats so I can stay alive longer and do what my champion is supposed to do longer sometimes.

Interesting how no one brought up Knight's Vow
or Zeke's Harbinger
- two often forgotten support items. Knight's Vow was opined by some to be OP when it first came out, yet I don't see it used very often. Plus I find it works quite well on tanky supports who have good health regen.
As for Zeke's Harb, I've found it handy on mage poke supports. I admit though that Zeke's a bit underwhelming when your other slots are filled with
,
and/or
). Perhaps Riot still needs to think about how to give items to supports that are not limited to just the early-to-middle game.
Knight's vow is amazing! I love it but I feel like I shouldn't be picking it up on my squishy little utility supports. Zeke's feels so situational and it's active(kinda active?) feels like it's used on minions more than enemies.
Knight's Vow seems a bit too good, but it's way overshadowed by the Locket/Redemption thing. Knight's Vow gives an ADC 12% more HP, which honestly seems pretty crazy - but then that's nothing compared to the 20-30% HP shield plus another 20-30% heal that the other two items give.
That and it's only good on melee supports - ranged supports get half the benefit.
I personally never liked Zeke's much. It builds up too slowly and the window of power is pretty small, at least IMO - I prefer being able to capitalize on an opponent's small mistake or mispositioning rather than having to wait for the Zeke's proc and then brute force engaging. I suppose it can be good paired with Twitch who can just go in and kill stuff whenever he wants, though.
it is really good... but it isn't the best for protecting the ADC... it increase the durability of the ADC by 12% however
/
usually offers more protection (and they are AoE so they can offer protection to the entire team not only one player)
however is pretty good at keeping the support alive as long as the ADC is dealing damage to enemy champions
Vow is incredibly strong. It's also invisible power. When the other team's <Fed as F person> jumps on the ADC, they don't see the 12% reduced damage (6% on ranged supports). They DO see the 500 health shield and 250 health heal. They also FEEL the 10% max health true damage. So it makes sense that locket/Redemption get more of the mob's focus.
Zeke's is a great item until the ADC hits 100% crit chance. Which generally happens around 3 items - the same time you'd buy Zeke's. Unless you're Veigar and want the +20% AP. Zeke's has the same problem as Ohmwrecker. Great item, but useless by the time you can reasonably get it.
supports have build diversity, look, they have so many different types of builds!
if you have heals and shields
if you're a tank against high physical damage
if you're a tank against high magic damage
if you're a mage
WOW MANY BUILDS!
"We changed it so it's still mandatory except it doesn't help the support themselves as much".
Nice.
Junglers too. Your lack of game knowledge is showing.
The locket shield active is a little fckin Op. I always rush that shit on support. Im dirt tier so redemption isnt as god the retards nvr stay in the heal lol they run from it.

Suspect you are right about the wood tier running away from the Redemption zone. Played a few arams with some unranked and some bronze players, and I bought the Redemption (because I was familiar with its usefulness from Rift play on my alt). You can imagine my astonishment/frustration/amazement when my own team ran away from the healing area.
