Thank you for Ornn, Riot!

So over the past week or so I've seen quite a few posts complaining about Ornn. They've ranged from the generic "he's weak", to pointing out that his ability scalings do not synergize with themselves, to people calling him clunky amd too awkward to use. I haven't seen too many people say that they've enjoyed him (aside from Gbay99's video).

Well, I thought I'd pop in here to give my 2 cents on Ornn, and why I enjoy him.

I've always been a big lover of true, traditional tanks. You know, the ones with cc out the ass, but who don't deal much damage. Some of my other favorite champions in the past have been maokai, braum, sion (updated), and zac (pre update). Ornn fits right in with them, bringing 2 aoe slows (q, and r1), and 2 aoe knock ups (e, r2), but typically requires 2 or even 3 spell rotations done perfectly to take anyone down alone. I've played many games on Ornn so far (tried him in top, jg, and as supp a few times) and I can tell he will be my favorite champion for quite a while.

I don't even know exactly what it is about him that makes him so fun for me, but whenever I manage to w to evade a riven stun, or get that juicy 3 man knock up with my ult, or interrupt a Lee Sin q with my e knock up, I get this immense sense of satisfaction. It feels like there's finally a tank that has solid skill expression in every skill instead of a simple "press w on the right target to win" (maokai).

This isn't even mentioning the passive. Being able to buy from anywhere is a super unique thing that I find very obviously differentiates him from other champions. There are champions with offensive, defensive, and utility abilities in League, but this is the first one that I don't think belongs in any of those 3 categories. My only negative comment on his passive isn't even about the ability itself, it's about teammates buying masterwork items as a first buy (seriously, please don't do this).

I don't really know where I wanted to go with this post to be honest. I seem to recall seeing something from a Rioter very early on when Ornn was being teased where the Rioters said they expected this to be another niche champion that not many people would main, but that those who ended up maining him would love him. Well, I can say I'm one of those people, mysterious Rioter. Thank you very much!

People want high damage tanks and I'm happy riot is moving away from them. I don't care what people say about "everything bursts a squishy", not tanks. They're not meant to. They're meant to be low damage, high cc/engage play enablers. Them engaging on an ADC isn't meant to hurt the ADC. It's meant to enable your team, your carries, to do that.

Ornn also can't be as strong as other tanks because he adds gold value to your team that can't be replicated by the other team. At full build, Ornn's team has more possible gold in their inventory. This means, ornn needs to be a bit less strong as a champion.

But I highly approve of ornn. I do wish he was a little less clunky to be honest, but his damage is where it belongs, his CC is phenomenal, and I love hearing his ult.
