Force primary in 60% of all matches?

I think matchmaking should force your primary role in at least 60% of all matches. Why else would it ask you to choose a primary and a secondary? Right now secondary "support" and "fill" players are pretty fucked since they get "support" almost all the damn time. This isn't healthy, just because support may be my second best role doesn't mean I like playing it all the time. So I think Riot should add this to the matchmaking algorithm. Would you guys be ok with longer queuetimes for that?

it also doesn't help that its SOO bad the people who actually WANT to play support are taking it off as a role option because they don't want to get it 100% of the time.

MORE people would put "support" or "fill" as an option if it didn't ALWAYS give you support

True! Support may not be my second best but I'm actually pretty decent at it. Well that's now part of the past. No way I check support as my 2nd. Taking support as 2nd is basically saying "I don't even want to play my primary".

I think people just need to start picking their options with the knowledge that support or fill in either primary or secondary is usually going to get you support. Played two games as support today and want a different position? Take support and fill off, go top/jungle or top/mid or whatever you want. That's okay.

I went from a Mid primary and Support secondary to Mid primary and ADC/Top secondary. I suck at both of those roles, too.

top/fill here... and looking back at my match history, I have 9 support and 1 toplane games in my last 10 :D

on the plus side it's done wonders for my winrate D:

I think people should be realistic about queue times, and there will always be complainers either way.

But yes. A better priority to primary roles is ideal.

Yeah I'd rather have longer queue times to get a more enjoyable 20+ minutes after. Riot seems to think queue times are all that matter atm, thus the removal of queues (team builder and dominion), to force people into fewer queues.

Side note: if you duo queue with 1 person having support secondary, and the other having bot (adc) as secondary, you'll most likely end up playing bottom lane together around 90% of the time, because if it puts one of you there, it tries to put both of you together, and the person with support secondary will get support almost every time.

I actually have a buddy who goes support primary, and he really doesn't want anything else. But he ends up getting top almost 20% of the time.

I'm not calling anyone a liar, but I've been pretty pleased with the system, myself. I go adc>mid, and he goes supp>top, and we still get forced mid and top a fair amount. Again, maybe 20%? Just an estimate.

No. It would kill queue times. I don't mind waiting 5 mins but this would make queue times worst than what challenger was at.

i agree with the op.. i haven't got to play my primary role in almost a week. by the time i actually get it I am going to lose because I am going to be so rusty at it

No, force it ~40-50%. Then there's the other 50-60% where it's left to chance, so you'll still get your primary more often.

i think it should try to find your primary first, like it should wait a few minutes or so to attempt to try to find you your primary role and after a certain time limit has passed, like for say the estimated time wait it shows you or something, just do the queueing it does now or whatever

The people who put no are probably the same people who main Zed. XD

Would you be ok with matchmaking taking 60% longer to find you a game? Remember waiting for 30+ minutes to find a game because no one was queuing up as a support in that one game mode (can't for the life of me remember the name of it)? The reason setting support or fill ALWAYS gives you support is because there are so few people out there that want to play support regularly. It just makes the problem worse when those that want to play support get rid of it as a secondary because they are getting it a majority of the time.

It's a player base created issue, and I don't see how Riot can fix it. Short of doing what you're suggesting, and then having fans piss and moan because they are stuck in queue waiting for a support to show up.

that isnt entirely true.. MANY more people would put support or fill as an option if they didn't get it 100% of the time. i am willing to bet over half the support mains/secondary don't put support as a role anymore. yeah its fun the first 10 times.. but after 20, 30, 40, 50... support games in a row.. people want some variety in their life.

i dont really think the que would be that much worse because people would PUT support as an option. i am perfectly fine with supporting 40% of my games.. im NOT ok with supporting 90% of my games. and therefore people like me take support off as an option.

Tblanc41 votes

And taking it off as an option is the reason people that have it set to secondary are seeing it picked so often.... There is a significantly small player base that likes to support. Even smaller that have it set to primary. So if you queue up w/ support as secondary, and get into a game where you're the only one w/ support set to either... well guess what? You're going to get support, and the more people that take support off of their secondary/primary, the worse the problem gets. No one but riot could try to guess what the increase in queue time would be, but to say that there wouldn't be a queue increase is just silly. There would be.

SwiftKitten881 votes

yeah the que time would increase slightly.. but i don't think it would be as bad as people think. we go back the the scenario of 1000 people and 200 people with support as secondary or primary

the people who put it was primary will ALWAYS get it the people who put it as secondary will get it 40% of the time and so we lose slightly less than 60% of our supports..

except we GAIN all the people who took support OFF as a role option. which I'm SURE must be at LEAST 25% of players if not more

and if are are already at the point where 60% or more of the players have taken support off as a role option when they don't mind supporting then que times would go DOWN. which probably isn't the case but is still a possibility.

i think the 75% would be too much and might negatively effect Que times too much, but 60% seems like a good number

granted the people who took off support as a role option would have to put it back on as an option.. which people might be hesitant to do. so i would probably predict longer que times for the first week or two but after that and people put support as an option the que times will go down.
