Bard tips?
Hiya! Really want to pick up bard, but I'd like some tips for playing him first.
Advice?

one thing i like to do at the start of the game is start w go top mid and where the jungler is starting and give them all shrines before minions spawn you get 3 chime spawns which will recover most of your mana and just be passive until level 2 for your q
I always enjoy reading the comments when I do this.
Team: Bard, wtf. Go bot! /all report bard for troll.
5 seconds later
Top: Thanks bard. Mid: Cool, thanks! Jungle: Pro Bard. ADC: . . . (<--- Best ADC statement I've ever gotten from this opening.)
Or if our top/mid is pretty sustain heavy or hard-countering their opponents, I'll drop 2 med-kits at the opposite buff (red/blue) and 1 where they start. That way when they finish the first camp (and take the med-kit), I can drop a 4th and 2 more will still be waiting for them. . . . Unless he gets invaded and the enemy steps on my medkits (they always do for some reason). But then we know to do an invade of our own. :)
But then what do you do once you get to lane? Starting w instead of q means you miss out on bard's amazing level 1 with q. You'll probably get pushed in too since you can't fight.
Bards passive is still nothing to scoff at. But otherwise, you just have to be less aggressive until level 2. Unless you're against a Blitz/Draven kill lane or lvl 1 Ivern gank, there's very little kill pressure bot lane during the first few levels - it's all harass (Granted, the harass does add up). And if the lane is getting hard shoved at level 1, Q probably isn't going to save you. (>_>)
It's ultimately a question of resource distribution. You can double down on your lane at level 1, or you can give everyone else a small boost until your first roam. Especially top, since you probably won't be up there again for a while (Island hopping is expensive). I prefer to cast a wide net in yolo-queue.
Q wasn't for pushing but rather for stunning and killing but I hear ya. I prefer to dominate my own lane.
Timing is key
And you can w people in your e while they're traveling for a guaranteed stun
Also learn his q hitbox
What's to learn about it, it curves to walls or other people anyways LUL
Nah, not really.
act like youre gonna leave lane to collect chimes and use your magical journey to set up easy ganks with your jungler
roll movement speed runes, so you can get more chimes. build a sheen item. get a zonyas if you're fed just to be extra golden. never pass up a chance to bm.
pro bard tip: build rageblade and go toplane.
