Ward skins have no use in a variety of modes because wards aren't available, what if...

...in some of those modes, when you die your "ward" drops near or on you. It won't have any health and won't be targetable or grant vision, and will disappear after about 10 seconds.

That might be too often and become annoying, so what if it only drops when you are shut down?

Just trying to think of some way ward skins can have a little use in modes without wards, since they do cost RP. Any other ideas (doesn't have to be related to kills, but it can't take up an item slot)?

Add in a ward trinket for those maps/modes that drops a ward, but make it fully visible/untargetable/no vision just like you said. It'll be like having a spray in TF2 or CS.

I considered that, but there are trinkets for those modes already. Poro-snax, Arcane Sweeper, and various things for RGM's.

What if on Howling Abyss modes, feeding Poro-Snax to a poro drops your ward on it? Or nearby, if multiple people are feeding the same poro?

That's a fair point. I remember Poro-snax (which disappear and don't come back), but I'd forgotten about the others, like the Ascension teleport...

they should also add this in Bronze so Ward skins have a use there too.

IDK why we don't have wards on some of these modes. I like the 'one ward per player' limit, and if we had a cool selection of neat wards, each with their own pros (a unique benefit or reason for choosing it) and cons (like having some exploitable blind spot in their field of sight), we could let warding be part of the gameplay in these modes.

Something like reduced vision range, maybe? For a map like Twisted Treeline, a ward is too strong. One ward and you can see if enemy is invading. With reduced vision range (and maybe not being invisible), at least you can clear those wards. Another possibility is making it into some sort of a trap that activates when enemy champions are nearby. Vainglory has a similar system.

I was thinking vision in a cone, or a rotating cone, for one ward. Perhaps another could grant a thin but far reaching line of sight in a single direction. Both the wards and their vision fields are visible to opponents, letting them outplay and outmaneuver. Maybe another ward is invisible but it doesn't grant sight at all. Instead it grants an audible / visible ping whenever enemies come too close. The enemies could hear the ping.

It helps you defend against invades but would still allow for a lot of ambiguity about their current position. Your opponents can still take advantage of the limitation in the wards field of sight. Your teams information isn't absolute.

I have thought about the same thing, how could riot use wards outside of normal games on summoners rift. I love the idea that if someone is shutdown they drop a ward "It won't have any health and won't be targetable, and will disappear after about 10 seconds.". Only thing i might add is that the ward doesn't give vision

Oh yes I forgot to mention that. The ward is entirely non-functioning.
