I see the same thing happen with top lane and Ekko. If he's not banned, someone always yells "wtf top laner, why didn't you pick Ekko, report 9x".

People are dumber than sin and forgot about 99% of the game's features and functions in favor of more damage. Mages are powerful as all hell, but people want the flashiest, killfastest of killfast assassins that all the major tournament players play, and they want all the pentakills. It's a half-baked power fantasy that only exists in the realm of bot games, and even then only in the most extreme and rarest of circumstances.
