Genuine Question: Fair Game vs Fun Game - Which do you prefer?

WildEyeHorse··3 votes·5,053 views

Because it seems that most League players would prefer a game that gives them all the power for doing nothing and then calling that "skill". So where is the cut off point? Why do people not want a fair game? Players have shown multiple times that they are happy with being overpowered and doing nothing to earn that power.

Are people just that lazy? Which do people prefer because it seems like both cannot go together.

People seem to like champions that started with Yasuo which had completely unfair kits compared to what came before? They seem to be happy with a one-shot killshot meta rather then supporting a considerable damage nerf to make the game strategic again.

So which is it?

I don't think that fair and fun have a linear tradeoff.

In other words... why not both?

You think unfair game is fun?

The issue is that the current game isn’t a fair system or a balanced system.

One team is almost always just hard stomping the other and the team that’s behind is just waiting for the enemy to close the game out.

Sure. The first 6 minutes are balanced, but after that the game is just one side having fun, and the other just bending over because their team won’t ff.

Since League is the discussion, fair game. If it's a competitive game, it cannot be fun unless it's reasonably fair.

The majority of the gamer population is a casual playerbase. They want instant gratification.

They want to feel like they're good without actually putting in any effort to actually GET good.

Answer should be pretty obvious.

You're basically asking if the minority (better game) or the majority (easier game) should win.

For starter put players of SAME skill into game and then you can start asses data that are practically irrelevant in current mish mash with smurfs as cherry on top.

Unfortunately, most people prefer an unfair game where they can one-shot anybody without any skill. League is catering to these players with all of the new champs and reworks. Just look at all the damage and safety.

I think fairness and fun go together. It is more fun to win when I know I beat my opponent with skill, not at overloaded kit.

I think that's a hell of a false dichotomy you've presented there, but if forced to choose between the two, I'd choose fun. Why would I waste my time on a game I didn't find to be fun?

My oppinion: Having a fair and balanced game is fun no matter if you lose or win.

Fun, most people prefer fun.

I can use fighting games as a perfect example. The most balanced street fighter was the original, there were two characters, they functioned the exact same and literally had NO differences, in turn, the most well received street fighter by far was far and away Street Fighter 3rd Strike, I think anyone who has seen both would MUCH rather play and watch 3rd strike instead of original SF.

going 25-1 isnt fun. I prefer a fair game.

no one who has history with this game wants damage nerfed. if you want the game slowed down then you buff hp, you don't nerf dmg when we've seen what happens when dmg just gets continuously nerfed without recourse. the game is fair right now, if it weren't the fun brigade would have quit already.

What is a fair game? What is a fun game?

You would need to answer these questions before I could answer yours.

To me a fair game is a fun game. I enjoy a 60 minute, balanced, even game that we lost more than a 20 minute shitfest where I stomped the enemy into submission.

Of course a 60 minute game is exhausting and I need a break after one and of course I'd rather win than lose. But I enjoy games that last long and are balanced. There's nothing satisfying in winning lane (and subsequently the game) because a coinflip player lost his coinflip against you and proceeded to feed due to not knowing how to play from behind. The same goes for losing lane because they won their coinflip against you.

I know that there are people who see their end goal and success in a win and can't have fun when they lose. I find that to be the wrong mindset. The journey is the destination. Why would I want a free win? Yea, it gets me closer to my end goal for sure, but it doesn't help me improve.

I would've said fair, but that's not about league. League was built solely around being fun.

I just want a game where my team is the same lvl of me and the enemy. I f I lose is ok. but knowing your adc is terrible at 5 minutes of game is really depressing as a support.

Fair game because I hate being oneshotted, not being able to carry my own team due to them being a bunch of brainless schmuks

nyakasgoods1 votes

Hot take: getting oneshot is more often unfun than it is inherently unfair.

OP would prefer a fun game.

I'd prefer Fun AND Fair. And it is a hard concept to master, especially in League of Legends

And it's not really helping that some new champions, while they DO add some uniqueness to the game, just are sometimes too OP and overloaded in their kits, making it a nightmare to balance.

Is the Champion fun to play AS? Is the Champion fun to play AGAINST? Are the items fun for YOU to use? Are the items fun when used AGAINST you? Are the Runes fun to play WITH? Are the Runes fun to play AGAINST? HOW is the game FAIR? Is the Champion fair for you to play AS? Is the Champion fair to play AGAINST? Are the items fair for YOU to use? Are the items fair when used AGAINST you? Are the Runes fair to play WITH? Are the Runes fair to play AGAINST?

And Balance has been getting this wrong too often as of lately, but they do sometimes do get it right.
