Are Riot terrible game developers?

Genuine question. Riot seem to lack skill in their designs. Hitboxes are coded badly (my husband is a computer programmer), animations do not match casts (which can be because Riot allow high ping players to play the game on certain servers, which negatively impacts the server) and their balance system is truely bizarre.

Why is CDR even a think, Riot clearly wants people to have no cast time on most things so why not just let everyone start with 40% CDR at the start and cut out the middleman? Why are champions like Nasus designed in such a way that players use them in a way that Riot never intended, like stacking armour and mr forever while getting stacks of true damage and a slow as powerful as Zilean's on a low cooldown?

I know Nasus is a "noob" champ but its interesting as it gives us a look at Riot's inability to design interesting but most of all FAIR champions. Either something is useless or broken these days.

Cast time is unrelated to CDR Getting CDR is an investment, you sacrifice some other stats for it. Its like this with any other stat.

I doubt it is "never intended". You have a champion that does not need damage stats to damage, but he has to survive for long time to actually reach someone and use enough Qs to kill them, its pretty obvious people will stack tank+cdr items on him

it gives us a look at Riot's inability to design interesting but most of all FAIR champions

Define "fair".

Define "fair".

Having each champ have equal "outplay" potential. Having each champ have a similar amount of strengths and weaknesses Not having 14 dashes, incredible burst damage and incredible defensive tools at the same time. Akali Yasuo

Let's be fair, getting CDR isn't an investment anymore.

Its tacked onto items you'd probably want anyway. They aren't only on low damage utility focused items anymore.

sorry but what? Nasus has always stacked defenses, he is a juggernaut they build one to two damage items at most then nothing but defensive items so please tell me how is Nasus being played in a way that is not intended? hell tell me how Nasus even is getting true damage in his kit? you don't seem to know what Nasus does other than "he stacks and gains damage". 40% CDR at lvl 1 vs 10 is a huge difference, seems to me you have no idea what power gating is. Tell me what does Zilean provides then? he has to choose between slowing someone down or speeding someone up. He has ONE offensive ability (and it's a skillshot) everything else is just utility. What does your husband being a computer programmer has to do with anything?

You can tell Nasus was not originally designed to do that, some pro played it that way and it became the default way to play Nasus. The fact there is no other option shows what a badly designed champion he is. He has 2 offensive ability, his Q which is point and click and his E.

sorry but what are you even talking about? i have been playing since season 2 and this is how he has ALWAYS been played. Someone having one proper way of being built does not make it "bad design". Hell you can go full AP Nasus if you want to, it's not good or recommended but you can play him full AP, you can build nothing but damage on him which is just as bad if not even worst but you can if you want. Sorry but please stop talking about things you don't understand. His E has never been part of his main damage it has done two things. Allow you to either push/farm waves early on and have people lose armor so that you can Q them in the face. Also love how you don't even bother reading properly since i said ZILEAN has one offensive ability.

Nasus has always built Triforce, maybe one other damage item depending on matchup, and then full tank. Been playing since Season 2.

Until you have coded anything in your life, kindly shut the fuck up. Yeah, their code is spaghetti as shit at times but I fucking despise people who are like "Oh, how hard can it actually be to do this?" If it was that easy, everyone would have a video game of this caliber, or a video game in general.

Why is CDR even a think, Riot clearly wants people to have no cast time on most things so why not just let everyone start with 40% CDR at the start and cut out the middleman?

Because casting and using abilities is fun, it is why people love URF so much, not my cup of tea personally, but whatever.

Why are champions like Nasus designed in such a way that players use them in a way that Riot never intended, like stacking armour and mr forever while getting stacks of true damage and a slow as powerful as Zilean's on a low cooldown?

Because balance. Out of all the slows in the game, there are only two champions who have slows naturally in their kit that are, single target and do no damage, those two champions are Zilean and Nasus. So yes, their single target slows get to be stupid because they are single target, do no damage, and have features that don't even affect certain members of the cast while also being the weakest kind of CC in the game in just being a slow.

I know Nasus is a "noob" champ but its interesting as it gives us a look at Riot's inability to design interesting but most of all FAIR champions. Either something is useless or broken these days.

Just shut up, you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Um, how is it at all relevant that your husband is a computer programmer? If he's seen the codebase and seen how the hitboxes are ACTUALLY coded then that would be relevant. But if you're just saying because you think it adds some validity to your claim, it doesn't because you don't need to have programmed for 12 years to see that hitboxes don't match up visually.

Zilean doesn't have to Q several hundred minions to be useful. You honestly had me until you spoke about CDR, and then obviously your weed or whatever started talking.

I mean you aren't even able to play in ranked at your level I highly doubt you know enough about the game to be making this judgement, sure riot isn't perfect and messes up on certain things Akali 's rework but i wouldn't say terrible, they come up with things sometimes and it's like their common sense turns off Galio Q being buffed to insane numbers but they do interesting and fun things too Pantheon for example

WoonStruck1 votes

You think pantheon is interesting and fun? lmao

His Q is just as busted as Galio's right now.
