Why is Darius bad mid game and good late game

Isnt it supposed to be the opposite?

His winrate is highest from 0-15 minutes and then drops by around 10-15% until minute 40. It doesnt really make sense to me. Disclaimer : Im not asking for buffs, he doesnt need them but I thought Darius was supposed to be a lane bully that excels early mid game and falls off.

I usually build him late game to begin with but I never checked his stats until now

The problem comes from the fact that he doesn't really itemize for the mid game, since his kit doesn't really allow him to do so. Of course, his base stats and his passive, combine with his ult, allow him to win most matchups straight on. However, he cannot really push turrets and split in the early game, since he doesn't have reliable CC or escape. He can only split effectively if he has a large enough lead to 1v2 consistently. He does come back in the late game, as he can get picks from misplaced ennemies and snowball fights in the right circumstances. In the later stages of the game, he can allow his team to do a lot of DMG with his own item 3071 while he stacks a lot of hp or resistances.
