riot reworked Aatrox for being a "statcheck" but here we are, the biggest statcheck in existance left untouched: Jax, and the worst part is that riot thinks his kit is healthy and fun to play against.

DeathBurst11 votes

I hate Jax personally, but you cannot sincerely say he is a stat check champ...

Hitting the stun can make or break a fight, he has aa resets he needs to use properly to maximize his DPS, stacking his 3-hit passive is super important in laning phase.

I assure you I can feel the difference between a bad Jax who just try to stat check and a good Jax that actually know their champ, when I'm playing against him.

Marshbouy28 votes

jax is literally one of the most statchecky champions in the game. Just because you have to press e and Q occasionally doesn't change the fact that he is a stat check.

This is why he's a stat check:

  1. If you don't have a dash you can't dodge his stun without blowing flash, then if he has more stats than you, boom he stat checks you do death.
  2. Plenty of champs can't fight him during his E, but he can sit there and beat you to death for some reason. By the time his E is finished, you're mostly dead so you can't fight back even after it.
  3. His W is just "do more damage" with 0 interactivity or ways to avoid it.
  4. His jump lets him fight only on his own terms, and there's no way to outplay. Once he has it maxed, you can't run from him most of the time.
  5. His ult is just "get more stats" with a do more damage passive.
  6. His passive just gives him more attack speed, for using auto-attacks. Wow, so interactive.

Jax is the epitome of a stat check, if he isn't one, who is?

Well, old Aatrox was, that's why he was reworked, you said it yourself. Mundo is pretty up there too, and so is Olaf, despite their skillshot, because they will use them point-blank most of the time. Garen also, to an extent, and Tryndamere.

And don't get me wrong, those are champs I actually play myself, so I am NOT saying "stat check is bad, need rework, blabllabla". But Jax is simply not stat-check compared to them.

Now to reply to your detailed points:

  1. There are other things to do during the stun. You can buffer long animation (Darius Q and the likes), CC him and get out of range, etc.
  2. You mean, almost no champ can fight him during E, except maybe Mages. But that's the point of that skill. You have to bait it out, outplay it. That's precisely why Jax is not a stat-check champ? You have to actually interact with him.
  3. Like all AA-resets in the game. I don't hear you complaining about Yorick Q or Darius W. Why the double standard?
  4. There are tons of worth champs on that aspect. Kled has a (potentially double) dash, and so do Renekton. Riven is super mobile. Trundle has good CC and zoning. All these champs can "fight only on their own term". That does not make them (or Jax) stat-checky.
  5. Udyr has no ult at all. Vi W is just a passive with no active component at all, and Varus was for a super long time. Jax/Karma/Heimer ult are just "get more stats" on your basic abilities and have no effect of their own. Once again, that does not make them (or Jax) stat-checky.
  6. Yeah, actually I do agree with that point. But one point over six, that's not enough to convince me. There are 5 arguments that he is NOT stat-checky above.

  1. Then he hits you with the stun and you lose anyways, doesn't matter which animations you "buffer"
  2. Most mages can't go toe to toe with Jax, specially when they have skillshots which he can you know just dodge. 3.Two wrongs don't make a right, so why does it matter if Yorick, Shyvana, Darius, Camille have AA resets, we are speaking of Jax.
  3. idk how any of this is relevant. they are different champions. Some of them fall off, others have issues during teamfights.
  4. and Varus' W was nerfed and given an active for being too strong as an on-hit, let's not forget that apart from Udyr and maybe Vi, all those champions you mentioned have skillshots, no dashes either. So again its different champions. what is "too strong" on one champ might not be on the next one.

Re: points 3, 4, 5: it's not that two wrongs make a right, it's a demonstration your arguments are not valid.

You said "Jax has properties A, so Jax is a stat check champ". I reply "This other champ also has property A and is not a stat check champ, so having property A does not make a champion stat checky".

And if you're arguing against Jax being "too strong", again, I said at the very beginning, I hate Jax, so I won't disagree with that. What I fervently disagree with is that he is just a stat-check champ.

So maybe we should define "stat-check" precisely, shall we? A stat-check champ is a champion that either has enough stats and beat you without any possibility for you to do anything against it, or has not enough stats and can't beat you no matter what they do. As a consequence (but not part of the definition), it's generally a champ that has a very binary state, lack of interactions and counterplay. By this account, Jax is not a stat-check champ.

Old Aatrox isn't a stat check champ either with your definition. Wich he was btw. Just like Jax is. Except, aatrox didn't have an AA-reset & he didnt get free stats on his R. Old Aatrox & Jax have similar play paterns, with the difference old aatrox had 2 skillshots, while jax has none. And jax has autoattack immunity that gives 25% aoe damage reduction. And an ultimate that gives him armor & MR. And a free attack speed steroid (OH, LOOK JUST LIKE OLD AATROX, WHAT?!?!).

Jax is a stat check. He is literaly same as old Aatrox, except Aatrox had insane healing, while jax has the ability to dodge attacks & free armor/mr on his R. And has 1 aa reset.

DeathBurst1 votes

... except Aatrox had insane healing, while jax has the ability to dodge attacks...

Well, at this point it's clear I'm not gonna convince you but... that makes a hell of a lot of difference. The dodge/stun is a windowed defense that you can bait and play around, while passive lifesteal/healing is simply always on, and either you have enough to survive or you don't.

Can Jax fight you from behind, while you have a lead, and outplay you? Could old Aatrox do the same? If yes, that means this champ is not stat-check because they don't rely on simply having more stats to beat you. And I believe that yes Jax can fight from behind, but no, old Aatrox couldn't.

My biggest issue with Jax is that he shouldn't be allowed to beat the shit out of you while he has his dodge active. It puts a vast majority of champions at such a massive disadvantage that it's almost and unfair skill in of itself.

Also he needs to either do burst damage or sustain damage not fucking both, this is the issue we currently have with Vayne. You have a champion that's has a kit built for sustained engagements yet can burst people down extraordinarily quickly. So he has to be one or the other.

Yeah, totally agree with that point, that's why I hate Jax so much. But, to come back to my original point, this still doesn't mean he is a stat-check champ.

Don't really agree with the point about dodge, though. There is a tension between using the dodge for protection or for the stun, and that means you can bait it out and play around it.

I personally don't feel like Jax is a stat check champion. But alot of his kit is very unfair in terms of the raw damage he can output in both situations. I guess I can live with his dodge being the way it is, if his damage was toned down in one way or another.

Aatrox shouldn’t have gotten a complete rework before Jax either. Let’s compare old Aatrox to Jax:

 1. His only hard CC was an easily avoidable knockup, you could even prevent the knock up from casting if you cc him before he started his descent on his Q.
 2. None of Aatrox’s abilities make any enemy unable to fight him except for his Q. Maybe they can’t stay in battle for long, but they had a chance to escape. They even had items that could help them massivley; Bramble Vest/Thornmail, Morellonomicon, Executioner’s Culling, etc.
 3. W, admittedly, needed to be replaced somehow.
 4. Aatrox’s jump is his main engage tool as well as his only escape tool, with ~15 second cooldown. If he uses it, he gets put at a disadvantage either escaping or going in.
 5. As was his R. Both his W and R were highly uninteractive to the enemy and unavoidable without being far from Aatrox, and essentially just boosted Aatrox via stats (AD, Attack Speed, Lifesteal, AA Range)
 6. Aatrox’s passive, at least the original, took much longer to charge up than Jax’s. It also allowed him to revive himself once every 5 minutes, the only problem is that usually he is stuck in a very vulnerable place.

So why did they rework Aatrox before Jax? He was placed #4 or 5 in community want to rework, but why exactly?

 1. His passive gave him attack speed and the ability to revive based on how full his Bloodwell was. Problems: His revive left him in very vulnerable spots, AA-based champs fallen out of favor. Blooodwell was hard to fill/manage. (Debatable) Solution: Rework Bloodwell to be a set of 5 stacks. Remove the passive and place a part of it on his R. Slow movement allowed while reviving. Reception: Wide in both directions. Poor-confused, revive only on R seems out of place.
 2. His Q made him dash into the air and land in an area, the center of which would knock people up. Problems: Able to be knocked out of Q at any time. Solutions: Make him Unstoppable during the landing phase. Replaced with 3 slashes of a sword which may knock up targets in a small area. Reception: Resentful, too similar to Riven’s play style for many, dulls the essence of the character’s origins for some.
  3. His W allowed him to either heal or deal more damage every 3 auto-attacks, able to change at any time. Problems: Auto-Attack champs have fallen out of favor. Damage/Heal ratios too low or too high. (Debatable) Solution: Replaced with a skillshot that drags a target back and damaged them if they do not escape a small area within a small time. Reception: Irritated, some dislike the area’s design, others believe it dulls the essence of the character’s origins, but not wholly disliked.
 4. His E shot two skillshots that combined at the end, dealing damaged to enemies and slowing them for a moderate amount. Problems: Strange hitbox shape. (Debatable) Solution: Replaced with a double dash that doesn’t interrupt some abilities and a passive healing. Double dash reduced to one. Reception: Irritated at more mobility in game. Irritated that the second dash is removed.
 5. His R dealt damage to all enemy champs in a small area and gave him increased attack speed, range, and damage. Also filled up Bloodwell based on enemy champs damaged. (?) Problem: Overloaded him with stats and instant-cast, AA-based champs fallen out of favor. (Debatable). Solution: Replaced with an ability that allows Aatrox to access his old passive, and boosts some of his stats. Correction: Allows him to access a non-replenishing, non-boosting Bloodwell with a better revive, boosts his damage instead of his attack speed, and gets shiny visuals. Reception: No notable push in positive or negative opinions have been found.

Wat, Aatrox is a flat out worse Riven. Slower attack speed and conqueror stacking, no aoe instant stun (that chain is a pile of garbage), and his Q requires significantly more gimmicks to make work. No dash with a shield, an ult that CC's you out to give your opponent time to have his CD's ready for another CC rotation to finish you off.

new player experience in this game is hell from what ive read on the boards, so there is probably not a large influx of new players.

theyre still constantly alienating older players because they want to appeal to a crowd with a much shorter attention span and make the game less strategic.

at the same time, theyre always buffing their tournament favourites every single time when worlds are coming up.

I personally get really tired of full AD comps, and most of these champs pop up in those comps. Your posts and comments are probably the dumbest shit I've ever seen. You have a THIRTEEN PERCENT WINRATE IN RANKED, IN IRON 4 IN EVERY ROLE YOU PLAY, AND RUN ARCANE COMMET....ON ZED. Like, holy shit. This better be your troll account, otherwise NO ONE should take whatever the hell you say seriously.
