Quick Thoughts on All Champions (Galio-Irelia)

Disclaimer: These are my opinions so I encourage you to discuss yours back to me regardless of if they support me or do not. As long as it adds to the conversation I would appreciate it. Also I don't play all the champions a ton and this will come from a perspective of playing as with and against these champions. I do have some very strong opinions towards certain game mechanics that may be apart of my opnion that are controversial at the very least.

Galio - Pretty decent rework after some problematic balance changes. I really like how he plays. He offers unique abilities and a good mix of utility defense and offense. I would say that he would have no changes.

Gangplank - Gangplank is great and all, but he needs to have his interaction with grasp changed. That is just not fun to play against and is very abused. Besides that love Gangplank don't really think he would need any other changes.

Garen - One thing that needs to be changed is his villain mechanic. That needs to be removed from his kit. Once that is gone Riot can figure out what to do, but that mechanic is one of the least fun and uninteractive mechanics in the game, and offers nothing but frustration.

Gnar - Somehow reduce his oppressive nature early game. He is just too good at being a lane bully. I think once his lane bully nature gets toned down we can look at him in new light and see where he should be taken.

Gragas - He is in a pretty good spot eight now. I would recommend that he stays the same. They only issue that would really throw things off is whenever the AP fighter items are added how they effect Gragas. He is really good at abusing items.

Graves - Simple, he needs a nerf. He just offers too much. Melts tanks and towers and objectives and squishies. Has a super safe jungle clear and early pressure. He is just too good at everything. He needs some nerfs directed into a few of his strengths.

Hecarim - He just seems to either smash or get smashed. I feel like he may need a rework or VGU because I just never feel like he is in a good spot balance wise. Does anyone have any ideas?

Heimerdinger - First, a crew W max donger. I want Q max back. Heimer should be based around his turrets dps and deciding which ult upgrade to use. So in short make Heimer max Q again and I will be mostly happy.

Illoai - I do like Illoai's thematics, but she just falters in design. Her kit revolves too much around her E and trapping people in corridors. I think she needs a good small to medium sized gameplay update to allow her to be more proactive later into the game.

Irelia - A little too much mobility for my taste, but she is pretty fun. As an overall I would like to leave her as is and see how the preseason effects her and go from there. But she is still pretty new so time will tell regardless.

Will respectfully disagree with the Q max donger

In order for that to happen his W/E will have to be extremely weak/have long cooldowns, or his turrets will have to be busted to be preferable over them. Which isn't fun at all for the enemy as they lose half their health bar trying to kill a single turret (old donger) only for a replacement to occur immediately. Or donger doesn't function (if the nerf approach is taken)

They max W because dmg is more consistent, has longer range and can be used to proc turret lazers more often with a reduced cooldown thanks to maxing it. If he can Q max effortlessly without maxing E/W he'll be so oppressive in laning phase but so useless after, because his W/E will be so weak and his turrets will be wrecked by AOE once the enemy team groups. They're too squishy to be worth maxing, don't have long enough range, must be placed melee and he relies on landing his W/E to maximize their dmg via lasers.

I think it's for the better both fun and gameplay wise that Q max is gone, as a donger player and their opponent.

I see where you are coming from. I just disagree with W max because that seems more oppressive than Q max ever was. I think that if cdr of W and E were the same at all levels but W got more damage and E stunned for longer then Q max would be fine. Also only melee champions even have a real problem taking down his turrets early. I really don't see how it would be oppressive unless you were melee. Also I think that he should only be able to charge 2 turrets if he was 3 place, but once one dies it will start charging the third.

Unless you were melee... like most top laners. It's literally the reason they changed him up in the first place.

Pretty much this felas point. He was hardly played mid pre rework. And predominately played top where he was anti fun and horrid to deal with

I would like galio moved to a more niche role since he is supposed to be antimagic but he builds ap even though he has voice lines that are against magic, so I would like him to only scale with mr and not ap since it would fit the there perfectly.

Frosted Tips1 votes

I like the idea, but idk of it is possible to balance that with the current items.

Will agree to an extent. But making him scale with MR only is not the answer, as his builds will be so narrow and he'll be so incredibly niche.

He suffers from the same identity issues as pre rework. They didn't push him far enough to make him an anti mage tank. And they didn't push to make him a mage. So he's this gragas like mess of a champion who becomes too tanky for too little investment, yet deals too much base damage.

Well look at how he was played when he came out he did not build ap he built like a tank but got benefits from building mr so I think it could work but I think your 2nd point is why they wont since they dont want him being a just a tank and that too me makes me sad since it is a waste of a good theme.

I would prefer the Galio be reverted to his original form. IMO, the rework is a failure and destroyed everything his mains loved about him.

Frosted Tips1 votes

He was changed because of balance issues also. So that is not really an option. I could see if someone wanted some stuff brought back from old Galio, but he was not a champion that was able to be balanced before.

Even though he retained a 50-51% win rate from release all the way to rework with only about 3 changes from his release to his rework....sounds like a terrible balance act. I am one of those mains who haven't touched him since the rework. He had 2 of the most unique abilities in the game which were scrapped in favor of things that already exist. His W I can understand may be seen as a problem. This already existed as nearly the exact same skill in Warwick though. The only difference is that instead of fearing it taunts. His E was a one directional team wide speed buff. This was changed into a dash into a knockup which already existed in Gragas, Vi, and Sejuani. They just made his worse because it can't go through walls.

Galio was a total failure of a rework along with Swain, Poppy, Sion, Aatrox, Urgot, and Yorick. All of these have the same thing in common being a totally different champion not even coming close to resembling the original unlike good reworks like Warwick, Akali, Evelyn, Gangplank and Taric. I think all of the reworks I listed as being a failure are fine as champions, but not as reworks. Their kits work well but the play style doesn't fit the old champion one bit.

First off winrate does not equal balance.

Galio was a total failure of a rework along with Swain, Poppy, Sion, Aatrox, Urgot, and Yorick.

Lol what are you on. Sion is regarded as one of the best reworks included with Hangplank. Poppy is a pretty good rework. Sorry you are delusional and thought that practically any of the champions you mentioned were unique or had healthy kits.

The Sion rework is a great champion. I never said he wasn't. He is a failure as a rework though because the play style doesn't even come close. Sion's core build pre rework looked like item 3117 item 3089 item 3100 and now it is item 3068 item 3083 item 3065 . If you look at this and think the rework is good there is something wrong with you. Imagine if Annie was reworked and suddenly she became an AD champion or a tank. That is just absurd. Poppy was the same deal. Her build pre rework was something like item 3078 item 3153 item 3148 and she played as an assassin going in to kill one target then get out. Now she is a tank.

{quoted} Sorry you are delusional and thought that practically any of the champions you mentioned were unique

Please tell me another champion since the Galio rework who has ranged poke with cc, melee auto attacks, self heal, and a game changing ult. The only thing that comes to mind is Maokai but his self heal is on a really long cooldown and is passive, not active. I loved everything about old Galio's kit. Nothing else comes close to feeling like his did. I liked the feel of having melee auto attacks with ranged abilities and transitioning from farming with auto attacks early game to killing entire waves with Q/E later on. I loved being able to take minion aggro to heal up. I loved having to decide when to use my ult to hit the most people possible while also avoiding getting knocked out of it by CC. The only thing they had to change on Galio to make him more balanced was change his passive.

Frosted Tips1 votes

That is not a failure. They had to change their identity somewhat because they were not healthy for the game, but you know you can just ignore the fact.

He never really had any balance issues besides high mana costs. He was fine otherwise. He was pretty balanced.

New Galio is such a horrible change and needs reverted.
