Azir is oppressive in lane...

Considering his scaling and utility his potential is ridiculous overall. God tier mid laner currently.

For lols...

He's overbearing though. Seriously. Might want to increase Q's cooldown early if not lower his damage.

this flowchart is terrible, you keep running into dead ends that no longer lead to shurima

Fixed it. thx

I dunno. Feels like Azir's too strong in lane considering he functions as an AP hyper carry with good self peel. His ult is extremely powerful. If you don't jump Azir he and his ADC will shred your team apart. If you do attempt to dive Azir his ult is a wall, but not just any wall it shoves you away and blocks off your most direct route. Then if he or his team wants he can go through the wall, it basically means you cannot dive him without multiple gap closers or a flanking approach. Best approach to dealing with him is ranged burst.

He is also a powerful force in sieges...

It shouldn't be an uphill battle playing against Azir from level 1.

i like bruiser azir much more. as an AP hypercarry hes kinda weak imo. pre6 hes easy to kill if he tries any offensive plays and blows his cooldowns, post 6 hes easy to kill unless he times his ult perfectly, then you can just kill him when its on CD if you wernt aced

All walls block your most direct route(to behind the wall)...

I said it like that to emphasize the point that unless you have a good flank or Azir let's you walk up to him you need to use a gap closer. And another after he ults. And he still has another dash ability. His ult is not just Anivia's wall, it'll actually push all his enemies away and let him dance around it or chase through it (because his wall doesn't impede his own team). All the while doing damage... When playing against Azir as a short ranged champ it takes a lot of effort to deal with him and his ADC.

Teamfighting against him is hard but I just realized Azir is exceptionally vulnerable to hard CC for whatever reason.

Narasimha4 votes

Just try walking away from the wall. Seriously. Move the fight out of his zone. You don't want to fight on a dead Karthus, do you? So don't fight near his ult. Fight at your strengths, not his.

90% of the champions in this game are vulnerable to hard CC.

Azir's early game isn't as oppressive as some people think. His Q and W CDs are pretty long early-game, don't do CRAZY damage (do decent damage) and cost considerable mana to continue to poke, poke, poke. Once he's Q'd, he's completely defenseless for like 6 seconds (and I mean COMPLETELY). Just don't be a possy and walk up when he Q's you instead of backwards. Either way gets you out of range of the soldier. If he's used both soldiers, even better. Jump on him and kill his squishy bird butt.

Mannysmoker2 votes

Azir counters are champs with multi gap closers or heavy burst champs such as Ahri Akali Leblanc , etc

so if you pick a melee without any source of closing gap don't expect him to let you farm because that's what he does punish melee champs.

Also his damage is not ridiculous is more like a fighter than any other thing.

Subject 54 votes

Just to let you know, Akali and Leblanc are unable to get around his ult as easy as that. Usually Brand, Veigar, Ahri is where the advantage starts to begin-not that it really matters because the dps is literally thrice as much as full crit Kog + steroids and an additional 2 items.

Your picture is slightly inaccurate, sir.

Reborn from an ancient time, Shurima has risen from the sands, and with it the venerable emperor, Azir. Much like Renekton and Nasus, the Ascension ritual transformed the emperor into an avatar of great power.

We’ve put together a handy list just in case you need help identifying Azir, the emperor of Shurima, from some other birds.

1. Is this Azir? http://i.imgur.com/NAohiAj.jpg © Vidady / Fotolia

Close, but that’s a common pigeon (or Columba livia), not Azir, living demigod and emperor of Shurima. Pigeons are usually found living in cities and eating garbage. Azir controls an ancient army from beneath the sands.

Easiest way to counter him is to go in to attack him the moment he q's because once the soldier is repositioned there is nothing else he can do for a while, at least pre 6

AtheosisX1 votes

He's manageable if you are using a ranged champ, but if you are using a melee champ farming is a nightmare.

They should nerf his range. He got a dash, low CD's, a wall and ontop of that, high damages. He doesn't need that range.

He's also extremely squishy.

Play Zed, kat, Akali, Xerath, Diana(post6), there's a lot of champions that can shut him down.

I wonder how Azir abilities interact against Yasuo wall. That's a matchup I've never seen.

Mannysmoker1 votes

If Azir don't spam both soldiers he can fight him each time Yasuo tries to get close to him. but is heavy skill base match up.

The soldiers stop if they hit the wall, similar to Zed's shadow. NNot sure what happens with wall or a soldier that stands still.

He has an extremely clear moment of weakness each time he uses Q to poke, because Q is his main repositioning, escape, poke, all-in tool, the moment he uses it to do any of those, he can't do anything else but burn his ult against your gapcloser and then flash away crying in a corner. If you're Fizz/Zed, you can even trollpole/shadow his wall and force him to flash and farm under turret right then and there (Kassa and Kat theoretically can, but they have terrible lane phases).

Or he can not use all his Ws to Q like a retard

True. It is easy for me to beat Azir with the likes of Syndra. Although she is getting much deserved nerfs next patch

I have a feeling most people that post this kind of stuff are just terrible players. I don't mean to be crass about it, but you understand hard counters exist right? It took me all of five seconds to understand how to defeat Azir. #PLAY THE CORRECT CHAMPION AGAINST HIM! derpderp

Ye i can see that enemy team has Azir in blind pick, or if he picks after me

idk, as someone who plays a lot of Azir i find early laning to be incredible difficult. it isn't until I've completely finished my morellonomicon that i feel like im not likely to die at the drop of a pin.

Azir has to choose between farming the wave and harassing. His mana costs are really prohibiting early on so it's easy to go oom if you harass, and if you use your W-Q on someone in lane they can just walk up on you and force you off of the minion wave until your cooldowns are back. it's a mistake if you back off of an Azir after his W-Q. His cooldowns prohibit him from moving the soldier again for awhile so you can just walk up to him and punish him really hard immediately afterwards. This will cause him to miss several CS or take a lot of return damage, and in the meantime he's going to go OOM pretty fast by harassing you like that.

DSRM Mobius1 votes

if you did that azir would be horrible he already is super squish and to make the cooldown longer on his Q that would hurt him so much

AbsoluteSadman1 votes

i play alot of azir and he is very very VERY annoying in lane, mainly due to the q, quick soldier aa combo that just chunks everyone. nerf q damage at early leves and hed be fine

Since this seems a good thread here are my thoughts:

His Q should be a reposition and utility tool therefore shouldn't deal so much dmg.

So here are some changes that might reduce his unhealthy patterns and shift some power to somewhere else in his kit:

1.Take away damage from Conquering Sands(Q). I don't think this change need explanation.Base damage reduction will make him less bursty and overwhelming in early and mid game.

  1. Reduce the base damage scaling on Arise!(W) mid-late game.Give the ability a new function, see below.

On cast if an enemy champion is within the sand soldier's attack range Azir will issue an attack command and will try to hit the enemy champion(s) based on this priority list:

  • a champion with the lowest hp
  • a champion automatically. Now casting it "on" an enemy champion will deal the dmg of the soldier almost instantly but it will take control away from Azir till the attack ends. This gives him burst damage but with the cost of the range. Also its uptime and with that the chance of landing it will be more rare than of his Q and on top of that the opponent could just walk out from the range of the soldier just before it would connect making it again more difficult to land.

Possible change is to increase the damage from 25% to 30% from additional soldiers.

  1. Decrease the cooldown on Sun Disc. Increase the attack speed/cooldown ratio to 1.5% from 1.25% to balance out the damage reduction on W.

The first change takes away some burst from him.The second takes away some sustained damage from his soldiers. But balances it out by either more attack speed on the passive or more damage from the soldiers.

The Sun Disc change increases the strategical options throughout the game which is probably the most important aspect of his kit along with the ulti.

It's because Riot being the bad at balancing people they are decided to buff him before anyone knew how to properly play him so that he would feel strong even though he already was.
