[UI] Who wants more useful teamframes?

Sohleks··23 votes·4,123 views

Somewhere I've heard Riot might soon be working on some kind of updates to the interface in game. I might be wrong on that though. I would like to make a suggestion though.

I've always felt the teammate status frames on the left side of the screen to be so out of the way I never bother to look at them. Only very rarely to check ult cooldowns would I do so.

I always felt they should be moveable to anywhere on the screen. This would be nice for support players with ally targeted skills. Casting the spell onto the frame is a sure way to make sure your spell is casted on the correct target in clustered teamfights. This is very inconvenient when the frame is so tiny on the edge of the screen.

Here is a screenshot of my game with someone else's mod.

I like the status frames near the minimap so I can get more information in fewer glances. Still mostly out of the way because I can't move them in game.

Wouldn't it be nice if these were movable with different formations? Like a column, a row, or square? You could put them in a row somewhere near the bottom of the screen, or if you're playing a heavy support champ maybe someplace closer to the middle of the screen.

Might look nice with thinner borders too and circular portraits.

As Soraka main, I hate heading minions in a team fight. +1.

Sohleks3 votes

Soraka can still heal minions. Wow o.O

It's got its pros and cons. Early game the health cost is pretty negligible, so I can help freeze lane more easily, but later, it's just annoying. There was this setting I can use to only target champions, but I'm probably gonna forget every time.

I think I read that the ~ key does it, but I'm not positive.

Target champions only is amazing. So much so that I bound it to my spacebar, and move center camera on self to T. If I were playing Soraka, I'd get in the habit of using it

I get Banner of Command item 3060 and heal any damage that super minion takes just to push harder. It's hilarious how long that thing can last now with her healing changes

That... sounds viable. Well damn.

Yes. I need to put my ADC's portrait right in the middle.

Braum Janna Kayle Taric Thresh (Gotta put that lantern right on them or they won't figure it out)

Hey Sohleks,

Would love to better understand where you're coming from. For clarification, is the main issue the lack of customization for the team frames, the lack of functionality of them, placement/location or a combination of all the above?

Thanks, -Chager

When I first thought that I wanted to move them it was because I wish I could more easily use my spell on the portraits. I used to main Lulu and still play that a bit... her W and E spells may both be casted on an enemy or ally for a different effect. So in a clustered fight with enemy melee champs hitting my ally there was a small chance I might missclick the spell and get the wrong effect; using the frames eliminates that chance. I rarely felt it necessary for the most part, although in clutch moments I would go out of the way to use the portrait. It's easier in a more central location.

I have them next to the map right now because I feel it helps me get more information in fewer glances.

Right on, so sounds like position changes would be useful for both functionality of casting on allies in team fights, but also the potential to have better team awareness if they were positioned closer to other useful bits of info (vs. being on the far side).

Thanks for the feedback all, much appreciated!

I'd also like them to be cleaned up a bit. I appreciate them being small enough to not encroach upon other important aspects of the game, but they are too small to glean any helpful information currently.

It's too hard to see at a glance how much health my allies have, how much mana they have, and I really wish the ult indicator was a timer, as I'd be nice to know if shen or karth had just ulted or ulted 2 min ago and will have it up in 20 secs. A lot can happen in the span of 1-3 min and it's easy to lose track of when your allies used what spells, especially if you weren't around when they did so.

It'd also be nice if a champ's portrait would indicate whether an ally has been recently chunked to 30-40% hp or has been at 40% hp for a while now and has just been safely farming in lane.

With the eventual engine rework will we eventually get customizable HUDs. Customizable not in looks but position and size, as this would be very useful for players who want the HUD in the perfect position for them or would this cause issues for esports?

Sohleks1 votes

I also imagine if I played Soraka or Shen more (they have global ults which save teammates) it would be beneficial to have the teamframes somewhere easier to monitor.

Just take out teamframes all together I don't need those feeders to weigh me down #IMTHECARRY

I too would like some way to customize the UI without downloading third party addons. Like have a "UI" settings in the client, then have a tab where it shows where everything is placed (Minimap, health bar, enemy health bar, etc.) and be able to move things around and save it.

I am not sure on this, too, but I also feel like the team frames on the side (specifically their HP bars) seem to lag behind what they really are? even just for like a second or two.

It's kind of frustrating and I wish it was more real time.

Sohleks1 votes

I think that's because when your camera isn't near those people the game isn't constantly updating those frames in real time. To save on bandwidth or something. Not sure.

If the frames became movable people will probably expect better from them...

Other than making those update in real time always I had an idea that the frames of distant champions could be slightly darkened or faded. But not nearby champs. If just to be to be a warning the hp is not in real time.

Neat placement. Could be worth looking into.

Should be selectable quadrant option.

user decides what corner to put it in.

Should be selectable quadrant option.

Huh o.o

Divide the screen into fours and you get quadrants :P

love that placement, or slightly closer to the middle

I heard that Riot is looking at ways to rework the pinging system. With pings like "I'm retreating," "This is warded," and "Ward this." A few Reds talked about it in the Rek'Sai Q&A.

No, that is worse. That obstructs a far more useful part of the map.

In that position/order? Probably not. Moved down to the rest of the HUD? 110% agree.

It doesn't make much sense for the allied champion information to be so far away from the rest of the information on the board when it is quite vital during, say, a teamfight. The scoreboard is decidedly not as important during action, so it's fine where it is.

RiotChager2 votes

I definitely think there are better placements for team info that's closer to other information hubs. They seem a bit detached on the left side away from everything else.

Jingerbeardman1 votes

Love this idea, have never liked them high up on the left side personally. would much rather see them above my own portrait and have all the buffs moved back to above the skill interface, just separated with beneficial on the left and harmful on the right or the reverse. then put the activatable item buttons off to the right of the skill interface 3 across by 2 deep.

if that happened i would be happy lol
