Pre Season Support Anti-Poaching Problem?

Reading through pre season patch notes, theres something that I want to address. In the Support Items section of the patch notes:

EAT THE RICH - Farming more than 20 CS per 5 minutes (3 out of 10 waves) reduces gold from minions by 50%. The penalty increases with further CS to a max of 80% reduction at 50 minions. MATH - Once the penalty kicks in, your CS gold is reduced to (70 - CS within 5 minutes)%

I definitely agree that support needs a nerf and I do agree with the direction Riot is going with this change but I do see one problem with this. I main support and I've played quite a number of 4v5s where it would be my ADC that either DCs, afks, or rq. In this case, I would start farming to get myself ahead, and keep the support item so I can provide vision and a winning chance at this 4v5. For those that didn't read my last sentence and might say "then sell your support item", well I could, but like I said, since its a 4v5, vision control becomes more important to be able to carry the game, but this "anti-poaching" mechanic makes carrying all more difficult. Even in a 5v5 situation where you have a 0/10 yasuo, supports should be able to carry if they have the ability to do so. Now, this anti-poaching change is definitely an interesting change and I would like to try it out, but I wanted to point this issue out and see what other opinions are out there.

Yes I could have declined to farm those waves but the first would have crashed into the tower and the second needed to be cleared to set up teamfight in river. I was in a position earlier in the game where I needed to CS under tower due to my lane partner (yasuo) not being in lane much.

I don't think anti-poaching is the correct solution because this feels super bad when it happens. Meta enforcement sucks. The idea that a support should NEVER cs sucks. Sometimes you have to and you should not be punished for doing so.

EDIT: I'm also not sure the math works out. Patch notes state 20 CS per 5 mins. If its not some silly function of 5 minute increments you are allowed 4 CS per min. I was at 44 CS at 17 min which is ~2.6 CS per min. Not to mention at least 10-15 of those were relic procs.

Riot:

  1. Relic procs should not count
  2. Pls explain/fix the math here

The biggest problem with this new passive is that it doesn't turn off, ever. Even when your item stops giving you extra gold income. That part just makes no sense to me. The item is just a stat stick and wards at that point why does it stop you from farming if you need to.

I just played a game and I sold the stupid item because I was losing so much money that I could have just afforded 4 vision wards instead of the free wards and still had more gold than if I kept the item. I know you can only place 1 vision ward but losing like 200g a wave is insane especially as the game goes later and later where the support is more likely to start farming waves.

They just need to make the passive deactivate when the item fully upgrades because it's no longer a gold income item anymore.

Older season had already the same issue.

U couldn't get ward if your carry was afk and u had to farm because it had a penalty and the new one is equal as before and also is way better since u can still cs and poke enemy even tho for reduced gold but you earn ward which is better than before. Also no, if your carry is afk, vision has diminishing return since 2v1 should push you under tower and u will be (and should be) forced to play defensive (which mean less risk to get gold from support item,no turret plating, no time to actual use your vision except for the tribush near your tower (and sometime not even that). Plus enemy has double the control because they can put a pink ward on the bush on the river, ward way easily dragon and ward behind since u can't really use sweeper lens (the red trinket). Selling your support item and grab a dorang ring / shield / blade or even a full item could have better effect than keeping a support item into an afk lane. And btw u shouldn't be able to win (and probably also to fight back) a 2v1 unless

The enemy is way worse compared to you (high difference of skill)

Ultra fed (if u can oneshot em and they can't then it's ok but being fed onto a 2v1 should be really hard anyway)

You are playing against hyper late game scaling champ vs your early burst mage pick (eg zyra) which is still a lot of higher because u still have 2 people to fight off..

I dont think i agree with your assement that support needed a nerf of this caliber.

Support got nerfed in multiple ways.

XP gain nerf, gold generation nerf. Item start nerf.

Need more nerf?

Mark my words. Support role will become as unpopular as it was pre season 3, which had abysmal play rates and nobody played it besides the really hardcore
