How do people play Riven?
I dont know what is worse. Getting 3 shot by jax lvl 3, getting one shot and ignited by Quinn lvl 2 or getting oneshot by illaoi.

At least against Jax, you could take thunderlord's and just kind hit and run him to death. NEVER all in a Jax unless you are positive he couldn't kill you, and even then, if he ults, back off. You can 3rd Q>W>Auto on him to proc thunderlords most safely then E out.
Quinn requires knowledge on how to get in on a ranged champion. Something I still have not gotten the hang of yet either, so I won't be too much help in this department.
And against Illaoi you should build 
for the grievous wounds. Riven should win against her early without it, but late it is a must. Take Fervor and attempt to shred her.
In the end, Riven is about picking your fights smart and knowing your limits.
You have to learn how to play every matchup, riven has very few "free win" matchups nowdays.
ive been playing a bit of riven ( because yasuo bas and skin whoring )
dont try to level 1 cheese a combo unless you know what your doing
wait will level 3 to trade
max Q first
learn the basic fast combo ( this is basically mandatory now )
practice the super fast combo
really focus on weaving those autos or you do 0 damage, dont try to just blow all the Q's then auto W
Try to only use the shield to block damage rather then engage, a shield that black nothing is worthless ( unless you need to get in there ASAP to help a jungle gank then by all means blow it like a doll )
take doreens shield in losing match ups long sword and pots in every other match up
doreens sword literally never pays off now compared to other options
if you think your going to get cheesed cloth pots isnt a Horrid start either.
rush taimat 90% of the time ( imo )
build into other options after taimat ( needed for the AA cancles )
