Play Paragon

Has anyone heard of this game before? It is coming into open beta this summer and it is basically, from my understanding, league except your camera is in 3rd person, behind your champion, and there is a z axis ( hills/ elevation ) the graphics are WAY better ( its using Unreal engine 4 ) and is supposed to be purely skill based ( opposed to a heavy team play base like league i am assuming )

Don't know anything about the game you posted but League has reached the WoW point in that the only thing that will kill league is league itself.

SithesisLord2 votes

Funny you should say that, cuz in a couple of years, that's exactly what´s gonna happen.

Yeah pretty much this.

Depending on how it's managed, league might still be around for 10 years, or it could be killed within the next 5. But it is MUCH more stable than any other game on the market.

More like Smite's rival, not same field as LoL

OhWanderer1 votes

I think it will easily beat smite, but I think it could draw LOL players to, because it actually made its own characters and stuff.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Uh.... so did LoL.

OhWanderer1 votes

i ment smite with that comment, it has a greater possibility to shut down leauge than smite BECAUSE it made its own character (unlike smite)

Meep Man2 votes

And it looks visually a LOT more pleasing and cool graphics wise. It will also be one of if not the first MOBA of a third person stance to put in varying terrain height.

OhWanderer1 votes

that is a really good point, the terrain. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Is Lol a shooter? Something will dethrone Lol in the future, but I don't think that will be this. There was a time when shooters were way more popular, also the RTS and RPGs. MMOs and MOBAs changed the old paradigm. Expect something slightly different, but with mass appeal to be the new big thing.

OhWanderer1 votes

NO, it is not Overwatch. think of it more like league but with more classic MMO aspects to it. I do not know if it is tap target, skill shots, or a mixture of both.

OhWanderer1 votes

speaking of over watch does anyone think that it will kill LOL at all, or even help?

SithesisLord2 votes

The only Blizzard game that has any chance at all of ever killing league is HoTS.

Overwatch has chances to de-throne Team Fortress 2, but it´s highly unlikely it´ll happen.

ModWulf Helhammer2 votes

No. It's not even in the same genera of game

No, thats supposed to be the TF2 Killer. Lol is on a league of it own...

OhWanderer1 votes

true, and puns " LOL ... LEAGUE of its own" hah

ModWulf Helhammer2 votes

It is likely going to be Smite with different story and characters. Which makes it a competitor with Smite, not League

OhWanderer1 votes

dude, smite is not that big or amazing quit bringing it up

ModWulf Helhammer1 votes

It is one of the largest eSports in the world, has over 10 mil players as of July 24th, is the first MOBA game to come to the console market (bringing in the more casual players).

What about this seems "not that big or amazing" to you?

I may not find Smite all the enjoyable (I've played it a bit, and find the balance between ease of use for ranged vs melee characters to be lacking), but it is still one of the biggest games on the scene today

in comparison to league, and no doubt dota (i didnt look dota up), this game is not that big

and regardless of anyone's opinion on that matter, the growing popularity and no doubt popularity of paragon will pressure league into doing something

ya, that is likely, but you cant judge it to much while it is still in alpha

no i asked if it had the potential, not will it. Asking about the possibility of. not asking u to say definitely.

I welcome any healthy competition for League.

Maybe the threat of being de-throned will give Riot the kick in the ass they've needed for a long time now.

OhWanderer2 votes

YES! YES! I LIKE THE WAY THIS MAN THINKS!!!!!

Swerzz2 votes

haven't heard of this before. looks cool, so i'll probably give it a shot

Swerzz2 votes

I wonder how the system will work. Is it ganna be free to play or a 60$ upfront fee. will it have a buy 2 win system in place. I think that if it has any of these two things, it won't beat out League.

Pasta Help Desk2 votes

I'm excited. If Epic games can make this Moba even match half the fun that their Gears of war series was it'll be a great game.

Sounds like you're describing SMITE which has been out for a while

OhWanderer1 votes

ya but smite is lazily put together and doesn't make me want to play it, I mean they can not even make their own back story and characters, at least LOL can do that.

ModWulf Helhammer3 votes

Makes you not want to play it. It still has a massive playerbase outside of you, as any game is going to have

Another comment for a P.S ;

If Riot can do a Third-person MOBA with PROJECT theme , they will get the throne again.

THink about it ;

You're ulting an enemy with Zed with your viral-shadows , You're firing energy bolts with Lucian , Dash and run with Fiora and Yasuo Rush to your enemies b Leona with your yellow pixels , Alpha Strike everyone with Master Yi ,

Damn , I Imagined and I hope Riot do something like this :\

Zyorhist2 votes

um, no....its like trying to kill WoW. you cant kill it with any single game. Its a staple and will always be in use. You can compete with it, but its like trying to steal soccer players for your football team.

OhWanderer1 votes

that doesnt make sense paragon is soccer and league is soccer, they just have different strategies.

Zyorhist1 votes

no, paragon and league are sports. league is soccer and paragon is football. WoW is shotput and CoD is darts. They are all their own thing. Just cuz its a MOBA doesn't mean its League.

That's like saying Tera is WoW because they are MMO's.. They are not the same and they will compete for different subsets of crowds. Some people will overlap but they will have their own crowd.

OhWanderer1 votes

ya but its the same game just with a different perspective, your argument is invalid

ModWulf Helhammer2 votes

Was Smite a LoL killer? Was HoN a LoL killer? Was Strife a LoL killer? Was HoTS a LoL killer?

No, no, and no. This is a completely different style of how the game is played. If this game is an "anything killer", it will be for Smite, as this game has better looking graphics, and is on the two largest gaming platforms: PS4 and PC

OhWanderer1 votes

none of those, especially including smite, killed league because they weren't as good as league. they lacked in either story or game play, this game not only has the possibility of matching both of those, but its graphics are amazing.

ModWulf Helhammer2 votes

Strife had a single player campaign. Your saying that lacked story?

Smite has the mythology of the entire world. You think that lacks story?

And gameplay? The gameplay of MOBAs has been nearly exactly the same since it spawned for a Warcraft mod. The only differences are minor, such as whether you can kill your minions or not

OhWanderer1 votes

i dont know much specifically about strife, but i never hear anything about it so that should be evident of some kind of problem it may have

smite doesnt technically lack story, but they STOLE IT ALL FORM THE ENTIRE WORLD

HotS has vastly different gameplay from LOL, everything from the fact IT DOESNT HAVE ITEMS to how you scale abilities, and i know smite has a different shop system from league, and minions do not matter as much in smite as they do in league.

If you're gonna make a HoTS comparison like that then the same would apply to this game compared to league no?

Was HoN a LoL killer?

HoN was being produced simultaneously as LoL and , there was a time where LoL/HoN were neck-to-neck with about 500k players each... HoN royally screwed up and most of its playerbase came to LoL but for awhile, HoN was poised to be the leader of the MOBA genre.

Just felt like saying that.

OhWanderer1 votes

thanks, im slightly lacking knowledge on the side of that moba.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Doesn't look particularly interesting to me. Looks a bit too "Moba but now with GRIT and REALISM" kind of thing. Not too keen on the color scheme either, for a Moba, being able to see what's going on is important and the first person perspective limits this, however, Smite has characters that stand out in their environment with their designs and color schemes while this one is going for dull brown/green, grey and black colors. Looks more like a shooter game that SAYS it's a Moba but is still a shooter game.

OhWanderer1 votes

you mean ... correct me if im wrong ... you do not like this game because it actually forces you to be aware of your surroundings (including your back) and it has better graphics. Your saying u like crappy looking games that hold your hand the entire time?

Caytheles1 votes

No need for saltyness, the game just doesnt seem to have potential, especially versus the other games that are coming out, Overwatch will definately wipe the floor with it, that is only because it has gotten a head start and blizzard has a team Devoted to not letting other copies get anywhere close to their games. same goes for league

OhWanderer1 votes

well blizard does do a good job at building hype, ill give you that one XD. Not to mention ill prolly prioritize Overwatch over paragon myself.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

There is only so much information you can get from a first person perspective. If football players could see things from above them then they'd be able to coordinate with their teammates even more. And it doesn't have better graphics, it has a different STYLE of graphics. League isn't going for a realistic look like it is.

OhWanderer1 votes

well better in that it is cleaner, but granted, for its style it is still really good.
