I think your best bet is to try to watch morde gameplay on twitch/youtube.

Dude is weird. Not really a tank despite looking like one, but also deceptively tanky when all up in someones business. If you really know what is even is then you automatically have an advantage over most opponents because who even knows. Some sort of AP juggernaut thing who is probably has a buggy interaction with whatever new thing riot comes out with.

Build Rylais into Lyandrais. Picking up armguard and boots to sit on.

Runes are situational best general build: Aery. Ultimate hat,celerity, scorch or gathering Storm. Secondary pick resolve chrysalis & Bone plating.

Your W is your most important ability since it gives you all your sustain. When you cast it on an ally you get MS towards each other when the Circles touch it does dot damage. The goal is to use this during a trade and reactivate it while the enemy champion is still within range for a Big Heal.

Your E : spam in lane. Be mindful of its use in team fights more champs hit = More shield= less likely to be burst.

Your Q: has duo scaling gunblade and Steraks gage are attractive synergy. If you have a team with good lockdown.

R: Good Tank elimination with Rylais+ Lyandrais. Which gives you a big chunk of Health but a "meh" ghost. Or Get a great Ghost from ulting a Marksmen but meh Stats.

Also tag dragon within the last 10 seconds of it dying to get a ghost.

Bonus: You heal for a tonne off of Jungle camps " not only that you can Heal an ally so long as that ally is standing near enemies". Sooooooo many People don't know this it's staggering and will unnerve you to know end.

Also don't reactivate W and Cast another spell at the same time. It will 100% negate the other spells damage

He's actually not a tank, but more of a burst mage. A walking turret if you will. Full AP is usually best and if you're feeling up for it, backline ganks against Squishies almost always lands a kill if you have your ult.

A fun little strat is to get your Q to the third hit, then flash auto ignite ultimate and E

morde is extremely squishy and mage like. dont let his outfit fool you. he's not a true tank nor is he a juggernaut. he's a unique breed. as such you'll need to master his spell costs and i recommend buying 1 shot kill items that boost your Q and resistances that grant you damage. there are many situational builds on mordekaiser that can allow him to do a little bit of everything.

the big thing you need to know is that his spells cost HP. Landing a spell will sometimes grant you enough HP to cast another spell for free. his spells are combinations of ability power and attack damage. so try to find a way to work hp and damage into your build. you'll need it for sustaining in lane and killing minions without using your abilities.

as far as which lane you can go to the answer is actually any lane you want. most people will cry and complain, but mordekaiser has a passive that grants him benefits for going bottom. he has large AP ratios. He (technically) can tank. he has a reason to be in the jungle. he's able to use relic shields passive.

run into enemy team like any other tank, then press r on any low health carry. bonus points if you landed it on a jhin with FOUR or a vayne, or kog maw with w.

alternatively press r on a dragon.

you have now mastered mordekaiser.
