I feel like Illaoi is what Zyra should have been more like

Plot twist Illaoi was actually a Zyra rework but Rito decided to make it a new champ [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

her kit aside from her passive is really really good

has high base damage high cc high sustained damage

zyra has almost everything a mage could want offensively

thats what makes her unique

what stops her from being op is being squishy as janna with no real defensive abilitys and her only non ult cc is a somewhat hard to land skillshot

also people like to pretend zyra has a complex kit but really its the same thing every time

only other use of her abilitys is q>w to try and poke people but thats a waste of mana and it would be better to just wait until you can snare them

My feelings exactly, Zyra should be the mage equivalent of Illaoi.

I think they fit better with their own kits. I like Zyra's seed->plant mechanic, which is absent from Illaoi. Also, Zyra has control over her plants, while Illaoi is more like a messenger for a god.

I was thinking the same! Zyra's W should be a passive where she periodically spawns plants or seeds in her vicinity. And Zyra can interact with them using her spells like she does now. I feel like, as a plant mage, should could have more than a vine snare and a damaging bloom.

This is precisely why Riot need to do a mage update next with Zyra, her theme is too good to be left in its current state.

I can see it. The current Zyra is not that bad. Only Zyra's passive is an issue in my opinion. Her passive is completely uselsss.

I don't think Zyra should be anywhere near that tanky, and I'm fine with her being AP (Illaoi is AD, if you didn't know).

Also, I think that being able to control where she puts plants is good for her. And they autoattack all the time, Zyra doesn't have to use certain abilities to make them. This is important because unlike Illaoi, Zyra is squishy and her autoattacks aren't much good (although they are at least ranged).

Oh, and Zyra has quite strong CC, Illaoi is a juggernaut and has almost none.

There are some thematic things in common, but as actual champion design they are quite far apart IMO.

On the other hand, a passive that plants free seeds at random places near Zyra would probably be an improvement over the passive she has now, provided she can also keep her W to manually place her own seeds.

I dunno. Zyra having a more detached approach than someone fighting with their god makes sense to me. (That said, Illaoi has more cool interactions with her kit's minions and I wouldn't mind Zyra's plants getting a similar level of interactivity.)

I also feel like Illaoi is what Malzahar should have been more like. "Malefic Visions", Mal? That's a damage over time you put on me; you don't place me in an alternate realm where everything's weird and alien and things I don't understand want to kill me.

I said this the first game i played against her. She is basically just a better version of zyra. It's kinda ticks me off when riot adds a new champion that has the exact same skill, but better designed than an existing champion, for either no cost to their kit or very little. One example is Illaoi's testicles vs zyra seeds (not to mention wasted passive). Another example is tahm's R passive vs shen's passive (literally just a better version).
