Is it worth to go smite steal a baron/dragon if behind?
It seems to be a risky play that means either your team gets a good defense buff and you die, or your team ends up losing because of a 4v5.
Because either way, you still die.

do you have any other option? if the choice is between do nothing or steal baron then go steal baron
if you can take a tower and inhib, goooo ahead and do that instead
The reason I'm asking was that it boiled down to that in my last ranked game.
Me as Jungle

versus

Lux at the time wasn't close to make the call else i woulda just let her ulti it.
So we're getting shoved but we're able to clear it. Lost our mid turret but so did they(iirc)
Anyways, while my team was defending, I saw baron was available. Q'd into it but they smited earlier and I ended up reveiving a barrage of non stop CC that I couldn't even move (usually i'd be able to even press Q but I couldn't). Panth ulted in but arrived as soon as I died and as a result he died also. From then on, Sion and Xin just had to run to our remaining team members
Depends on how far behind you are. If you are lower level than their jungler, I would say it's definitely not worth it. If you are the same level, you have all inhib towers, and you have 2-3 good wave clear champs on your team, then why not? As for dragon, if it will be their 5th, then you have nothing to lose (because you'll lose the later team fight anyways).
But dealing with a baron siege is brutal. Any ideas to make handling a baron siege easier? Homeguard boots is kinda a given but any other tips?
For one thing, I can't figure how I should rotate my team when all the lanes have baron enhanced minions. (Assuming standard meta)

Just get as many of the following champs on your team as possible
Oh my god I know. Anivia, Lux, Ziggs, Heimer and other wave-clear champions just laugh at Baron buff. Oh, you wanted these minions to push? Well they're dead.
It depends on how they are crashing into your turrets. If one is going to hit well before the other two, see if you can pick off whomever is pushing that lane. Otherwise, just sit under turret and keep them off as best you can. If you have to, sacrifice the turrets and inhibs and make your stand at your nexus turrets, if you're too far behind for that, it might be best to let them take it and go on to the next game or take a break.
If you are lower level than their jungle (thus dealing less smite damage), or you are someone like Panth and their jungler is Lee, it might be better to try to pick them off after they take baron and have the debuff that increases magic damage taken. I have seen and thrown quite a few games due to fighting immediately after baron.
The point is, you want to make them dive you. the turrets will shred armor (IIRC) along with dealing extra damage.
