Garen's Spin2Win

Tilomentry··4 votes·1,060 views

What if instead of applying crit, it applied on-hit effects? No one builds crit into his build with any amount of seriousness and everyone knows that Garen would be better off with he dropped the crit for something else. So how about on-hit? You can get much better damage out of on-hits without sacrificing too much tankyness.

What say you?

Garen proccing Hydra every 0.5 seconds.

OH DEAR GOD I DIDN'T EVEN THINK OF THAT ONE

I don't know whether it would be hilarious or horrifying.

correct me if im wrong but hydra only deals extra damage to anyone nearby and not the the target u are hitting

You are correct, but imagine Garen spinning in a group of 5 enemies. Each one proc's hydra and damages the other 4. Now you've got a situation where each enemy is taking spin damage plus hydra proc x4 from the other 4 enemies. Hence why it could be problematic

That would be quite amusing (and I did consider it). I imagine if it really became that bad then it can be specially coded to not work.

I build crit with all seriousness and have a fairly strong win rate with Garen in gold.

Thank you. Man, don't tell me crit is bad on Garen, I'll build him how ever I want, dammit. And that usually involves one crit item.

actually, most of the time I play garen, I build an IE. It gives a ton of damage plus crit, and I can still build tanky afterwards. Crit is a thing on him, and mandatory for AD builds.

why not both on hit and crit.. see how that works out for gangplank? thats right! it does

Tilomentry1 votes

Except Gangplank doesn't really work out that well as a champion.

But more seriously, the crucial difference between the 2 is that Gangplank's ability is ranged while Garen's ability is melee. This allows Gangplank to play almost like an adc when using his ability so he can aford to go a squishy damage build (ideally). Garen can't afford that. If he could then the crit by itself would be fine but as it is now. Right now that crit proc part of his spin is more of a noob trap.

The problem is that Garen can easily be spinning on top of 3 champions at a time, as well as minions or monsters, which means he could spread around on-hits ridiculously fast, while other champions are limited to one target at a time unless they build runaan's, at which point they still only get 3 at a time.

Is that really so bad? Trading his auto attacks for huge AoE damage is the whole point to that ability isn't it? The only problematic situation i can see is if somehow life steal was too strong (and Hydra)

KMannnnn11 votes

Yes, it is so bad. item 3718 item 3091 item 3153

It would be like patch 420blazeit Warwick but on multiple targets.

See, right here i feel like you are taking out of context the amount of time it would take to actually build up that much power and how much straight tankyness he is sacrificing just to build those items. Try re-imagining him with only one those items and I feel you will get a better idea of how much damage he actually gets and how he well he scales (also consider the lack of an armor or MR item and how much squishier he is without them)

Warwick is probably a good example of how much power he would actually have if this change went through since both would be able to rapidly proc on-hit effects multiple times through abilities. But is Warwick a problematic champion right now?

About the only possible On-Hit item you could utilize for him would be a Frozen Mallet.

Don't tell me nobody builds crit on Garen seriously. Try it yourself, you'll be surprised.
