"Cuz ah con do et! Ah saw a PBE livestream so ah can play da new champ as gud as challenjours, gg!"

No you can't, you may have seen 1 game, and that's an idiotic assumption.

I'm still paranoid going back into ranked from all of the last-season-plats that had bad placements in my low gold games, but I think this is more inspiration to stay away for a little while longer. Ya know, just to make sure they all got to the rank they're supposed to be in.

Edit: Downvoted by "challenjours."

I do remember what ur talking about tho. Back when i first placed here the matches were unreal. Full plat on both teams and some diamond trolls here and there.

got rekt so hard.

some people (such as me) have pbe accounts, so play the new champs there and practice for when they are live.

Tilomentry37 votes

Just because a couple thousand people get some experience with the new champion in PBE doesn't make it alright for several million people to be allowed to take him into rank day one.

I still remember when Yasuo came out, it was sheer horrible for me in ranked...Every game I had a feeding Yasuo!

I wouldn't mind seeing the mastery system implemented into ranked. You need to be at least like B level with sixteen champs. (More, if they ever man up and increase the bans. Eight should have been implemented a year ago.)

16 champs is pretty big pool. I'd say that 5 (one champ per role) is ideal. Because by then you have some idea how each role is played and you probably won't screw up that much with another champion.

Celeste Benal2 votes

16 is not a big pool. That is 3 per role +1, which imo is an absolute minimum to even think about getting into ranked. Wait, how many are currently required? 15. Go figure.

This way the last-pick player can actually still play the game when he gets 5 champs picked or banned before him. It happens, especially if they play the FotM champs.

Wullf3 votes

Ye I know about requirements for ranked. But these are absolute minimum for Ranked to even function.

I do not think that people should be allowed into ranked only after they are already done mastering all roles. I do agree that picking champ into ranked that you have never played is stupid and I agree that some proof that you can play multiple roles is good requirement for rankeds.

So I am for proving you know all or most roles, but against proving that you can play multiple champions on those roles as requirement for ranked game.

This would be a ridiculous idea, I could be a godlike Top, Mid or Jungler but be a terrible ADC and Support. There is always going to be someone who is better than you.

Cale0178 votes

I suggest the same thing and get wildly downvoted.

Isn't ranked supposed to be a competitive environment? People should be playing champs that they can play competitively, i.e. that they know and aren't still learning or experimenting with.

I was about to write something similar, Mastery seems like the perfect tool to put a cap on champ experience to ranked games ^^

cookiesforu3 votes

What about those of us who have been playing since beta? Do we have to wait to accumulate "experience" with champions we've been playing for five years to play any ranked games with them? Seems problematic. If this mastery tool could account for games played over the past 5 years then yes, I would agree. Unfortunately, it does not.

Tilomentry26 votes

Just came out of a game where we had a Bard. We lost and i can't help but beleive we would have won that game with ease if that person had picked any other support but Bard.

He claimed he knew how to play Bard but his actions spoke otherwise. I think he thought he knew how Bard is suppose to be played but he didn't actually know how to play him. And i'm pretty sure everyone who picks a newly released champ into ranked is thinking that exact same thing

Truthteller8 votes

Some champions were pretty OP on release like XinZhao Vayne Yasuo etc. For me, Bard just seems like a well-balanced champion if not underpowered.

Destínum3 votes

You say Yasuo was OP on release? Everyone back then claimed otherwise.

Truthteller9 votes

Then why did he get gutted 2 patches later? The people say that he sucks are bronzies and silver.

Destínum2 votes

Because by then, people had realised he was actually really good. We where talking about release, weren't we?

Phrixscreoth8 votes

Actually you're both right- for the first little while after release everyone WAS complaining that Yasuo was underpowered or useless, but then they figured out how to play him shortly after that. Thus the nerfs.

DocShocker29 votes

If only people knew the value of bot games. Doesn't take much just to hop in one to learn at least the basics of a champ that's either new to the game or new to them in general. Even can be used to get in touch with champs you're out of practice with.

Only champs I take into pvp games are ones I know how to play or am confident that I can play them against actual people after a few bot games. Even if I was able to get into ranked games, I'd still at least practice in bots(specially for first win of the day lol).

Still, I agree with the point. New champs shouldn't be allowed just like free ones. Makes people take champs they've bought into it, with the hopes that they have experience with them. Also the fact that release champs will most likely need tweaks, bug fixes, etc. More often than not, they're not stable enough to jump instantly into ranked stuff right off the bat without even looking into the fact that people won't exactly know how to play it yet(even if they 'think' they know how unless they literally only played that champ and practiced for several games since release).

Windup Orianna7 votes

I dissagree, you won't learn all that you need to in bots since they just run at you and feed anyway. Plus, with this new matchmaking adjustment in TeamBuilder (Where they pick your opponent based on how well/much you played your champion.) I really don't see the problem of learning new champions in PVP.

Besides, it's just normals.

Celeste Benal5 votes

Normals, fine. But it is a good idea to go do a bot game or two just to learn the basic mechanics of a new champ before subjecting other players to one's poor skill with said champ.

Windup Orianna5 votes

As far as ranked, yes, I agree don't take new champs there. (Although it always feels like you completely destroy your first time with a new champ and then feed the rest of the times you play them. lol)

However, Blind Pick, Draft, and Teambuilder still fall under learning experiences which are, in fact, PVP.

Gorbache2 votes

That's correct... 5 minutes against bot is normally enough to know how your skill works and what you can with them. Then, you need specific game situations to learn. In example, you will never learn how to use Bard's R without having a few games against real opponents (freeze the enemy so they can't run away, slow down a turret kill vs freezing the enemies, etc).

Dr Easter9 votes

At least you can play ranked. Now see my situation as a Dominion player: I have to deal with "huh it's only dom, I troll" players, "my score is higher than urs so I'm better" players, "i'm diamond so i know how to play dom" players, deal with the craziest matchmaking ever, and then new champion week arrives I have a ton of people that will instalock this champion to play in a mode that is totally different when they should be trying them in normals first, even if it was blind pick.

Mango Loco11 votes

Wait playing dominion is a thing?????

huh duh playing dom is a thing? huh duh what is a dominion? huh duh do people play dominion? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? bla bla bla? etc... next.

We've all wanted this for so long... And I'm pretty sure Riot doesn't let new characters into LCS matches the first week they switch to a new patch either, so why subject us to this and not them?

Are you sure about that? I tought that was why the patches were delayed in lcs. Maybe you're mixing up with the fact lcs plays a week or two behind to allow players some time to get used to any change.

Puaru3 votes

The last I remember they didn't let Tristana in the first week they switched to her rework patch.

IMO they shouldn't be in Ranked if their price tag is 7,800 after that when adjustments have been made then the champion should be allowed in ranked.

90% of the time Insta-buyers are trying to take advantage of what might be OP no matter the skill level the other 10% is when people have been on the PBE and know what they are doing with the champion.

psychowafflezz1 votes

This is an unfair generalization. I insta-bought Braum the day he came out. Did I think he would be super OP and allow me to dominate every lane as soon as I started playing him? No. Had I played him before on the PBE and planned on wrecking everyone's face because I had mastered him? No, I didn't even have a PBE account at the time. The reason I buy champions on release (same goes for my friends) Is because I think they look awesome and fun to play, and the hype makes me want to play them NOW. Braum was an awesome, mustachioed badass of a man who leaped headfirst into fights and protected his team with his shield, all while speaking in a Russian accent. That's why I bought him first day (It also helped that I mained support at the time).

Everyone in my team asked a person NOT to pick bard. He did anyways and said "LEL shoulda banned him". Needless to say he trolled all game. Thankfully our poppy and jinx were really good.

  • Dat moment when u have bard, Galio and poppy on your team. But you still beat a team with vi and j4

A couple thousand with experience does not make it alright for several million to jump into ranked with the new champ on day one.

With the Champion Mastery coming up, they should also be recording the champs of which players has played the least, so that way, those champs will be restricted off from Rank Games. Of course, they had to play certain amount of games in normals before those champs are unlocked in rank champ selecs

I started playing annie very recently. Still less than 50 games with her. Yet I do very well with her in ranked. You don't have to play a champion for large amounts of time to be good. Sometimes it just clicks.

KaisadiIIa2 votes

50 games are too much. But at least ~5-10 games before playing someone in ranked would be good.
