Ekko's ult does too much

JustSir··8 votes·1,852 views

I know how to play against ekko, this isn't a 100% gripe post, but i do think his ult does too much...specifically 3 things that make him really annoying to deal with

  1. first and foremost, it let him "redo" a misplay or get him out of a circumstance which should let the other team punish him for.
  2. it heals him... it heals him a great deal
  3. it does damage...alot of damage if its ap ekko BONUS 3.5) allows him to stun on parallel convergence pretty easily

aside from 3.5 (which was advertised in his spotlight) all 3 of those thing are HUGE and it only has (at most) a 90 sec cd...im perfectly fine with it doing 2 of the 3 things above, but i think letting him do all 3 is really quite silly.

again, i've lanned and won against ekko's many times but i think his ult provides a but too much utility even when i shut him down in lane. Ive left ekko in lane 0/3 and 5 min later, once he hits a power spike, he is 7/3..

it has 500 base damage but really high scaling. malphite ult in comparison does 400. amumu ult does 350. this is all at max rank. aoe ults in the game. blitzcrank is 500 as well. gragas is 400. not really that much of a lot of damage the problem is that he has a little too much free damage on his kit and too much nasty aoe damage with his ult and his q. hes too sticky. it makes him seem like he does a lot of damage. and he does for a full tank because of spamable spells especially his q. which applies his passive. also his ult applies a stack of his passive so if u have 2 stacks it detonates it with ult which makes it seem like its a nuke.

Yeah, ive played against it, and have seen the mechanics, but rarely do ekko's use the ult to do the damage, they use it as a escape. Im not saying nerf the damage or anything, im saying it should only do 2/3 of the things it does. Escape heal, Escape damage, or even damage heal! just not all 3

honestly, i find the damage porton of his ult really really weird.

on one hand, it adds some skill to the champ to position the shadow properly to get a good ult off, especially if cou can ult into a slow field to stun and damage multiple opponents.

but realistically, 90% of the time it will be used to save himself or jump back out of a fight after he dashed in to assassinate someone.

i think that was the intention of the ult, to be use as both engage and disengage, but it has way too much value as a dissengage for it to be used as engage

Which is why I'm ok with his ult damage;

  • It's not easy to set up for ult damage, kind of situational.
  • If he choose to engage with ult then he either win or lose, no rewind now.

same, which is why im leaning more to the side of it shouldn't heal him. because many times my team has bursted down and ekko, and he dashes away, but his team engages and knocks us down, so ekko will just paralell converge onto us and ult...so he gets the damage, the shield, AND the heal, PLUS A STUN!...so much value in a 100 mana ability with such a short cd

I still think it should heals him. His ult has one more use : to re-engage, which I think it's the main thing they design around his ult and it's pretty cool. And from your game, Paralell Converge has a VERY long delay (3 secs), so if their team can hold your team in the area for whole 3 secs then they deserve to win.

The heal from it isn't too bad I mean if he ults as an offensive tool, he's stuck there to fight, and he's squishy. Meanwhile.. Zed who has the biggest outplay potential in the game can ult, and also get away from the shadows and stuff. Ekko has a short dash on his E, that won't do it. Ekko has to land his Q twice but even then, the slow from Q isn't that good compared to the passive proc slow which is his best bet.

In my opinion, Ekko has the 2nd biggest outplay potential in the game AFTER Zed. Zed is too safe, more safe than Ekko. Zed can poke good with his Q which is a lot easier to land than an EKko Q. Also that Q destroys almost all mid laners and nearly deletes them by the time Zed is level 5? Meanwhile Ekko has to rely on his passive proc to do the most damage, and if you just go in? Zed ults and you're dead and you're sorta useless against him until you buy Zhonya's, that way you can beat him, but even then, Zeds damage output is insane for someone who don't use mana.

Anyhow, Ekko isn't that bad. He has a lot in his kit, but the slows are shit when you compare it to a perma Nasus slow thats almost 100% and it's a perm slow once he gets his CDR from iceborn and such. Ekko's biggest slow is the passive, but yeah lol..anyhow, im done on this thread.

Don't argue with the dude, he doesn't understand logic.

Only problem with Ekko's ult as an Ekko main and stuff I have with Ekko is the ability to dive a turret, kill someone and ult back out. That's the only problem I might have with his ult, but honestly, many champions can dive and get out. Fizz again with the E, and Tryndamere and his never dying bullshit and spin to win out and so forth, but yeah I already said my piece, not gonna bother arguing with him anymore cause it's clear he lost to a good Ekko, of course he won't admit the fact.

Given how Hard Ekko's ult is to set up as an offensive tool, I'm completely cool with it, already went over how bad the heal can be, and how Ekko's use it as a defense and last resort to get away instead, but logic fails to apply to a certain person.

But yeah I happy you agree. I think if we really want to talk about stupid ultimates, lets nerf and delete Zilean's ultimate. It has a very low CD, and he can just revive anyone, that's so damn annoying. Lets talk about Tryndamere's ultimate that I hate, or Lux's 1 shotting ultimate. How about Rammus who is unkillable and has an ult that destroys people, yes it got nerfed on a longer CD, but fuck it's still stupid when he can taunt you until you're dead from his ultimate.

How about twisted fates? Pretty crappy he can just teleport in with a gold card and stun you from wherever you are minus some cheap crap like banshee's and yadda yadda lol, but the guy who made the thread rather complain about the flavor of the week since he got beat by Ekko.

Disagree completely and therefore downvoting you.

1: There are tons of champions with skills that "redo" a misplay. Zed can just shadow away if he wants, Zac can just slingshot himself out, Udyr can just run like Sonic the Hedgehog if things don't look in his favor. Lee Sin can just Ward hop away, Fizz can just E and sit there and wait for his team. Maoki can just tank for days until his team comes. Literally lots of champions have escape mechanisms, or at the very least have implemented strengths tom survive bad situations. Ekko's ult is telegraphed, and you can tell when an Ekko is going to ult more than likely, and already begin your quest on running towards the clone area just so you happen to be near when he ults.

2: It heals him, sure. It's not a good heal as people think. I got over 150k on Ekko, maybe 200k counting my other account, that heal is complete shit, people bring up the heal and I just laugh. By the way, hasn't the heal already been nerfed? It seems like I can take a ton of damage, then ult, and barely reach 40% HP. Out of all the times I've played him, I have only been able to reach like 90% HP only once maybe? Then again, I now and days build more tankier, so maybe that's why I don't see a big difference compared to a AP Ekko with less HP, but none the less, it's not that good of a heal. The heal is more or less along the lines of "hey I can stay in lane for another minute, clear and push out this wave and then recall back to base and buy stuff" opposed to a non heal fight where "maybe I should recall cause their jungler could gank any minute".

3: Are you really crying that a ULTIMATE does DAMAGE and lots of damage? AN ULTIMATE. You know? The R BUTTON? The thing you press when you want to feel like a god? Are you really complaining that it does damage and a good amount? Seriously? You're just nitpicking about everything at this point. If you get hit by an Ekko ult, you deserve every amount of damage you can take because quite frankly, I've hardly ever been hit by Ekko ults myself, its easy to play around, and 80% of the time, Ekko uses his ult as a defense mechanism and not as an offensive move. So for you to complain about this is quite laughable really. Also, Ekko's ult is hard to even land as an offensive move, only bronze players will be hit by it in some scenarios like if Ekko were to use Zhonya's hour glass for example and W and allow his clone to reach him, only low tier players would be hit by that and not smart enough to know whats going on. Anyone high tier, or lcs would never be hit by an Ekko ult like that. Now for the occasional I've been hit by an Ekko ult, that sometimes happens but it's rare, only time it most likely happens is in teamfights where no one is paying any attention which most people don't and always ignore the visual effects and such, but none the less, 99% of the champions got ultimates that do good damage, and over 70% of them can land their ults more often than not compared to how rare a Ekko can land his as an offensive tool.

I'll never understand why someone would complain about the damage from this ult compared to lets say Lux's where she 1 shots almost anyone? Or Vel Koz and his crazy burst ult, and so many others.

1st off, your third point was very rude! there is no need to be so sarcastic to someone who is only having a conversation. I am not complaining as i have stated i have LANNED AND WON against many ekko's before. I dont struggle with him, but i do see his ult as having shit tons of value with little or no risk to using it.

im not saying the ult shouldnt do any of those things, just not all 3. With the runic shield mastery his heal is 8% stronger and so is his shiled, so if he paralell converges, ults into the convergence, it does 4 things: 1) Deals tons of damage (par for the course of an ult, no problem there) 2) heals him (which no which way you slice is is REALLY good), 3) Shields him (which on top of the heal is actually just pure value for almost no cost), AND 4) it gets him out of a situation which he probably dove into in the first place (most ekkos i play against overextend way farther than they should be able to and live to tell the tale)

many ults in the game do all of those things, but NOT all in the same ult:

  1. Tryndamere's let him overexted with little risk to himself, but he has to q to heal, and e to get away
  2. Mundo's ult lets him overextend and heal for a shit ton, but has to q and e to have any sort of damage output
  3. LeBlanc's ult lets her dive under 2 towers without taking a shot and deals tons of damage, but doesn't heal
  4. Zed's is very similar to lb but his doesnt heal either ...EKKO's DOES THEM ALL!

there are many others, but it sounds like you've already made up your mind about me being wrong so ill just leave it at that

All those champions you just mentioned, they don't do a ton of damage by using those, and if you build ekko as a tank, well good luck dealing with ekkos hp again.

The core of the issue is: it does 3 things, but it cannot do all 3 on a single use. Especially, if you use it to "redo a misplay", you give up the damage portion. I disagree with your post.
