Is support a dead role?

JustSir··4 votes·510 views

Last 5 games i have played the support on the other team did no build 1 single support item...it was basically second mid. They got cs, they didnt place vision...and it fucking pisses me off...because the people on my team do build like a support and its as if im playing against a 4v5 because they have such an advantage in damage. they can team fight with 4 people and let the 5th split push because they have all the damage they need with 4 and we need all 5 because out support is actually a support? Is this a problem? i think it is, because im at the point now where im just going to run LeBlacnc, veigar, or zed support and just say "fuck it" and rack up all the kills i can get...

i know... but Diamond players got me into this game and taught me how to think and play in certain situations and everyone is silver just wants a kill. They told me and the only reason im not gold yet is because of my mechanics, and i agree. my cs needs alot of work...I WANT OUT SO BAD!!!

It's not about gold you get it's about gold you deny from enemies Teemo

If you are steamrolling bot lane - why wouldn't you build like a second AP? It's the major advantage of playing a mage bot lane. Theres also the fact that every one can hold 2 wards now for free. As support even on an AP i still build site stone as my second item - but I am going to rush my complete income item almost every time because these items have really good actives. The days of the support being useless are over now - they died with last season. You can tell now because the rolls that no one wants to play are top and ADC now. Support is one of the most contested rolls.

You try that against a real support, at level 6 your enemies will start smashing you. A couple morons don't change the game. Top 6 this season are Janna, Soraka, Leona, Nautilus, Alistar, Zilean. When they get their ults, they're going to be a monster pain in the ass.

Never forget a few things about LoL:

  1. Kids play this game
  2. Kids have no patience
  3. Patience wins games
  4. Supports exit for a reason

No..... Janna is the #1 ranked support right now with one of the highest win rates and she averages FOUR THOUSAND DAMAGE A GAME. Yes 4000.

Damage isn't everything.

But you realize that "extra" damage weakens the overall team. A support is not about damage, but rather using utilities to be able to initiate teamfights, or peel for carries, and always ward. A second mid would really hurt your APC or ADC. Now it CAN work (so can duo top and double jungle) but it is optimal to have a REAL support on your team, for the reasons stated.

I'd challenge that claim. 1) any poke support will always have damage regardless. What they won't have is farm. And a good chunk of supports will always have high base damage that aren't reliant on scaling. 2) even for those who are reliant on scaling. Mage supports in particular will always have CC to offer to the team, regardless of how much AP they build. and 3) To say that the support should only exclusively do support things, offers very little wiggle room into a team comp. If you team drafts an AD heavy comp, a good poke support can supplement the needed magic damage.

Their may be argument that the best supports don't need damage, but they would need a good team. I personally tend to gravitate towards mage supports so I can always have the APC option open. It's never a good idea to steal CS from your laners, but if they keep dying, missing the CS, or simply ignore the CS. Then I better be someone who can make use of some extra gold.

Perhaps in the cases of Karma and Annie yes, they will certainly have some damage, but it will always be severely restricted by farm regardless of the slight variations in scaling. The CC to offer is the exact point I was making, but why have a squishy give CC when the APC already does, and go with a tankier champion who can take the damage without getting bursted to kingdom come? Having a support who EXCELS in 'support things' is what makes the team comp work, and having initiation is the only way to get solid team fights. You don't have a Leona or Alistar like initiator, you can't start fights and will never win them.

The support makes the team. The TRUE supports will make a bad ADC a decent one, a decent ADC a good one, and a good ADC a great one. That is for a good support. If they are missing CS it is tough, but you can alleviate pressure by not letting him get traded on constantly. Their deaths will ALWAYS reflect on how you have done. And never yell things like "Oh, you ran in, I pinged. U suck". You peel like a madman, sacrifice yourself. Anyone who is trying will do fine if you actually know what they are doing, unless of course they are trolling in which case being a mage will do jack sh*t to change the outcome.

it was basically second mid

Squishy support and mage are basically the same thing - range + some utility, every now and than we will see mid champion doing fine on botlane this happened many times Lux Morgana Annie Brand Kayle

They got cs, they didnt place vision

If they had no vision and unfarmed marksman you should abuse it by taking objectives and ganking where they don't expect that, and avoid early-mid game teamfighting.
