Why does winning in ranked stop matching you up against people in your division?

If somebody is on a good winstreak, why is it made so that match making will try and end that streak by giving them people above their level? Is it not just common sense to be able to just climb out of your level by being better than people in your level? Like, if a gold player is doing great and climbing, why do they have to face off against plats and diamonds all of a sudden?

Why does the game just try to force a 50/50 winrate onto the player?

Because it makes the game think you belong in a higher division. Winstreaks increase your MMR, meaning you are playing against higher MMR players. You'll get more LP wins and you'll lose less LP in losses. And no legitimate Gold player is playing against Diamonds in Ranked.

It's not trying to force a win rate on you. It genuinely thinks you're as skilled as the players it matches you against.

Its a problem of inaccurate measure of skill, not of trying to end your win streak.

But if the whole point of ranked is to climb the ladder, why does it try to match you against people equal to you ahead of time when you aren't even in the same division yet? It should let you just climb your way up until you are in the place where you can no longer climb shouldn't it?

You need to stop looking at divisions and look at the MMR. MMR is what actually matters and what determines who you are playing against.

Then Riot should make MMR visible instead of a hidden value. Being matched against people of higher leagues while your own teammates are, presumably, still in the same league/division as you. There's no assurance that they're as skilled as either you or your opponents.

But why should that play a role in matchmaking when you are trying to get to the division where people are equal to you?

Because thats what determines your LP gain/loss. If you can't win games against the higher MMR players, you will drop to a point where you'll be playing against worse players. You'll still be able to climb, but it'll take longer.
