Let's Talk About Our Friend, Cho'Gath.

Will be be getting any changes soon? He's currently a monster who really has a hard time hitting his Q's and his other spells are dependent on his Q's. He has to use his ulti to be tankier, and the bigger he gets, he's basically wide open to every skillshot in the game. I think that Cho'Gath could use some Quality of Life changes. Not full on buffs, but some minor tweaks to make him much better. For starters:

  • I think his W mana cost should be reduced.
  • I think his Q shouldn't be buffed, but he should be rewarded better for hitting it.
  • I think he should get a little less large as he gains stacks. It's allowing him to be hit by** every spell in the game** (As mentioned above).

Any thoughts?

Absorbing skill shots is kinda the point of Cho'gath's growth. (This is also part of what makes Lulu's Ult so good on tanks.) My issue there is it makes his death penalty one of the harshest in the game, because he loses stats critical for his role. It's like a Soulstealer you're forced to buy. Making the stacks permanent, or just replacing them with a passive, would help a lot.

Some mechanic that limits the impact of skill shots (see Braum) might be nice, but I'm not sure what it would be.

Cho's stacks are just as important to his kit as his increasing size. The stacks give the enemy a reason to actually attack the tank, something that they normally wouldn't bother doing. If they attack him and kill him they FEEL rewarded, while in the team fight itself, if you are a good player, you should capitalize on cho being focused instead of you, meaning that the real net gain goes to the team with cho if played correctly.

I suppose he would be a viable competitive top lane pick instantly if %health damage was tacked onto one of his basic abilities but that would be lazy.

In any event, I think he may be one of those champions that are fine but don't currently fit anywhere in the meta. I would like to see the preseason changes to the game before wondering if Cho'gath is going to need buffs to be competitive in the new world.

He is viable. Very viable actually.

Riot said they are looking to address jungle viability pretty specifically, and based on what they said, Cho'gath might fit well in the new jungle (supposedly it will be harder meaning sustain jungles will be better to a degree). I agree though that he is good just doesn't quite fit atm.

This thread may be relevant. It says that Cho is a huge growing void monster that wants to eat you and suggests some QoL changes to reinforce that identity. Cho'gath deserves some more love than just number tweaks, so I am interested in what you come up with!

I thought they were talking about changing or did change that about Cho's hit size.. humm lets see, I mean I thought they made him harder to hit even when he is bigger ,, NO?

Cho is a tank, and as such, his Ult increasing his hotbox is a GOOD THING! He is the kind of tank that wants to soak a huge amount of damage whether through making the enemy team want to attack him (have to kill him before he feasts your carry) or straight up body blocking for your own carries with his large size. Cho is supposed to eat every skillshot sent his way, so that his squishy teammates can hide behind him and nuke down the enemy team.

What if you could infinitely stack feast, and on death lose 1/3 of the stacks? I agree on adding a 30% damage reduction to aoe skills and skill shots.

Giving him infinite scaling for as long as he stays alive is just as broken as the concept of the original feral flare's permanent on hit hp and damage. It NEEDS a cap to stay balanced, because once the cap is gone, Cho'gath could get infinite health, that after around the 7k hp mark, becomes nearly impossible to get rid of by killing him, SINCE HE WOULDN'T BE KILLABLE ANYMORE. Cho just needs bug fixes and a VU, his health stacking Ult passive is supposed to "soft taunt" the enemy team into killing him, so that they have a real/significant reason to ever focus the tank (make him easier to kill next time). He has a very well designed ult for a tank. Cho'gath's AP mage off build is also in a decent spot with his E and overall good scalings.

TLDR: Cho needs Bug fixes and a VU, not much else.

For Q: Maybe prolong the slow to 2 seconds? For W: I don't think Cho needs lower mana costs. It is already that he has a mana regain tool and only three spells that cost mana.

What I'd suggest is something that makes him a little less impacted by repeatedly dying in doing his job as a tanky frontliner. Maybe have half the HP gain from Feast permanent?

Cho'Gath is actually really strong if you play him right (nobody seems to understand how you should build him though....and as such they usually lose). The only thing that he needs is bugfixes (namely his Q, which has a VERY bugged hitbox, it is a LOT smaller than the particle effects).

If you were to do anything else, I suppose you could reduce the amount of feast stacks that he loses upon dying because it does take a fairly noticeable amount of time to gain those stacks back.

Cho is pretty good right now. All he really needs are QoL changes/small buffs. -Make the Red circle under champions appear faster for feastable champiions -Lower Mana Cost on W -Provide 2 stacks from feasting champions -Stronger mana regen on carnivor

Also, stop building spirit visage on cho. You will only be taking advantage of your passive during the laning phase. By the time you build spirit visage, it's mostly irrelevant. If you want MR, get Banshee's or Abysmal Scepter instead.
