Why was Amumu nerfed?
33% nerf to W. Was that really necessary?

You completely left out the part about his new passive making opponents take true damage just for him standing there and crying on them.
That was a change to his passive. Everybody has a passive. But then they went and nerfed his W by 33%.
because it affects the damage of his w............
It affects his Q, E, & R as well. Should they nerf those by 33%?
The damage on w was how they balanced the power budget overall for his passive changes.... Mostly because of the constant reapplication of the passive by w. At least that was my understanding of the purpose.
Nerfed and buffed. The AP ratio was increased, as well as the base damage being increased, along with the tick rate.
The AP ratio was NOT increased. And it wouldn't matter much if it was because most players build tank Amumu. 6 extra base damage doesn't even come close to covering the 33% nerf to % dmg.
It was though, it went from 1% per 100 AP to 2% per 100 AP, which doubled the ratio. Base damage increase helps, especially early game, as monsters aren't the highest health having creatures, so you can clear faster.
It's still 1%.
TBH Amumu needed nerfs before they updated his passive. They simply made him more desirable for specific team comps. With him on a team, you can't just build MR and ignore all of the mages now due to his passive.
