You can't do anything against them because everything (note: EXTREME HYPERBOLE) they do generates a shield, nullifying any retribution. Both of them will constantly engage on you and if you engage back you get smacked with severe minion damage in return - it is a lose-lose situation.
Other than cheesing them with a ranged top (which due to their mobility is still a gamble) what else can you do?

You say that as if hyperbole automatically makes my statement false.
Riven too can just do her jumpy combo, deal damage to you (without you being able to retaliate because stun) and get out of there without any damage from Minions because of her Shield - or if she doesn't stun you, you still lose the exchange because of her minions ripping you a new one if you hit her.
It is no wonder she, and Yasou, have the reputation of being so cancerous. There is no counterplay to their playstyle.

I thought this was going to be better than just a salt thread, but guess not. Her stun is extremely small range and brief and she is entirely melee-range outside of her ultimate's dodgeable Wind Slash. And her shield is attached to her dodge only.
By that logic, Karma's shield is cancerous.

Read the friggin' opening post. It is all detailed nicely for your reading pleasure. They can just jump onto you due to absurd mobility, not take no retribution due to their built-in shields - and if you try to fight them back you get smacked by winion retribution+the damage they did.
That is why it is cancerous. It is not rocket surgery.

I meant. Why is Riven's method of attaining a shield any worse than Karma's? Both of them have to use up an ability with a cooldown to gain a shield that also gives them some other movement related buff (dash vs speed).
I'd understand a little more if you were arguing about Yasuo who gets it just by walking around every few seconds instead of needing to burn any ability, but complaining about Riven's method of attaining a shield and not Karma's is hypocritical.
And no, if you get jumped by Riven and eat that much without being able to retaliate back even slightly, you played wrong.

And you're still not getting it. Read the opening post until you do. There is no counterplay to either Yasou or Riven during laning; you either bitch it out under your turret and eat whatever CS they toss your way or you take harass that you can't retaliate against.

We both know that "play smart" and more importantly "respect their power strides" mean hiding under your tower. They own the minion waves - if you actually look around the forums here, this is the biggest complaint about these Champions. As I said, there's no viable counterplay to them.

Their dashes are funny, because they can't dodge W. And your shield is bigger. Early game, they don't do that much damage either.
In mid-game they are so squishy, 
rips them apart.
Late game, they can't solo engage on your team, while you delete them at full build while facetanking everything 
This full build is also equal in cost to 5 of their items, giving you a much earlier power spike.
