I'd like to discuss Orianna

The recent posts about Orianna prompted this post. I hope you will read the full post but I have provided a tldr for those with less time to waste.

I think there's a gradient of op-ness. Ori, imo, is only slightly op and here I will explain why.

Tldr: her mana costs and cooldowns were buffed slightly over a long period of time which resulted in making her easier to play and more forgiving, which allows her to play more aggressively in lane.

Back when I first started to play league in late season 2, Ori was a utility mage. She did damage but not nearly as much as say Syndra or Annie. Her damage was comparable to someone like lux. Her full combo was rarely ever enough to kill enemies unless extraordinarily fed, much like lux you had to weave autos in between skills to maximize damage. Back then, Ori played the lane phase safely with the goal of scaling and teamfighting. Today Ori is a very safe and strong lane pick, she's easily able to bully champions who have shorter range and can safely lane against most champions due to her utility with her shield, knock up, slow, speed up, and displacement. She still has the same goal but has a much easier ti,e getting there.

So this begs the question: what changed since then? If we look at her patch history, her cool downs have been lowered and so have her mana costs. She's gotten some quality of life changes as well, related to ball placement. When Ori recently resurfaced in the meta, she stayed a relevant pick because of the above reasons. Note that I don't consider her overwhelmingly strong. She is powerful, but not overpowered.

My suggestion is to slightly nerf the damage on her q.

Since I do not believe she is overwhelmingly strong I would strongly suggest a compensation buff to her shield. Specifically when the ball travels to a target to shield it, I'd like for it to do just a little more damage to targets it travels through (the same amount of damage nerfed from her q). Skilled orianna players would still do the same amount of damage in a full combo and her utility aspect is played up a little bit while reeling in her emergent lane bully status.

I think that these are the correct nerfs/buffs because it allows Orianna to continue to use her lowered mana costs and cooldowns to place her ball and provide her utility as often as riot intended, while alleviating some of the pressure she can place on champions with lower range.

I'd like for this to be a civil discussion so please post thoughts and ideas with an explanation and save the qq posts for your mommy.

R: +20/+10/+0 sec increase sounds loke a good nerf imho. It's ok to be a bully in lane pre 6 but u can't be strong at all stages of the game (safe/oppressive laning+teamfight monster is not an ok option if u can punish ur opponent in a reliable way). Just wait for the syndra/ahri nerf. She's next.

I agree that being strong at all points is too much. Your suggestion is another way to nerf her early kill pressure, which is what I think most people want. I'm not necessarily calling for nerfs I just want to discuss her and see what people think about her right now.

If its gonna be done, just revert the recent needless buffs and add some cooldown to her ulti early game, she should be fine. What you do NOT fucking do is:

  1. push her to support, god no
  2. nerf her late game, she was always late game champ
  3. remove parts of her kit, she is perfect as she is

To be fair Ori used to be a viable support and her utility makes me think that she could still be viable in the right matchups. Overall I agree, her early pressure is what needs to be looked at and your suggestion would work as well as mine.
