Thresh is at a 34% pick rate

I'd honestly rather not see him get nerfed. Instead, I'd like to see other supports get raised closer to his level.
Look, man, I really miss

Personally, I would like thresh to gain MR instead of AP from souls (Who builds thresh ap, exactly?) of course, he doesnt NEED changes.
I do not miss Karma, as I still play her today I miss Sona as an AP mid (the short window when her passive scaled with AP AND doubled damage when you procced it with Q) I miss taric as a toplane menace (Awwww yeah manamune iceborne swag)

I miss Karma. But I still use her imposter on occasion, if the comp justifies it.
Oh, you mean OLD karma. Yeah, I joined around when Liss was released, so I never experienced Old Karma.
That was an interesting character, fighting with fans. She could hurt/heal in a cone (heal if mantra), She could bind herself to allies to buff their movement speed, enemies touching the bond were slowed (stunned if mantra). She could shield, in case of mantra therer was a powerful damaging aoe around the shield.
And last but not least, her passive was :the more damaged I am, the more AP I have.
I really liked her. Her mana costs were way too high though.
Karma never had a stun on her W, it only slowed enemies and sprinted allies. Mantra increased the slow/sprint.
It was such an underwhelming ability, it was absurdly hard to use offensively, as the damage only applied to enemies passing THROUGH the beam, but not the main target, and even then the damage wasn't that high, and the extra slow on mantra wasn't really worth it.
What I really LOVED about old karma was the huge ass shield, which you could max to get a huge shield with huge damage at the same time! you could shield minions for free damage too, and both the shield and the damage had really high base damage and ratio (0.8 AP ratio, the same as Ekko's W, but spammable).
Supports used to be ward bots in the past, and mages used to be more damage oriented and had huge AP ratios, but if old karma was released nowadays, she could be kinda useful.

At least there are more mana regen items to start with than there were at that time. Karma's main problem wasn't her kit, it was her incredible mana hunger that gimped her early game. I she was released now, she would be playable.
How I miss those fans. :(
Her kit was still a big problem. It was questionably good as a support, and questionably good as a mage- not really excelling at either role. To be honest, old mage Karma's biggest benefit was that since virtually no one ever played her since she was considered trash tier often her opponent didn't knew what her abilities were and what they did. But that hurt support Karma her allies also didn't know how she worked (i.e. speed boost by walking through her w tether).
That said I agree with the changes in items and how support is played a kit like old Karma's would probably be more successful now.

She was always "playable", but tbh even if prework Karma were released today, I don't think she'd be making waves.
As gas been mentioned before, Karma's old W was terrible. It had poor readability, low MS stat boosters (Max Speed boost was 20% at max rank w/o Mantra, and a mere 40% with) The damage was clunky and Karma had no real way to make the ability function without putting herself at incredible risk for very little reward. While her passive was really fun to play around, It also made a really odd situation wherein enemies were punished HEAVILY for hurting her, as her mantra E did massive damage and had an immensely powerful shield to boot. If Karma's kit were to be buffed to "viability" under the old system she would have been too overbearing and would have to be nerfed anyway.
Likewise compare her old kit to supports now adays, Bard, Tahm Kench, Braum, THRESH (God can you get a more sue support lol). Even with an amp'd up version of her old kit she'd fall behind the times to what new champions can do, and in her old form she didn't really have a well defined niche aside from SHIELD BOMB.
Now don't get me wrong, i loved old Karma, and i still love her. But the kit she has now is much easier to balance, and is much healthier for her as a champion. While i so miss the ability to heal allies (Rito a healing mantra would be dope, maybe tie it to allied W2?) I think that Karma came out of her rework for the better and she still retains much of what made her unique. W2 is a master baiting tool, E2 is a much cleaner/powerful variant of her old allied W mechanic, and her passive mechanic let's her use her more amp'd up mantras often enough that the loss of double mantra isn't as bad.
That noted i do miss fans lol. They should make their appearance in her Dance taunt more spammable :P. Karma has no good emote spams.
Oh, so buff him even more.

That would be a buff to Thresh. Why the fuck would you buff Thresh when he's the most picked champion in the game.
Yeah, just thought it would make more sense in terms of theme. Balance wise, it would be stupid.
you dont need to beild ap because he gains it from souls its supposed to be a small buff to his skills over time rather than building raw damage
He gets the ap so that his spells scale in power with souls collected
Well, what do you expect? In this meta people throw as many easy tank/bruiser champs in as many lanes as they can for easier wins. Thresh actually requires quite a bit of skill to play properly though. However, his kit is utility that other supports can't compete with. He has a grab that he can use to initiate, he can pull teammates towards him with his lantern,he has a slow/knock-up that is easily chain-able with his other abilities (didn't even notice the pun but I'm keeping it), and a 99% slow that can proc 5 times. His kit is all the peel and initiate that people want on a support but only because that would be overpowered and give them a lot more influence over the game than any other champ. I'm not really complaining that thresh is OP, I just want to see a bit more variety in supports.
Thresh's pickrate has nothing to do with the meta, he has been this way as long as he has been around I believe, or at the very least as long as I've been playing (2 years). He is picked because he works decently well with any adc and teamcomp and is fun. If you want to see less thresh play botlane and choose combos like
/
,
/
,
/
,
/
etc. All these combos can pretty much beat any thresh lane because he doesn't really counter any strategy and is just an all around generalist.
agreed, except for karma. I've played her and she is anything but weak
Build Sona with ap and it still works out.

Sona needs some power adjustments and Taric is getting a Sion level rework. From what I heard Karma was in a EU LCS match and won.
Thresh has been top tier support since his release because his kit is overloaded with utility.
He is long overdue for some minor nerfs.
Which he already got multiple times.
Why exactly is he overdue for nerfs? He's one of the few champions in the game who requires a high level of skill to play properly. If he is carrying his team to that big V, then it's on the merit of his summoner's skill and nothing else. Alistar, Bard, Braum, Nautilus and Nunu are all just as strong in the support role, imo. I think you're misplacing your frustrations on how inadequate AP supports are compared to tanky supports.
I will concede that he out-classes many other supports, but that is only because a lot of those supports fall off once the laning phase ends and that is where Thresh really starts to shine. Thresh was built to win games and he synergizes with the new changes to Talisman, Righteous Glory and the utility tree masteries much better than the other supports because he was built to function solely on MS, HP and CDR (all very cheap stats). AP supports don't want to buy Talisman or Righteous Glory and those items are just too important in helping your team engage or disengage. There's a reason Sivir is basically 100% pick/ban in competitive. I'd rather see them buff the other supports and support items before they nerf Thresh. He's in a really good place as it stands.
How is thresh's kit any better than
? Counting his hook thresh has 2 displacement abilities, 2 slows, small damage amp for poke and a tool that pulls a teammate to him. Naut has 2 displacements (one of which is undodgeable), a root, a slow, a damage amp that helps his all-in engage, and a shield that is actually noticeable and gives him innate tankiness, a stat thresh lacks until he gets a lot of souls.
Both can use their hooks as an engagement tool or as an escape. Both can use their slows as either part of their engagement lockdown or as a disengage tool.
The main difference is that Naut can lock a target down for longer and more reliably, whereas thresh can provide his team with a bit more mobility with his lantern. This makes thresh get picked more often because mobility is always somewhat useful, whereas more lockdown is a lot more useful sometimes, and less useful at others. This all highlights why thresh is the way he is. He is never a bad pick, but he is rarely the best one, and his stats show it because although he has 34% pick rate, his winrate is always at around 50% or below, whereas Naut has had a 10% pick rate and above a 50% win rate for awhile (5.8 is the farthest back I bothered to look stats up for).
Thresh just needs a nerf to his damage. He does WAY too much for the insane amount of utility he has in his kit.
that's how a support should be, he should be able to 1v1 a carry in early game. AND that's why other supports sucks, because sona'dmg got nerfed taric can do nothing and braum's dmg got nerfed (passive and Q).
thresh is fine as you can see his win rate isn't above 50%. And when i play against him i always outplay him.
AND that's why other supports sucks
Can't hardly duel minions early game anymore (thank Riot).
Still has one of the highest win rates in the game.
you didn't see a janna poking with a shield didn't you? pros take attack speed marks shield themeselves get 150/200 hp shield and 40 AD.
you will always win a trade
no they don't rofl
his winrate sucks because everybody and their sucky little brother plays him
Thresh just needs a nerf to his damage. He does WAY too much for the insane amount of utility he has in his kit.
I don't see why people are downvoting you, He Does do way too much damage for the amount of utility in his kit, but that's his strength that sets him apart from other utility supports like blitzcrank and leona.. oh wait. Nevermind they do way too much damage too xD. Ok nevermind that, I feel what sets thresh apart and what gives him his good utility and damage is because of his passive. his ap given from his passive lategame while building full tank is what gives him his edge. Make the ap give .5 from each soul and buff armor to .8 if you want to just try to balance around his passive. not his ratios
It's up at 50% in diamond.
XD I just made a post about him
I just wish Thresh had to pay for his kit's versatility.
He doesn't just have a hook, he has a hook with the option of whether he wants to also use it for a gapcloser. He doesn't just have lantern, he has lantern with a shield. He doesn't just have an AOE knockup/slow, he has one with a passive that gives him strong harass on autos. The box does metric fktons of damage, and what's he give up for all of this?
At least he's melee
Nope, he has range and can poke.
But hey, at least he has to last hit properly to proc relic shield, he can't execute with it... except the passive on his E makes it easier.
;~;
...which destroys his ability to harass. He's better off with coin now that it is actually decent.
He really doesn't do that much damage by himself, he depends on someone else doing it. Try to finish off someone at 10% hp sometime, you'll be surprised. He is quite squishy until he builds a bunch of items, which will take a long time, because he's a support. Although he is ranged, he's quite short ranged. His hook is slower than Blitz's, and can't pull the enemy all the way to you (you can go to THEM but that's much riskier for you and not as bad for them).

I think that's a great comparison.
Can we nerf the range on (W) Lantern, thx, oh and the % slow on his R too.
The only annoying thing about Thresh is when the jungler/mid decides to camp bot. Those lantern ganks are pretty OP. Apart from that, I can safely say that I've never lost a lane against a Thresh if it's a 2v2 for the most part. I don't think he needs a nerf.
I don't think Thresh is OP, or underpowered for that matter. He's just really hard to use properly.
Thresh is in my opinion very team-reliant and requires a good bit of practise, as opposed to simple supports like Alistar which can just walk up and smash people while tanking massive damage with Unbreakable Will.
It's too bad because I love playing with and against Thresh, but it's good to see old supports get a bit more popular.
My problem with thresh is how much damage he does. If his botlane gets fed and he is a couple levels ahead of the others in the lane he can easily 1v1 the adc. This for me is a problem he shouldn't be able to build tank yet still deal damage and have utility.
34% is high, but his winrate is actually pretty much spot on 50%. He is picked a lot because he's a fun and flexible pick that works with pretty much any teamcomp and any adc.
Yea, but once things become common enough, players naturally will move toward the champions that are strong against it. For Thresh to maintain a 50% winrate with such a high pickrate means a lot more than a lesser-played support having that same 50% winrate. I think his flexibility is a large part of it, but I also think he's too strong at too many things rather than excelling in a niche like other supports do.
You're right that for a support like thresh a sub 50% winrate would be better, but people treat thresh as a major problem of the game, which I disagree with. Unlike a lot of other champs thresh being picked a lot doesn't hurt the game, because he doesn't have an unhealthy play pattern, and thresh being a common pick doesn't make anyone else any worse of a pick. Thresh being picked by the other team every game doesn't hurt my choices. League has a lot of issues that make the game worse to play (useless champions, toxic players, toxic champion play patterns) but Thresh isn't really one of them.
+1 for the content of this post.
And IMO I'm glad I don't see threah every game, it was getting old
