Ranking System

Riot, you really need to fix the ranking system. I'm pretty much quitting ranked because I play ranked because I want to see how good I can do, but although I feel my play has drastically improved from last season to this, I have actually dropped a division from silver 4 to silver 5 and am currently playing Bronze 2's because of my MMR. Let me tell you something. You're ranking system has nothing to do with how good each individual summoner actually is. It has to do with what kind of teammates you are stuck with and how good the enemy team is. You're ranking system is focused around if you can carry 4 bad teammates or if the enemies are just better as a team.

We shouldnt be able to lose LP because a game was close. If my team gets both nexus turrets down but somehow manages to lose the game, why does that take away 20LP? Close games like that you should only lose ~10. I've won games in which I've done bad, I've lost games in which I've done good, but it always seems like it is just too hard to improve ranking unless you deserve to be 2 tiers higher than you are. Even if you get to promotion series, it just adds more pressure on you and you probably won't win it. Besides to get to the promo series you have to win pretty much 2 games in a row. What are the odds of winning even more games in a row?

You just contradicted yourself. You state that their ranking system is not based on individual skill and yet you state that their ranking system is focused on how well one can carry their teammates.

Here is an example of a game I just played in which I did good and it was close yet I still lose LP because of one slight misplay by my team (and a Sion who tried pushing bot lane out while they killed our nexus....)

Thats a bad mentality for climbing. You are focused on your teams mistakes not yours. Think about what you could have done to win instead? There is surely something you did wrong as well.

I started in season 3 got placed in bronze 5 made it to silver 5 by end of season. Season 4 I made it to Silver 1. Got placed gold 4 this season and now I'm one game away from plat promos. I've played for almost three years and I saw myself rapidly improving this last month in particular. You will climb when you get better and your goal should be to improve while playing. I'm not trying to be on a high horse, but when I look back to last season when I was in mid silver I was really bad compared to how I play now and the results of my improvement is I'm a whole tier above last season.

Individual play is important, but keep in mind this is a TEAM game. How well you interact with, coordinate with and play with your team is also part of the equation. That said, there are always ways in which you can improve your own play to increase your chances of winning. Sometimes it is the luck of the draw with teammates, but keep in mind the law or large numbers. If you are always consistent and play above your MMR level, you will eventually get to where you actually are supposed to be placed. Don't focus on rank, or how bad your team is - focus on how you can improve your own play and your team coordination (where possible. We all know there are others who refuse to listen no matter what.)
