Rune Refunds: Unpopular Opinion

I, for one, feel it was useful to have runes for my 4 years of playing League, and it would not have been worth it to play without runes for 4 years just so I could have a little more IP when this system changes. People are acting selfishly by wanting full refunds. I only have about 30 champions left to buy (starting in Season 3), and I haven't used RP on a single champion. Players who claim to be from Season 1 are wanting full refunds, even though they likely own all if not most champions in the game.

Also, you have been rewarded in game for having runes every game you use them. Many people are using the same logic as the person who wears a t-shirt for 3 years, then goes back to the store and tries to refund it because it doesn't fit anymore (There are people that try this btw). But it does not make any sense

Thanks in advance for the downvotes!

Every item eventually has an expiration date, becomes obsolete, or breaks. Old items are almost never sold for more than 10% of their original price. I don't get pissed off about needing my phone upgraded after a few years even after spending $500 on it. I don't know why people are so mad about this.

You are only going to farm upvotes because of the new players that don't have access to all content.

was not afcking reward was a deal, spend ip=use runes in game

if we get new FREE RUNES? I'm saying FREE it means we don't have to pay anything, but right now old players are paying the IP that disappearing into old runes

that doesn't make a single sense, the T shirt of the store aren't being free for everyone else that didn't spend money to buy them get your facts right

This is a shit argument. I'm sorry but it is.

Runes are MANDATORY. Understand? Without them, you'll have trouble beating fucking Bronze players!

The problem with Runes IS that they're mandatory. They're not a reward. Having a level playing field with other players should never be a reward. They're a necessity.

So please, don't use that as an argument.

No. The correct analogy is: you wear the shirt 3 years then the seller asks it back and offers you 10% of the original price in return.

Actually, I think the people who get f-cked over the hardest are people like ME, who started in the middle of League's life (I started playing in Season 5 pre-season) and spent RP, or had to do some SERIOUS IP grinding, to be able to play competitively with their friends.

I don't have all the content, am STILL having to make hard decisions about what I want to spend IP on (well, not now that I know runes are going away) and the only reason I have CLOSE to a full account's-worth of content is because I SPENT REAL MONEY THAT I EARNED WORKING AT A JOB to buy champions and IP boosts. My games in my elo are very much affected by people's rune pages, people in my elo still say "don't have that champion" in RANKED, which Riot ENCOURAGES US TO PLAY.

I don't have oodles and oodles of IP sitting around, I don't own every champion, I don't own every rune. But I spent money, time and a lot of effort and patience getting into this game, which Riot admits has a steep learning curve, to play Ranked, which Riot encourages us to play. And I DID it because I thought I was making an investment on a life-long hobby... WHICH RIOT SAYS THEY WANT THIS GAME TO BE! Like f-cking basketball!

So how does the company that wants its playerbase to 1.) keep playing 2.) bring in new players 3.) pass its game down to friends and family members 4.) keep spending money on skins 4.) play ranked 5.) tolerate the insane learning curve and toxic environment treat its playerbase? Its playerbase that has been around the longest/invested the most time and money into the game?

It gives them a fraction of that time, effort and money back. It's just... poor form, and it feels like a shafting.

i always felt that runes where an annoying thing i had to farm to be relevant and when i was farming them i was thinking how they made the game unbalanced by being so high in price (both runes and runepages) and i never liked farming for them, and i never liked them.

so, you see how i can be upset about the refund price of something basically mandatory that i never liked?

I just don't like the blatant favoritism shown to new players. There's ZERO reason for riot to not just give a fair refund to everyone regardless of when they bought their runes. Those of us who have been playing forever went through the same problems that new players were dealing with when it comes to runes. We had to sink ip into our runes and put off getting new champs just like anyone else. Just because it happened sooner doesn't mean it didn't happen and it didn't suck. I don't know who at riot thought the whole reduced refund thing up but they had to realize that people would get pissed off about it. Especially when they also are giving us stuff to spend the ip on. I just don't understand the thought process behind that decision.

Its not that us older players got more value out of our runes, its that we had to put up with the bullshit rune system for much longer. And if anything shouldn't they be rewarding their old players for being so loyal for so long not punishing them?

Why can't riot just take the fair route the first time around? Why do we have to get up in arms just to try and fix such a simple issue? Why?

But did you buy them because you wanted them, or because they were mandatory to compete with others?

The analogy also doesn't work, because you bought the shirt acknowledging that it might not fit if you put X pounds 3 years later. There was no 'this feature may be removed' when you bought runes 3 years ago.
