Rengar. What are we going to do.

Håppy··3 votes·898 views

Bit of a quick-pre-game rant post. I just had the pleasure of facing a Rengar top, and wound up dying level 1. Why? Well, because he got 5 ferocity from bush q'ing, then jump on me, got the insta-thunderlords (which deals more than ignite by the way), and flashed after me for the kill. Okay, that's normal, right? Why is that normal? Why can a champion have so little counterplay as to be able to 100-0 you at level 1? What are you going to do, poke him out? Out sustain him at level 1? And things only get worse as he levels up and gets a.. heal... snare... stealth.. Sure, get a pink ward for limited vision of him, so that you can actually see your death before it pounces all over you. It's a bit ridiculous.

Maybe I'm just bad. Or maybe Rengar's just broken, and needs to be looked at. Constructive discussion below, please, instead of the usual "you're bad, stop playing, learn the champion"? What can I do? How do I stop ta Rengar from getting 5 ferocity, and am I just supposed to recall when he does?

  1. Start with item 1029 first item and 4x item 2003
  2. Don't stand by the bush, with no trophies at lvl 1, his bush leaps are pretty short.

Why do people keep using 100-0 which means instant kill and then describing what sounds like a lengthy engagement? If you're in top lane, you should be able to farm away from the shrubs he's in so he can't pounce to you.

Håppy2 votes

More than once I've watched him walk out of a brush and then pounce, it's a pretty terrible bug that makes Rengar way too strong. It's not just a lengthy engagement either, since he can double Q for more than half your hp and then aa you the rest of the way down, flash-following you.

Do you have any idea how that ability actually works? I am giving you a chance to take back what you are saying here without calling you an idiot first

This guy must not have seen rengar when he came out then they buffed him XD

yes, no, its really just because you are bad. but its very considerate of you to care about rengar. worry not, hes fine.

i dont know what champion you played but one thing you can do is play a strong champion who can simply punish rengar whenever he tries to cheese-stack ferocity and push him in.

Yeah, but.. you're not giving any examples, helping me, or anything like I've asked. All you really did was dismiss my entire thread just to call me bad.

well if someone simply asks for help without crying about OP, its much more fun to actually help. try playing garen, renekton or darius against him.

Håppy1 votes

I'm talking in general. I don't want to play only Garen, Renekton or Darius, I want to play the champs I like top lane - Udyr, Illaoi, Poppy, Gangplank. I didn't call OP, I called frustration and ridiculous early damage. On top of that, I asked for actual constructive help, which you either ignored or skipped over because you saw a complaint about the champion and jumped to his defense. So I'm not at all likely to take you seriously nor correct.

Are you playing blind pick or Ranked(or Draft)? If its blind pick you must take what you can get. If its draft or rank you just counter pick and if your not sure where he is going pick a champ who can top or jg so you can switch out.

Håppy1 votes

Yes, it's blind pick normals. So, let me get this straight - In order to properly lane against a Rengar, I need to pick one of three champions, and if I don't, gg or switch lanes? That's a bit of a sign that he's broken. I don't see where your "he's fine, he doesn't need any help" is coming from. I mean.. you're right, he doesn't need help, he needs to get a knee broken so he isn't leaping across the lane from outside of a bush because the bush mechanic doesn't instantly update.

Na You can beat him to with many champs, the reason your having a problem is that you do not encounter rengar top enough to know how to play against it.

Udyr shouldn't have problems with Rengar if you're playing right.

Illaoi is kind of weak until she gets her first couple items. Her damage is so high that you can just rush armor against him and then outscale him. Rush Sunfire or Iceborn Gauntlet and then Spirit Visage. Enjoy him not being able to get near you unless he wants die. Do not rush Black Cleaver unless you're 100% certain you won't die to him.

GP you just farm under tower and outscale him.

No idea about new Poppy.

Baunjo1 votes

That logic is very flawed. Certain champions simply do better against you than others, a champion like rengar happens to dumpster gangplank and udyr, not sure about illaoi and i dont know whether you mean old or new poppy.

You cannot play a champion against someone who counters you unless you are substantially better than them. That has nothing to do with balance, that is just how the game works.

Baunjo2 votes

Not a good way to deal with a post. " Well sorry but you are wrong because you're bad. " Does not help anyone.

And rengar is definitely not fine, Riot cannot balance champions with invisibility for shit.

AyRe CoNteMpT1 votes

you cant play against champions with invisibility for shit, it seems.

Me personally?

Rengar is strongest early, when everyone is weak. As the game goes on everyone cept squishies gets too tough for him to kill.

Just be more cautious early before you start gaining your defenses.

Step 1 to beating rengar

Don't let him free trade you

His strength is in burst, losing half your hp seems like a wtf moment but that's his damage for the next 4 seconds all unloaded into 1 second, kite his burst, don't stand close enough to a brush for him to Q onto you, make him have to jump a minion first, giving you more reaction time to escape his burst and then win the trade

Håppy1 votes

Thanks, I'll be sure to try that!

Just gotta watch out for his out-of-brush jump. That's a nifty bug.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

they need to set a time restriction on his hopping. once every 10 seconds sounds fair.

Baunjo1 votes

Who were you playing at what items did you start?

Veraska1 votes

I feel ya, counterpicks are bad answers when you play blind pick, however if you happen to like jax (his hardest counter and is strong right now) I recommend playing him if you specifically wanna fuck over a rengar by chance

Some good options against rengar that most champs can pull is to get him under tower, he can't gap close without brush and he sucks at farming under tower due to his lack of wave clear.
