Asking for permission to play off-meta

SnakDatSmilesBak··3 votes·349 views

I'm seeing this come up more and more and since I personally play off-meta a lot it affects me a lot. I'm talking about ranked in each of these questions.

1)Do you think players who play off-meta should have to (notice I said have to as in they must) ask permission from their team to play off-meta?

2)Do you think off-meta players must be compliant and not go off-meta in ranked if their teammates don't want them to?

3)Do you think off-meta players must explain how their pick works so that their team can work with it?

4)Do you think if off-meta players fail to do any of the above (if you voted yes to any of those questions) then they can be reported?

I feel like that nunu smite support thing a while back left a lot of mystery surrounding off-meta picks in ranked and it's time to clear some of it up.

Turns out the poll doesn't work the way I thought it did but you can still answer one of the questions, just pick your favorite. I suggest answering the first.

All you need to do is communicate it with your team in champselect Or get a premade of 5 who are all down with it Thats how I got mastery 5 on braum, got a premade and went attack speed on hit braum And when I did kayle I went ad crit jungle I had no grenade so I just tile my team what I was doing and role them it might be garbage but they seemed cool just don't to raneed amd if you do draft you might have some people flame you so my advice would be blind pick

Can you elaborate on what you mean by communicate?

As soon as you get your role say something like "Hey guys I'm planning on going attack speed jayce adc I'm just letting you know so that my pick dosent seem weird to you if it goes badly just remember its a normal and we won't lose anything" If you want just toss something about a ff@20 if you go 0-10

Thanks for your opinion. However, I meant to discuss opinions about ranked. Can you tell me how your opinions would change, if they'd change at all, considering this is about ranked now?

Play it a few times in normals to have it I'm your match history then keep the link to that from something like na.op.gg or lolking then just say that you have proof it works and link them

I'd also ensure there were some losses in that record in which u perform consistently. If you're good with the pick it at least shows that THAT pick did not lose the team the game.

Otherwise many see a winning streak as simply that. Lot's of matches won followed by a lovely losing streak

Yea in 100% for that it shows that you are committed to the pick, and its not just a few lucky wins in normals where the off meta pick works. If I looked up some guy telling me that hes the best ad jungle twisted fate, and he had a total of 4 games in a row and nothing else past that of the supposed "new best thing" I would be seriously questioning it. Where as someone telling me that ap poppy mid is the new thing to do and their match history contained one thing, I would lean towards the poppy

Ok, that's only a partial answer tbh.

Doesn't explain what happens when, in the game it doesn't work, people decide to say you're trolling and report you.?

Eventually those reports stack up.

Yup this happens a lot in the rare case I play poorly. Stuff like this is what I'm unsure about and want to clear up

I find it to be very situational. "Off Meta" and "being different with a poor strat" is different. I personally have been jungling Leona since Season 3 on two accounts, got to plat on two of them back then due to it, so I am fine with off meta as long as it's something that can function or the person has a clear strategy that isn't actually setting the team back. Although, something like refusing Sightstone as a support, or picking a champion that is all around hopeless in another role unless your team stomps is something I would say no to unless you're in a premade. Any of my "off meta trolling" (like Lux, Urgot, Zyra, etc jungle) have been with premade groups.

Riot's stance is doing things different is okay, as long as you communicate with your team, and it's not something that ruins the match for your team even if you're winning a lot. Someone played Singed support and basically farmed in the enemy jungle and roamed, forcing the ADC to 1v2, he won enough to get plat but was temporarily suspended multiple times simply because forcing 1 person on the team into basically not playing felt bad for that 1 person even if they did win.

I see, what you say makes sense. Can you elaborate on communicate? I want to find out how much communication people expect.

Since the game doesn't offer any clue as to what's meta, I would vote no for all those questions.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

While it's pretty easy to figure out what's meta and even easier to figure out what's not meta, I get what you're saying.

no to all, as long as they play to their role. worry about your own game not the other persons before game even starts
