Idk what these people saying you "have to pick fill or support" are on, it has always been 2 games of autofill protection after getting autofilled. I don't know how afk'ing affects your protection though, that seems like the type of thing that would make you lose it.
You have to choose the auto-fill role. You don't get protection if you simply get stuck filling.
you have to choose either "fill" or "support" specifically. for some reason it dosent count if they just stick you with it
