Will it be Skarner Sejuani or Sejuani Skarner

LCS is so exciting

Why did Skarner become so nutty out of nowhere?

I remember in like the first 2 weeks of LCS there was no Skarner, now he's everywhere.

He got buffed

Yep. E stun duration went from 1s -> 1.5s. This is an extremely synergistic change for his kit.

Aside from how strong +50% CC is, his E stun duration increases his E CDR procs as well as his passive bonus uptime. Now you can E twice in the main part of a fight, and your passive gives you much higher DPS and movespeed to reach the carry.

He got huffed recently and also predator helps him a lot in catch potential.

Water Walking and Celerity. Also predator to a degree.

Pairing all that with his passive, he can just build full tank and run at you.

And unless you want to blow your CC on a tank, there's nothing you can do about it as he runs up to you at mach 15, and ults you into his team.

He forces you to either expend sums or CC to prevent your death, and if you have neither, you are a free kill post 6.

It's annoying, but it works. Skarner deserves at least a LITTLE time in the limelight, so as much as I hate this tactic, I can't bring myself to hate him.

I main Yorick , so I know how it feels to be so underwhelming for so long.

1,5 stun instead of 1 and increase damage on his E base mana increase from 272 to 320 and a big Base health regeneration increased to 9 from 8.928 which is the biggest buff of all .

the projectile on the E is really slow and the movement speed buff isn't better than a gap closer the damage on his Q is quite small unless you have items build on him it's quite small compared to most. They probably playing him because he's safe, it's the reason i play him. I started playing him when the Warwick and shyvana crazed happened i was able to defend the jg on my own or at least hold out long enough for laners to come in. Worse came to worse i was able to escape running. You can also QSS out of his ult making it entirely useless and too dangerous for him to cross enemy lines to catch you.

Myozthirirn5 votes

QSS is a good counter, yes. It also cost a lot of gold, the skarner tax.

Yeah but when I gank toplane with Phase Rush and approach velocity and double buff before 3 minutes, it feels really unfair. I mean I know they bring unsealed spellbook in the LCS, but why would you bring that? It's boring. I've been playing skarner a lot lately, and he snowballs really really well, and can just go straight tank if you need him to. Also #1 rule: NEVER FACETANK HIM.

Titanium1251 votes

Then again, every jungler pretty much ganks toplane before three minutes lvl 3 and with double buffs, so maybe it's just that. He's got really fast clear and can make the other jungler's life a nightmare if he's ahead. His lack of dashes is usually made up for how fast he can get (At least with my runes and usual build.) But he gets caught out really easily and relies on his team if he's behind. (Seeing as you should be going straight tank if you screw up the early game.)

he's also pretty safe. You can actually turn off his passive and unlike some oppressive junglers Warwick Shyvana Udyr that feel like the whole map is their jungle he has clear weaknesses. What you say can be said pretty much for Volibear as-well they're just not playing him because well probably cause of the hard CC he is lacking and no ranged attacks. And it depends who facetanks him. Warwick and Udyr can. In fact don't face tank them using skarner.

Lastly skarner is a team player. For example he really can't kill you with his ult only drag you away and hit you with his Q which does little damage so his team mates have to kill the victim for you. Also his stun too. Skarner unless he scales with items can't really kill anyone unless they commit to fighting him. Which is why the stun is strong imo because it gives team mates too much time to kill the victim if it's just skarner on his own then it's not really much. Basically in the end anyone can snowball if they are ahead, some champions scale if the match last long enough example Nocturne Skarner Hecarim but thinking of those 3 which one is the weakest? Skarner is he really unfair when you can shut off his passive that's not even broken, deny his ult, and dodge his slow projectile stun? I don't think so when there's a champion that get's fed on you being low health that has gap closing suppression with no counter besides him missing.

The slower the game becomes the higher chances of skarner going balistic with his ult & max CDR/600 MS dragging you into his team.

Nerfs to DMG keystones helped a lot, if you cannot duel skarner while he's on his spire you're giving him too much control over the game.

YuGiHo2 votes

there is no ap upgrade for qss so he effective kill an item slot of any ap champ on the enemy team. and since they build it pretty early having that qss in their inventory gimps their early game by a significant amount.

Fedoran5 votes

Skarner’s increased stun time on his E (to 1.5 seconds) gives him a new combo: E+R+E. The stun lasts long enough paired with R that with CDR you can get E back up as R ends, making a really effective chain CC

We're likely to need to nerf Skarner at some point in the future - but I certainly don't think we're talking about a gutting. We'd already been talking about keeping a fast followup changelist of his stun scaling from 1-1.5 on his E when we shipped his buffs on 8.1, or normalizing it to 1.25 seconds or something like that.

Ah Skarner is in the gutter for a year then gets buffs and needs to be nerfed AGAIN cant you guys see that stupid passive is ruining him it gives him so many free stats nerf it !

Hey, I still remember her nerfing after, what, Cinderhulk was first released? There was a patch or two where "being Olaf-ed" became "being Sejuani-ed."

Of course, that was years ago. Huh, she really does get super buffed after certain patches, huh?

Xyltin1 votes

Seju still needs a nerf, true, but she also was nerfed multiple times already.

I would likely go and remove the ability for her melee allies to stack the E for her. It makes her so good in combination with melee supports (competitive meta. With ranged supports in the meta - maybe 8.4? - she would likely lose some steam).

Painted Celt2 votes

Hey. Could Skarner get a mini-rework again? He is very frustrating to jungle against because he is extremely difficult to duel or escape if he gets any lead whatsoever. It feels like he sometimes just ends up owning both sides of the jungle and there is little that can be done about it to contest the crystal spires 1vs1. Getting teammates to help the jungler can be impossible in solo-queue, and if Skarner's teammates join in too then teamfights often feel at a disadvantage even in your own team's jungle. It feels terrible to run into Skarner as a weak jungler, because you can't fight him, you can't run from him unless you have flash and he doesn't (or you're playing something that can pass through walls), and half of your jungle will be gone even if you manage to escape.

If counterjungling is supposed to be part of Skarner's strength, then that's fine, but please make it so that it feels like it can be strategically outmaneuvered rather than Skarner just running people down. I think Skarner should have his mobility and dueling power nerfed, and he should gain a new "ambush predator" mechanic as compensation. He should be able to burrow into the ground, gaining stealth while hiding, and then should gain a short duration but large movement speed and attack speed buff when he 'leaps' out of his hole. This would match the hunting style of real life arachnids, such as the trap door spider:

https://thumbs.gfycat.com/IdioticBlondBoto-max-1mb.gif?noredirect

This mechanic would replace his passive and/or his W. I think a good way to rework Skarner would be to make it so that his passive causes him to automatically burrow after standing still for a few seconds, similar to Teemo's passive. Where there are currently crystal spires, there could be buried sources of crystal energy which Skarner can burrow into in order to gain regeneration while stealthed. Skarner's W could be heavily nerfed but granted a special interaction with burrowing, where if Skarner casts W while burrowed, he leaps out in a target direction and deals damage where landing or passing through enemy units, gaining bonus shield based on damage dealt (increased ratio vs champions and epic monsters).

This would feel fairer in my opinion and would be a lot more interesting than just charging in and locking down an opponent. The Skarner player would feel like he/she outsmarted the opponent if they succeed. If Skarner's opponent predicts the ambush and avoids where the Skarner has burrowed, then the Skarner's time is wasted so it allows his opponents to strategically outplay the mechanic. Other than ambushing players, Skarner would use the ambush stat buffs to make clearing the jungle more effective. Skarner could also burrow somewhere near the dragon/baron pit and then leap out for a steal attempt.

Laying in ambush somewhere could be a risky action because it would allow the enemy to surround Skarner, but the W leap + shield could be used as an escape + survival option in that case rather than an engagement tool.

SweedishGunner1 votes

Scorpions don't leap though, they don't tend to be as fast as spiders either.

Speaking as someone who owns both as pets, Scorpions are much more content simply lying in wait. Prey items are never as scared of scorpions as they are of spiders, it's weird.

Banazîr Galbasi1 votes

I would prefer if he didn't have to deal with his spires at all. Right now he's strong, but in the past he's always been pretty restricted by either being on a spire or not. He's always been one of my favorite champions but he's so hard to use to climb when he has a 45% winrate like he's had in the past. Adding a dash to Skarner won't help anything, it will just increase the problem of mobility creep and ruin the identity of Skarner as a champion who chases you down relentlessly.

Painted Celt1 votes

I don't like the spires either, because they make it so that you have pretty much one of two cases: 1) Skarner is strong enough that you can't keep him from activating spires in your jungle, so he takes over your jungle and will run you down if you so much as step a toe into your own jungle; 2) Skarner is weak so that he can't take over your jungle, so he's just a generally inferior champion who can't do much but run at people and die.

Adding a dash to a mechanic that requires a player to stand still and prepare an ambush ahead of time doesn't add to mobility creep, since it is very situational mobility that is unusable in combat, unusable for traveling more quickly around the map, and I also suggested nerfing Skarner's other mobility as compensation. Also, having an identity of "runs you down and perma-CCs you" is bull shit. If he's going to perma-CC you then he needs a condition that involves him out-maneuvering you strategically, not simply being faster than you because that condition doesn't offer any kind of counterplay for immobile champions that encounter him.

Sightless662 votes

Just remember: Skarner is only interesting when he's strong, so please, please don't go overboard. A balanced Skarner is a bottom-5 playrate Skarner.

Titanium1251 votes

I mean making the stun scaling makes sense, I max E first anyways so that checks out. I'm just surprised by how strong he's become after just a couple buffs.

lol he's an average jungler in solo queue. barely above 50 winrate with 4-5% pickrate. The new balance team couldn't balance their way out of a paper bag and caters so much to LCS it's pathetic.

Luckily though fortnite has been taking over league on twitch lately, better fix something fast.

Xyltin1 votes

I do think he is well scaling but doesn't need it and it is not an identity of his, so the ~1.25 sec seem to make more sense to me. Especially because he maxes the E anyways, which means a 1.1-1.5 sec stun would mostly nerf his lvl 2-6 only.

I'd personally prefer if it was 1-1.5 rather than a normalized value. Skarner is a heavy farm jungler so he needs to have good scaling to be worth it

Speaking of gutting, what about Corki? He got hit incredibly hard while he wasn't even getting banned, wasn't getting picked a lot in competitive, wasn't even performing that amazingly (~52%) etc. There was a decent amount of feedback too.

Pretty sure the only reason teams pick him is because its so easy to burst people down - his ult is just reliable pick for an easy instant kill

I feel you. Everytime I wanna play Taliyah I get anxious because I really like the champion and I would like to play her most of the time I'm mid but I cannot enjoy her without thinking "what's the point of putting effort and sometimes even buy skins for this champion if she's gonna get nerfed at least once or twice a season because of pro play?". That's absolutely annoying, this happened with my beloved Syndra too, and now she's sitting at a 46% win rate. I hate this so much...

HaIlMonitor1 votes

She was sitting around 52-54 until this patch. They didnt nerf her, just the new core items are bleh.

Swarovsko1 votes

Oh don't get me wrong I don't want to imply Taliyah is bad or anything, it just makes me anxious playing a champion (especially if this champion is usually picked in pro play at least once a season) knowing they can have the Syndra treatment because of how different a champion performs in pro play.

HaIlMonitor1 votes

Oh, I was refrencing her win rate. It dropped pretty heavily this patch because the core items are kind of so-so on her. Her two biggest weaknesses were mana and CDR, which Morello fixed better then the new items did.

She takes a lot of time to learn, but she is a blast to play to me :)

Hasn't this always been the case? It's always the same few picked for each meta for pro play.

Yes, and it goes deeper than that. The changes required to make picks varied and crazy to the point of almost every champ being worth picking in a pro setting would destroy pug play. At the end of the day, people would rather complain about the LCS being boring because Riot caters too much to PUB play than complain about Garen having a 65% win rate in Bronze-to-gold so he can be viable in the LCS.
