The algorithm you use to determine "Random" in ARAM is broken.

I have long suspected it, but it seems to have gotten significantly worse of late.

Every game has far too many of the same exact champions in them.

3 games in a row and only 3 champions out of the possible 15 variant are different?

That is statistically ridiculous. I wish I had access to the data to properly extrapolate how broken it is. I doubt riot will bother, since they ignore everything to do with ARAM, but a massive portion of your playerbase plays it more than SR.

What Galizien said, but also some people do make aram accounts. And they only buy champs that are good for ARAM on those accounts. So that's a significant contributor, I would imagine.

That's because of people dodging. I'm an ARAM-only player too (don't start going bonkers, I own every single champion), and sometimes the queue can be dodged up to 10 times in a row. We also got the "chance" to reroll our champions, so it's not a surprise to see the "broken champions" more often.

And honestly I'll stop talking about ARAM-only accounts, Riot has been ignoring us for 3 years now, we all know they exist, but people keep pretending they don't.

What bothers me the most about ARAM is that despite being a PERMANENT queue Riot refuses to do any meaningful tweaks towards making it a healthier mode, it's basically just tossed into the back and forgotten aside from the 1 time a year Riot decides to throw a bone its way. In the 4 - 5 years i've been playing ARAM i've never seen the mode as bad as it is now, the 15 min surrender option is basically useless as most games end now anywhere around 10 mins. By the time the option to surrender is there, you're already pushed into your nexus.

I seriously wish Riot would pay more attention to ARAM, it's not as if its some game mode that's only up on the weekends.

Bear in mind you SHOULD see more of certain champions than others. The reroll and trading system builds an inherent bias towards champs "Good" for ARAM.

Yeap and I've been saying this for months. There are** two ways to fix this problem** One is unrealistic: to make all champions available. It wouldn't work because Riot would lose out on money

Two is the ideal resolution: Make both teams have the same number of ranged(3), melee(2), and mixed(1). THEN it can randomize those champions.

Its not even difficult to do. Just categorize each champion as a 1 through 3 and so (example) a.) if team 1 has: 3 3 3 2 2 than team 2 has: 3 3 3 2 2

b.) randomize each champion based on 3 3 3 2 2 guidelines

Perfect solution that solves 90% of the balancing issues of ARAM

4240 total arams played on this account, a massive amount if i do say so myself, with unheard of amounts of variability.

2120 wins 2120 losses in aram for an astoundingly perfect 50.00000% win ratio, Based on those(my) stats alone its the most balanced system to ever exist in a matchmade video game.

You wont even match those numbers with a coin, or a Random Number Generator. Hell ive seen scales less balanced.

The random is fine. Your Cognitive bias isnt.

It could also explain the awkard unablanced team compositions between the 2 teams. Besides the fact that "Only Aram accounts" are allowed.

HalcyonDweller2/23/2018, 11:18:54 PM2 votes

It may be because lots of people have ARAM-only accounts, with just the S tier champions and some champions that they enjoy playing on the side.

ModAttysu The Poro2/24/2018, 2:54:38 AM2 votes

Remember; both free champs and your champions owned are in the RNG polls to get rolled. Nothing you don't own will pop up. This also means that people who make ARAM accounts, or accounts that specifically only buy the best champions for aram, will have an advantage over someone who for example owns all the champions in the game.

Though after awhile I stopped playing ARAM altogether so this could've changed. Either way ARAM isn't exactly balanced, and it's suppose to be fun and not taken seriously, but when you get like Darius against a bunch of really good ARAM champs it doesn't feel very good.

I own all champions, and I exclusively play ARAM - 5 more matches, and I got in-client matchhistory max of 20 within this patch cycle.

Want me to list the champions I see when I get the last matches? So far though, Miss Fortune, Caitlyn and Vel'koz seems to be overrepresented.

Bisaknosp2/24/2018, 4:26:47 PM2 votes

i own all champs and for some reason i get these 24/7 Annie Taliyah Sivir Nasus

I think rotating champions drop more often. Heard it and had that experience.

I have over 6k+ aram games over 5 years. Its aram account players and the reroll system. Max poke one adc and an engage tank. There ya go. The system is complete ass but thats more because the players are douchebags. People just buy brand / lux / ziggs / sona and face roll to a win.....why i dont know but it IS random but its random within the players champion pool.

Barkley2/24/2018, 6:41:31 AM2 votes

I own every champion, and have for a long long time. I buy every champion the day they come out with BE.

I haven't played ARAM recently, but I used to play it almost exclusively, and I'd say I've never played about 50-60% of the champion pool in ARAM.

AFilthyCaitMain2/24/2018, 6:51:02 AM2 votes

Someone should make a graph/chart on this. List how many times you see specific champs in 20 games.

I'm just waiting for the day I get Teemo multiple times in a row. Sadly that day has not yet come. [zombie-nunu-bummed]

Thund3r Ang3l2/24/2018, 6:38:12 AM1 votes

Once, I got Sion 3 times in a row which 2 times was without using a Reroll and the third time after using one Reroll. I didnt complain much cause Sion is really strong in this game mode but jeez.... It made me question the randomness of this gamemode.

Oh and I own more than 100 champions too...

Ratchet Fortune2/25/2018, 1:39:38 PM1 votes

I legitimately always see a Veigar on the enemy team.

Every, single, time!!

Khâmul2/24/2018, 11:47:39 AM1 votes

You forgot 2 details which may make your "analysis" wrong -Aram specific acounts -rolling the dice: people will tend to play champion they like and roll the dice on champions they dislike. which is why you tend to see aproximately the same champions
