Stop giving defensive stats and utility based off of offensive stats.
Shields that scale with AP, which raises your damage. Heals that scale with AP, which raises your damage. Slows that scale with AP, which raises your damage. Shields that scale with AD, which raises your damage.
Etc.
It's a foolish idea and mechanic for obvious reasons. You should not be getting defensive benefit from building glass cannon.
We have the mechanics for +% healing, +% shielding, etc. Use them. Stop lumping in all damage stats giving defensive benefits, this includes kits as well as items.
