Riot, pick a system for controlling Summons and stick with it.
For summons, there are basically two systems I could see that would work well.
- Have them be fully commanded by the player.
- Harder to master the champion.
- Once you have it down, you can have the summon reliably do what you want it to do.
- League has no system for doing this with multiple units.
- Have them be fully commanded by AI.
- Easier to play the champion.
- At times, frustrating when the AI won't do what you want, but this can be fixed with good AI.
Either of these systems, if properly executed, would be acceptable.
But no, that's not what happens. They either do one and fuck it up, or they do some mixture of the two and it's terrible.
I can't speak for Tibbers, since I don't play
, but I've played a good bit of other summon based champions.
Riot's full AI small units tend to be pretty OK, so I'll leave them alone.
The big summons are the bad ones.
The Maiden is fully AI controlled, and it's a pretty OK AI if you're pushing, teamfighting, or all-inning.
If you're just trying to lane with her, though, she's a suicidal maniac.
The gameplan is "convert the creep wave into Ghouls, use E to make them maul your lane opponent, rinse and repeat".
The Maiden doesn't understand this. She is stupidly aggressive.
I've had times where the Maiden ran into the enemy tower to harass my lane opponent while I'm running back towards my tower, desperately trying to make her AI realize "Oh Yorick's going away now, time to stop being T1".
Especially considering how the Maiden is super squishy at rank 1 and has no means of regaining HP, this is a massive problem.
Daisy is usually a ruly summon... unless you go too far away.
The issue with Daisy is that she has two leash ranges.
The longer one of these ranges is the "Hard Leash Range", where she will instantly snap to Ivern's location.
This is fine.
The issue is the shorter range; the "Soft Leash Range".
If Ivern commands Daisy to perform any action outside of this "Soft Leash Range", after a moment Daisy will override that command with "Return to Ivern".
Considering how Ivern is squishy as all hell and would really rather stay a healthy distance away from the fray, this is an issue.
Oh boy.
You see, I'd tell you exactly what's wrong with Morde's ghost AI... but he's so fucked up that I honestly can't tell you.
I know it's bad. You know it's bad. Riot knows it's bad.
His code is too fucked for me to piece together how the ghost interprets commands/situations.
All I can really tell is that it tries to give Mordekaiser "control" of the ghost, but the ghost (for some reason) has an AI that doesn't take full control, but will just randomly jerk on the reins if you stop commanding it for even half a second.
