My question is, is Lulu and actual viable solo laner in ranked? And if not, is she a sought after support? My damage was pretty good for a support class and tons of utility for group fights as well as amazing kiting!
I wanted to ask before I spent the RP to unlock her.

Support, she has issues with sustain lanes, she's fine otherwise. Solo lane, she crushes melees. She's weak to champions faster than her (i.e. Signed) or who can nullify her escape (i.e.: J4). She doesn't need to win her lane to be useful, as long as hypercarries see play she'll always be of use.
If you're looking for a god tier/high tier 1 champion, she's not for you. If you want a fun champion that is somewhere between low tier 1 and high tier 2 she might be worth investing into.

As long as you don't play her against sustain lanes (i.e.; Sona, Nami, Soraka) you should be fine.

It sounds good with the great autos she does and the perma slow from Q.
Lwnt1 votesWait until season 5 because mana regen is going to change because its based on a percentage of the champion base mana regen. With lulu having one of the lowest mana regen her mana regen in season 5 is going to be lower compared to season 4.

Even with the nerfs, I still play her top, mid, and support, recently I even outplayed a Fizz in mid because you can't burst down a good lulu. So even with the nerfs, I still play her in solo lane roles, give her the mana regeneration that she needs and have a blast. Ganking a lulu is a terror for the enemy jungle and so much fun for your jungler. She has everything I want in a support and meets my wants for solo laners as well. When your Q and E lands, turn em into a bunny and basic attack them until they retreat. Works like a charm. She is personally one of my favorite champions and I'm glad you enjoyed her. :)

The Mormonator1 votesI have actually never build Nasher's on Lulu so I really can't say. I mostly go for pure AP builds because I want all my other abilities to do more, whereas attack speed really only works well with her passive. And since her passive can actually be blocked by minions, I'd have to say it's iffy at best but perfect for harassment. I have but a Lich Bane on her before however and had a lot of fun with it (since her passive doesn't proc on towers the Lich Bane supplied some needed turret pressure). I've also never done the tanky build as her AP ratios are enough that her shield and ult make her a tank as it is. :)

I found a really good build that works for me in lane and in team fights, but it is really gold dependent so i run GP 10 runes and support masteries. Early levels she still pokes hard like normal and then become a meat shield during laning phase to take a few hits and CC.

SnazzyTheMister1 votesi take beef with alot of whats said here... running gp 10 runes, building roa on a support, having censer as part of a core build.
running armor quints and flat hp seals which gives you more combat stats which is important with how explosive botlane can be, gp10 runes are on the out because of how good the gold items are right now.
i personally dont like roa on support its gona take you so long to get it and then much longer to ramp up, id rather put that money into something more useful sooner.
censer is a rather weak item that i'd rather not have in one of my slots that could be used for something like a locket or a mikael's or even an ohmwrecker.
that said your build is kinda cute and different. twin shadow is an underestimated item that i wish i built more often.
when it comes to a solo lane and the ap vs tanky, building ap gives more survivablity because it gives you bigger shields. that's said sometime you just need a tank item.

Reasons for this build:
As stated is an expensive item and i don't think the gold items alone give enough gold "quick" enough. I feel once i complete i won the game. Its not a power spike in damage or utility, but a spike in durability and the ramp up is not like its game breaking.
Once i get

for durability and sustain which has given me a big impact in mid laning phase over all. During my next back on how well i did in lane i debate between completing or and for a quick roam to support our jungler.
Next is completing then mostly for the chase or disengage potential.
is a great item for chasing of course, but to use it to pop banshee veils right before a big engage is godly. Then we come down to , by this point you should have all the CD you need and can basically keep the buff on your ADC 24/7 for an extra 25% attack speed is godly. Why i do this.... In the end lulu is still a support and isn't a carry so making my carry stronger benefits me.
By End game with all the HP and AP i consider my self pretty damn tanky. Not a tank for the front line, but one that wont be bursted down by an assassin allowing me to hit abilities and to let my team follow up and Lulu is freaken fast allowing me to kite or chase almost any body in game.
Now why i don't build 
Its ohmwrecker
Not going to say this is a bad item, but it is an expensive item when i can get for sustain and better constant shields with just equal durability against over all damage.
Cheap item which is great i just never had any great success with it in bot lane or mid game and the lack of Health doesn't make the magic resist effective during the point of the game when you want it and mana isn't an issue. Love the active on it early game i just find it lacking in team fights where i'm seeing more knock ups in game now.

Salidfingers1 votes and Usually covers it. I also have points in Meditation in masteries and for end game it really isn't a issue.
Dont expect a lot of early damage on this build. Its mostly to not get bullied out and stay in lane longer. I usually pick LuLu vs Leona or Morgana. If they focuses my ADC ill burn/CC his ADC and if they focus me i am a meat shield and able to survive the exchange if I play right.
Solo Q my win rate on lulu is horrible honestly, but in duo q it is around 57% where i can communicate exchanges and make the most of my mana if you like to know.
My go to support is leona and if they pick her i try and make them suffer.
SnazzyTheMister1 votesyou must be new here. yes lulu is strong as support and a solo lane. she is a supportive mage like to orianna and similarly doenst have many bad matchups (mostly going even or better)
her biggest thing is the utility built into her kit so has lots of build paths: 40% cdr for more spell casts (q slows and w speed ups) high ap for bigger shields and ults lich bane for more burst attack speed (its important to point out that her magic damage from pix scales with ap)
she does a great job of protecting carries as a support or a mage, the advantage of being a mage is you get more gold
