Your daily reminder of how bad Zhonya's Hourglass is compared to Maw of Malmortius
Due to
having a gimmicky non-real passive making it nothing but a hyper efficient stat stick, you're paying 900 gold to turn
into
for a grand total of 5 AP plus the active. It's no wonder it feels bad to build this item when the passive from
is effectively just thrown away. Meanwhile AD champions can sit on
for most of the game which along with
make you all but invincible to AP champions.
Truthfully I'm not sure how to fix the situation. At the very least either
should come fully stacked or
should also come with an initial lockout period where the shield is inactive but I feel that in the long term
needs a huge rework to be something other than just an armor stat stick. I do have some other recommendations though:
- Increase the armor on
to 25 and reduce the passive to compensate. Okay so 30 armor was to much and everybody was building it just for the armor but it's pretty clear that 20 is too little. The defensive stats
provides should at least be on par with
.
Unrelated but other possible thoughts on AP itemization:
-
Remove 10% CDR from
and add some AP back. Part of the problem with where the game is going is the huge amount of homogenization - why must every mana item have high CDR??? That's one thing I really miss about the old mana itemization is an offering of different stat choices. -
Pleaseee fix the build path of
. I can understand the argument that allowing
to be part of the build recipe could make for a stagnant laning phase but then why not allow it to build out of
? This would make the components very slot inefficient dissuading people from just sitting on the MR components without finishing the completed item. Currently it feels absolutely terrible if you need the item for the MR but have no option but to wait until the full item is completed thanks to the screwy buildpath.
