////////// YASUO'S WINDWALL!!! THE MOST CONVOLUTED "ABILITY" IN LEAGUE /////////////////////

I have Since looked more and more into this ability, watching videos, reading wiki's and boards, and the more I read and watch the more fickle and convoluted it becomes. The amount of abilities it does and does not block requires time to learn, but isn't this a game? Aren't you supposed to be able to lock in a champ and read their abilities in game so as to learn them and know right then and there how that champ functions?

No every time a new player picks Yasuo there should be a link attatched to the description of Wind Wall showing everything it blocks and does not block so that player can feel that they were properly informed and not cheated of their time when going into the game. "Then" that player should have the option of pausing the game until they have watched the video and learned each and everything Wind Wall does and does not block so as to feel they have not denied the necessary and valuable information with which to play and compete with their new champ.

I know that sounds excessive, and honestly I love the mechanic it's one of the best in League. What I am doing is stressing a point over an ability in League of Legends. One of the most fun, most exciting, most hot shit fucking awesome.... competitive games I have ever known, that is vague enough that it is very easy to put pressure on.

What people are asking for is some understanding of what he blocks and what he doesn't. The fact that he blocks "some" but not all is confusing and requires hours of playtesting in game to learn instinctively what can and can not be blocked. There is no other mechanic like it in league, it is one of the most fun, and most impressive, but also the most confusing and convoluted.

And honestly abilities should not require watching videos and tons of play testing and reading. They should be able to be understood by reading the text given in game or the players will feel frustrated and betrayed.

So here's a suggestion? All or none? Or... what if, the Wind Wall had it's own center of gravity, and perhaps also it's own Hit Points. Then the larger, heavier, and harder the spell that was hitting it was, the faster it would break, or the further it would be pushed backward forcing more instinctive counter play on the allied team.

That way it could in fact be all or none, but the heavier spells would break if faster if perhaps the Yasuo playing currently had not chosen to level Wind Wall but other abilities instead. It might also be wise for ultimates to collapse if faster, then other things could come into play. As the Wall breaks HP could be stolen by Yasuo, or when it breaks his flow shield would strengthen for several seconds, I am sure there are many such ideas and examples.

Perhaps the hit point thing would make it too similar to Braum's shield, but what about it being physically pushed back?

Its all projectiles.

If it is not a projectile it will not block it. If it is then it will.

Thank you Merriam Webster Buddah. But........ no.

There is a list http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Yasuo/Projectiles of the "projectiles" it does and does not block.

What is. Is. What is not. Is not.

I wasn't looking for philosophy. But thank you very much.

Some of those are bugs then, because blinding Assult does get and always has been blocked by windwall

Your suggestions are far more convoluted than the current state of Wind Wall.

Why thank you :)

I love watching 1 ability completely cancel over 100 others from both ways <3 its so fucking balances.... so fucking awesome.

Like, its amazing that he can put that up and take no penalty for it completely and instantly demolishing even Ultimates. cant wait to see a Lane sized Aurelion Sol Q get demolished by a wall of breeze.

Meanwhile Braum does the same yet still takes damage, still takes CC and HARD cc such as knockbacks and stuns. Lovely as fuck...

Thank you for your..... omg, sense! Common sense! Someone posting on my thread who hasn't show up just to complain that I even posted something that should really be discussed. Thanks!

Windwall is an ability that Riot made because they could, not because they should. It's inconsistent interactions and the way it polarizes community opinions are both a reflection of this. It's never going to be intuitive without being absurdly complicated or ridiculously overbearing.

Dryditch1 votes

Are you shitting me? Yasuo's windwall stops anything but projectiles that go above the field (Ziggs, Xerath ulti) and lazers which are not projectiles (Xerath Q and Lux Ulti)

The things it does block are more ridiculous than the things it doesn't: Braum ulti, Vel'Koz W, Nami ulti. When in doubt, throw windwall.

CyJam1 votes

I find it really frustrating that it blocks Nami's ult as it leaves almost no room for counter play. Her Tidal Wave travels so slowly that if the enemy team counter pics Yasuo after Nami you are denied her ult in every team fight, and I love Nami she is one of my favorite champs :/

And yeah, why does it block Braum's ultimate that's ridiculous. But at least Braum's ult happens fast enough that he might pull it off before he can be countered. Nami's Tidal Wave is just so slow that it becomes an uninteresting easy counter. Yasuo into Nami games get boring pretty fast.

And also, the fact that it doesn't block lazers makes zero sense to me as well. Lazers are definitely projectiles.

They are lazers, but if you watch Star Wars for about two minutes you'll see that lazers are projectiles too.

Dryditch1 votes

If your knowledge of lasers is based on Star Wars, stop playing League and go educate yourself.

CyJam1 votes

So you are saying lazers are "not" projectiles? Why? What is it about them that is not "projected" like every other form of matter shooting through the air and sky? They are plasma, they are energy, they are also "projectiles".

Dryditch1 votes

Xerath Q and Lux Ult pass through Yasuo wall because they follow a similar principle to real lasers--they begin and end at fixed points. In the case of lux, a superheated beam is materialized along its intended path, and then air is heated around it to create plasma. That beam which manifests is not a projectile and therefore is not blocked.

Xerath Q operates according to a similar principle. Not sure exactly why it doesn't classify as a projectile, but I assume it has to do with the fact that it is connected to him .

CyJam1 votes

You shouldn't need to reach so far to keep your faith in silly video game logic intact.

It matters not if it has a fixed point. It is still in the air, it is still projected. Even if all of it's "projection" happens in one place at the same time.

CyJam1 votes

Oh and no, they don't follow any principle similar to real lasers. Lux and Xerath did not receive doctorates in plasma physics, they use magic. The processes you are describing require modern technology, but they don't use those they are wizards just casting spells. Which makes their lasers closer to Star Wars than comparing them to our science. So, magic not plasma, get it?

Well I wouldn't expect Dashes to be blocked. But it seems silly that Maokai's bombs and Elise's spiders can walk through it, but not Graga's rolled barrels or Azir's sand soldiers. Or Kassadin's cone attack or Cho's silence or Kayles ranged attack. Seriously it's all over the place. If you were new enough to him he would still feel frustrating and there aren't many champs that bring that to the game.

I would end this suffering, but it always returns.

Every one of your examples makes perfect intuitive sense to me.

Why thank you very much Quepha ^^ I put a lot of thought into what I write.

This is ignorance by you because Cho and Kassa skills are AoE and instantaneous (thought the visual might be misleading) the same as Morde E.

Spiderlings and seedlings are units (this is more hidden as knowledge) and thus aren't subject to many things concerning skills.

I meant the polar opposite of what you think I did.

Polar, so cold. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr::::::::::::::::::shiver::::::::::::brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

But the Cho'Gath and Kassadins skills in question are still "projected"

That's not a thing. AoE's don't have a point of origin, just a defined area within which they have an effect on valid targets.

CyJam1 votes

I understand they don't have a point of origin "in the game", and how it's coded. But visually their point of origin is the champion casting that ability and the area outward from them to which that ability reaches.

Not gonna lie, don't have the patience to watch the whole thing. Of what I watched, however, there was exactly one thing I think that was inconsistent. Ahri's charm should not have gone through that wall. But seeing as to how this video is 3 years old (and from the pbe to boot) I'm willing to chalk that up to a bug that got fixed.

In general: if the ability has travel time before it damages an opponent, its going to get blocked. You are getting confused by the animation of the abilities vs the mechanic behind the ability. Thats why chogath W and Annie W still hit, they are aoe instant effect cones; despite what the animation looks like. So, if you can give me an example of a live ability that you think should/should not be getting blocked, please respond. That video doesn't really count as, again, its 3 years old and its pbe.
