"New Playstyles"?

I don't understand what new playstyles there are with the new runes. If anything I think there are less playstyles as all I see in my games are nuke or CC. Before we had some bruiser style champs, and tanking. I don't mean to say cc champs are any less tanky, I mean you might actually be able to walk away from a fight tanking. Not just that, but if you look at each season our options to build anything other than damage on champions that aren't cc tanks has decreased.

The damage dealt to champs screen is also sort of a lie, because this patch might make it look like damage in general has gone down. More realistically champions are just dying more quickly, so it takes less damage to kill them through regen and shield effects.

The "new playstyles" consist of ADCs snowballing at 5 minutes and wiping out the enemy botlane over and over.

I think it was more so about options rather than play style. Giving players more options depending on their match ups, team comp, who their against etc and choosing specific runes tailoring towards that, rather than opting for the game runes and masteries every game because they're the best ones.

But in all honestly the system will always be cookie cutter and people will always opt for the best ones.

But I don't honestly feel like I have those options anymore. In the old system I could tailor both my start and endgame experiences.

If I needed early ap, late ad, late crit, early crit, late tank, early pen, attack speed etc... I just took it.

Now I'm like well I need some early tank, but that -10% damage to champs means I won't be able to even try and trade. The tank tree isn't very good for me unless I have a hard cc... ummm, guess I take +5 armor, as if that really does anything.

But don't worry fam, we got you on the damage front. 12% bonus damage after 3 autos, uncapped attack speed, this little comet thingy/a a pet for you. Lets not forget I can change my summoner spells in game... as if that helps me win lane and have a late game effect somehow?

So the options just aren't there like in the old system.

I guess it has more “defined” play styles with the super distinct and impactful rune choices.

That being said, the old rune + mastery system gave way to so many more options for strategy and experimentation from all the options and combinations.

Idk if ya’ll play Pokémon, but think of the old runes and masteries as EVs and hold items.

They changed it so you can’t customize you EV numbers and said “hey here’s some crazy new hold items instead”

But whats the point of having defined playstyles if I only have 2-3 to choose from.

  1. Nuke
  2. CC
  3. Some weird utility for my teammates?

Bruisers don't really exist anymore. Healing combat mages don't exists. Tanks can't take skillshots for their team without getting chunked. The list of things we've lost for playstyles is very large compared to the playstyles we now have available.

I laugh every time I see the "Live forever" under resolve.
