We need a better Death Recap
Chances are, if you've ever opened the Death Recap, you've run into an issue with it. There are two main issues I want to address with the current Death Recap:
- It's incredibly unfriendly to noobs
- It's incredibly unreliable
What's Wrong for Noobs?
Noobs are defined here as anyone that doesn't know everything about the enemy teams champions. I am included in "noobs" from time to time.
The first problem here is the early game death timers. You die, watch for a second to see if a teammate will kill the enemy that killed you, click "Death Recap" and you've respawned. The Death Recap is no longer available to you. You can't see if that guy with a Doran's Shield is doing physical or magic damage to you anymore.
--To help noobs, there needs to be a way to to view the Death Recap after you respawn--
How is it unreliable?
I've seen {{summoner:10}} be used to kill me... I'm telling you, that spell is secretly OP. I've also seen myself get an assist on the death recap (playing as Viktor). The greedy enemy team didn't even give me gold for it!
Often, it's not nessisarily the damage that did you it. It's the slow/silence/root/stun/suppression/damage reduction/heal/speed boost/whatever that caused you not to make your great escape or kill the enemy.
--This section is a little harder to pin down what should change. Some of this is bug related, other parts are usability related.--
What can be done about all this?
Here are a few of my suggestions.
- Put a death recap button above the minimap. A little black button with an icon on it will do. This almost single handedly fixes the noob issue.
- Add graphs to the Death Recap. I'm thinking something along the Pie Graphs used on the new Match History. Red for physical damage delt, Blue for magic damage delt, Gray for true damage delt. If a spell deals mixed damage, show it on both sides so you can compare the magic damage it's dealing to the physical damage it's dealing.
- Show status effects that occurred durring the engage. If the enemy used a potion, show a potion icon next to their portrait. If you got silenced, show a symbol for that in your death recap somewhere.
I'm sure there are more things that could be done to fix and improve the Death Recap, but ultimately, there needs to be a starting place.
Anything I'm missing? Any other suggestions? Let's hash this out a bit.
