Aatrox, new build paths in this meta?
Ok so I saw stonewall do this build in one of his recent vids, and if I remembered correctly he mained Aatrox last season, since Feral Flare was good on him, but doesn't now cause none of the jungle items are great on him and he is countered by like 90% of the other top laners as well.
But the thing is, he rushed Ravenous Hydra first, then a Black Cleaver, followed by straight tank items. I've been building BotRK on him, like everyone does, with maybe a Tiamat first and turn it into Ravenous if I'm doing fine or Titanic if I'm struggling. The problem was always just imploding before being able to sustain and AA all that much due to his pathetically low base defensive stats, then ofc his scaling has always bee horrendous especially in this meta.
However, after trying out these items, with no attack speed aside from attack speed quints (I used my ADC runes just out of fear of not having enough aa speed :P), so like 15% only, I found him FAAAAAAAAAAR more effective! Like with his passive stacked so he gets aa speed as well as his ult steroid, he gets enough to sustain, but he also gets tankier faster with the phage passive to help him stick to targets and the armor shred for scaling, his laning I found is far stronger with more AD over any attack speed (as well as maxing W over maxing E, with the Tiamat you don't really need your E for clearing, as for poke, well if you're farming fine you can trade very well with the W damage then sustain up even better with the healing side), and jumping back lines with this item set and more AD instead of attack speed is also far more successful! If you get blown up (which is harder since you'll be slightly tankier earlier), you still typically get off your burst and cc rotation.
Idk, I was surprised at how much more effective this build path was, has this been a thing for a while that I just never saw or realized? Or do people simply not play Aatrox often enough to have found out about this?
But yeah, if you play Aatrox, try this build path out for yourself, no attack speed, RH first and BC second then tank items. Seems far stronger to me, but I might just be getting lucky with lane opponents. Also yes, I only pick Aatrox if I already see the enemy top laner and know they won't just poke or harass me off the minion wave none stop, but building attack speed and maxing E won't really save him from that kind of match up either :P
