The Problem With Talon.
You all know how everybody in the world that even occasionally plays mid lane complains about Talon right? I've actually even heard challenger players complaining about it. But nobody really addresses the problem(s) with Talon in the first place other than saying "He's OP NERF HIM" and that's always just dismissed as a low elo player being toxic because they lost to something.
1: His AoE Without fail, a Talon's first purchase is Tiamat nearly every game. This makes every auto plus its active an AoE. This, combined with his rake ability, does too much AoE. For example, do you remember the mage update where one of the main reasons they gutted Mana Regen on champions and items like Doran's ring (Especially for Lux and Syndra) was because they had too high of a wave clear at a low level by using all of their abilities with no consequences. Talon is one of the champions that can do that with ONE ability plus Tiamat. Not only that, but the damage on his Rake in general is way too high, since if you're even remotely close range, both casts are undodgeable, especially when he uses his leap first. Not only that, but he is an assassin. Rarely any assassins have that much AoE damage, or that wide of range, especially his ultimate.
2: His low level burst.
Sure, I expect an assassin with a few kills under his belt to kill me when I'm by myself or even during a teamfight. But his spike in damage at level 6 becomes so big that it isn't uncommon at all for him to dive you when you are full hp level 6. Tiamat or not, if you aren't in the very back of your tower, he can kill you quickly and jump over the walls next to the turret to escape or even walk out. The only exception to this is if you are playing a champion with a long cc ability like Lux
or Morgana
.
3: His chase/getaway potential This one is a bit over-complained about in my opinion. But it's just a little too powerful, especially in jungle skirmishes, and it certainly is frustrating to never actually catch a Talon unless you chain CC him perfectly.
But what's the point of this post? Why just post generally agreeable things? Because I want to offer a solution to all of this. No, it isn't electrocute. Electrocute's damage is fine in my opinion.
1: Nerf his lower level base dmg on his Rake ability, but keep it the same at max rank. This will help problems 1 and 2.
2: Give Talon a certain amount of wall hops he can do in a certain amount of time, rather than a cooldown per wall.
3: REMOVE DUSKBLADE. It is literally Deathfire Grasp for assassins. This would solve not only Talon issues, but assassin issues in general. Additionally, it would make Youmuu's Ghostblade and Black cleaver (maybe even Ravenous Hydra) more viable as first items. As much as I am not a fan of removing items permanently (RIP
), This is just as necessary if not more necessary than it was to remove DFG.
