Why shouldnt ADCs be allowed to use lethality?

Now, before you instantly downvote this post because of the title, let me explain.

Lethality is basically the evolution of Armor penetration, a thing marksmen need to deal damage to something that built armor to negate their damage. Aitem 3035 is often not enough to deal meaningful damage to a Zac orMaokai , and flat penetration is needed to deal extra damage against these and squishies. The boards have been saying that ranged champions should not benefit from lethality the same way melee champions do, just because there are giant offenders that abuse lethality, such as Quinn andMissFortune , right?

But the real reason why lethality is being built is not really the lethality itself, its the items. item 3814 and item 3142 are just so damn good that you need to build these items as a marksmen to survive the game. The problem? These items have way too much practical use, for any class and any AD champion.

The champions are most often not the problem (except in the top two cases), its the items. I myself would actually like to see a reversal on the lethality change, however i wouldn't want to either reduce the effectiveness on ranged champions or forbid them from using it completely.

Just stop circlejerking against ADCs please

I really don't think any reasonable person with a sense of balance would say adcs cant use lethality. Lethality was created for assassins, but also as a basic alternative for a crit builds in the adc class. The only problem is that adcs, especially after their s6 class update, were balanced around the crit build. Miss Fortune, Jhin, and Draven are all adcs that excel when any form of armour penetration gets too strong, and Riot didn't take those outliers into consideration when they decided to overtune lethality to such a degree.

Basically, rebalance the outliers around a pen build as well as adjust pen and then adcs will be fine again

Here's my question, if the adc is doing meaningful damage to someone who built full tank, why should they build tank?

I think the problem with lethality on adcs is that it skews the game towards who can deal the most damage faster. If armor is basically invalidated, then the tanks and fighters might as well build purebred damage so they can potentially kill the adc, instead of not being able to do anything.

As a result, mages get screwed as everyone is able to blow them up, and assassins become both strong and screwed as well, as they can now burst everyone, but with the delayed burst from the assassin update, they often get blown up first.

To keep lethality on ranged champs, you'd need to rebalance all of them around it. Making it melee only is simply an easier way of balancing it, as then you don't need to have a secondary marksmen update
