Will leagues Meta ever return to a slower state?

Honest question here, will league ever go back to the sort of gameplay we witnessed in season 1-4? Not going to state those seasons didn't have their fair share of issues (as does every season), but those seasons did promote a different sense of gameplay. I also don't fully believe that Riot intends to keep LCS always fast-paced as the content may become stale for their viewer base.

If riot devs ever intended for league to return the way it was, they wouldn't be gutting tahm kench who`s devour was perfectly okay and even considered widely by pros to be completely useless in a less fast paced setting. (season 6-7, tahm was weak in competitive)

His very existence was to counter what is going on right now, new devs are fighting older design philosophy and slowly transforming league into their brand new imagie for competitive play.

If they revert the game to season 5 then yes but Riot has never reverted anything important so thats a no

I hope the meta changes eventually. I feel like I've been told the majority of champions I like to play are not allowed to be as good for almost two years now.

I'm exaggerating obviously, but it feels that way. I like to play tanky champions and bruisers in the jungle yet defense means nothing right now.

Nah, slower metas make for unpopular ESports. Frankly, all they need to do is tone down the damage and the game'll be fine. Tank supports are super weak right now outside Leona and Nautilus.

There are 2 things at play here.

1, Everyone hates burst and snowball meta.

2, Most people seem to prefer game lengths to be over 30 minutes but under 40.

These two things would be seemingly contradictory, but they really aren't.

You don't need burst meta to keep games short, you don't need to adjust gold values, you don't even need to alter towers etc. You just need to buff XP, have scaling defensive runes kick in about 90 to 120 seconds faster than scaling damage runes. Most scaling runes nowadays either kick in at around minute 10 or level 10.

This would allow the laning phase to be an actual laning phase and not to be over by level 7.

By putting power into levels and not gold it would reduce early snowballs and make fairer fights.

!!!But there's a problem. The same problem games like SC2 have. It makes a relatively boring to watch and comment early game in professional games where pros can easily shut down cheese and stupid gimmicks, so nobody actually tries it and people play by the book safe when there's money on the line.!!!

There would still be room in SoloQ for cheese, gimmick tactics, streamer shenanigans, but if you make laning phase relatively safe pros will not do risky garbage in tournaments, which means casters have nothing to scream about, and actually have to keep the viewers engaged by other means.

I think, that game should be faster. Increase respawn times, kill-gold, and plates gold.

New plates gold: 500

New kill gold: 600

Respawn timer increased to be 6 minutes on lvl18. On lvl6 you already stay dead for 2 minutes.

End the game faster than EVER! /s

I think actual game time/speed is good, but teamfights are wayyy too fast.

ZaFishbone10/1/2019, 1:14:04 PM4 votes

No.

Illabethe10/2/2019, 7:46:09 AM3 votes

No.

  1. Players' computers are faster and have better tasking
  2. Players are better.
  3. Smart cast and other features have changed the handling from confirm clicks to auto cast 2-3 skill sequences with no pauses.
  4. Any attempts by Riot to "balance" are done with the explicit understanding that player skill caps/preferences have improved and as such tend to "catch up bad champs rather than slow down exceeding champs.

It's not just Riot unbalancing the game. It's players like you not adapting and getting abused as a result.

Blame esports, pros would drag the games out to 65 mins every match.

LordGeovanni10/2/2019, 8:49:12 PM2 votes

Promised slowing down in season 5.... season 8 going on season 9

Lauchmelder10/2/2019, 10:07:57 PM2 votes

At this point I'd take the piece of shit meta that was the Ardent meta over what we have now.

"Be careful what you wish for." -> I know exactly what I wish for. I wish for a meta where looking funny at an enemy doesn't result in them exploding.

Will data show that a slow league will make more money?

Oburrawatabonobo10/2/2019, 12:32:42 AM1 votes

Nope they have set a focus on the chinese market so no

Aatrox Eichmann10/2/2019, 3:27:38 AM1 votes

when conqueror is removed maybe. something that used to slow down the game was the prominent tank picks in the meta. tanks were viable because once upon a time you can outscale bruisers completely by building tanky and just ignoring them, slowing down the game and forcing deathball teamfights. conqueror is like riot's safety net to that, it means that no matter how tanky you are, theres a limit and timer to show that you cant just not take damage anymore. AP item powercreep affected the game so much that tanky mages like pre-mini rework ryze's shield rush and champions like vladimir take priority over actual tanks with the exception of sion since they can bully lane, get tanky and still 1-shot people. besides that everything just gives too much gold. tower plating, shutdowns etc. that speeds up the game by having a few players snowball the whole game and sometimes that leads to having one giant carry winning the game because they are equally as fed as your carry but wins off having a champion better suited to the situation. that being said the fast and flashy meta now has been cultivated by riot for about 3-4 months now, most evidently in the botlane(hook city), since riot wants flashy picks and big plays on screen for their worlds highlight reel exposure.

everything is possible at this point. Might take some time. It all depends on pro scene and esports and what people find more entertaining for the game

mack911210/2/2019, 7:34:06 AM1 votes

What exactly is different ?

The same game fantasy exists with the same mechanics. Champions have the same outcome with the correct input.

The only difference is a lot more people are very good at this game so game outcomes are decided quicker. You can’t balance that fact out.

Rαy10/2/2019, 6:21:04 PM1 votes

I really hope so. I enjoyed this game so much seasons 3-7.

Getting blown up immediately in three-second teamfights just isn't satisfying.

Support Position10/2/2019, 9:05:21 PM1 votes

Probably not, and the majority of the reasons are because of assassins. (Majority. Not fully.) and Minions giving too much gold now.

Evelynn Fizz Leblanc Katarina Kassadin LeeSin Nocturne Pyke Qiyana Rengar Zed Talon Khazix

item 3147 item 3142 Gives too much armour pen, and needs to be reverted back to the old ARP being 10 armour off. Not practically 180 (what it feels like.)

Along with item 3135 item 3036 item 3033 No longer having % anything. Flat ratios only. (For instance Void staff. 40%, nah nah nah. 40 MR period. If you have item 3111 item 3065 + say 50 mr from base champion and runes. = 130 / 40% = 52 so realistically you have 78 MR. We need about 5 more mr and armour items that GO AGAINST pen, if not pen being completely gutted.)
